AstroDogs is a very good spaceship game. The movement feels right, the controls are responsive, and the pacing is excellent. Oh wait... This is Broken Reality 2000. Indeed, a very good sequel. From the very beginning, everything runs smoothly, the pacing feels well balanced, the music is spectacular, and the whole experience captures that surreal vaporwave internet dream atmosphere that made the original so memorable. It runs perfectly on Linux using Proton 11. I use Arch btw.

Absolutely fantastic experience. I've been waiting for this ever since I played the first one over 6 years ago!! I did get softlocked at one point and had to restart on a new save file, but honestly it didn't even really hinder my experience, and I'm almost certain the problem has been patched out, so I adored it. The music is stellar, and the improvements on the first game are really nice.
I had a good time with this, I'm not sure why reviews seem so mixed on it. Sort of the "frutiger aero" to the first game's "vaporwave". I replayed the original game when this was due to come out just to refresh myself on it, and I'm glad I did as this sequel does like to make little references back to the original (and it's not like the original is an overly long game). If you haven't played since 2018 I'd recommend running through it first. I see a lot of reviews complaining that the Liker being a 3D model now instead of the 2D pixel from Broken Reality, while it is mildly cursed it's definitely intentional. They're clearly going for that bubble-y 3D style of the 2000s. It fits the aesthetic here, whereas the old 2D pixel Liker would feel out of place. It's all about being rounded and smooth in the 2000s. It has little 'quests' but the first game did too, the only difference is now you get a little journal to somewhat help keep track of them. Definitely the same core collectathon style gameplay as the first. I also got the 'true ending' the first time around so I haven't seen the other one people are complaining about. I think it's just cause I collected all the 'shards' (this game's equivalent to Triangles from the last game) before pushing into the final level. If you enjoyed the first game, and the goofy 'frutiger aero' aesthetic shown in the trailers appeals to you, I see no reason you wouldn't enjoy this one as much as I did. Not sure why so many reviewers seem disappointed, this turned out more or less what I expected it to be. Also wanted to mention this game has some bangers in the new soundtrack, maybe not on the level of the first game, but still.
Dynamic Media Triad has exploration sickos eating good. The first Broken Reality was great, but Broken Reality 2000 might be even better. Definitely not for everyone, but if you like solving environmental puzzles, collectathons, and adventure gameplay, you should check this out... provided you're willing to deal with a bit of jank.
Coming from having played Broken Reality a while ago and replaying it recently to get back in the world I can recognize some of the problems people have with insertions of modern topics that plague the web (NFTs/Crypto currencies/AI etc.) but I think that's mostly an issue of the game being in development for a long time and the scope of "the modern web" changing drastically. Do remember you are in some (in-game) company's representation of the web and they love jumping on the latest thing if it turns them a profit. Although there is a bit of a mismatch between the content and the "2000" in the title. I can understand many people were expecting more of the same rather than being catapulted into the web of the 20s Overall the aesthetic and gameplay is still great, I have not really uncountered any bugs apart from getting stuck before the unstuck button was added. Would be nice to be able to progress more without the hoverboard, kinda seems like a cop out for adding interesting movement paths. Some of the puzzles can take a second to figure out, shouldn't be much of an issue if you're used to puzzle elements in games. A lot of information can be gathered from talking to the NPCs and looking at your surroundings. Only thing I personally really disliked is the directional attacks to the katana, I don't feel like they add a lot apart from some frustation when you can't quite hit it. The change to the camera is fine imo, makes you take more time to take in your surroundings.
i'm having an okay time with this (seeing dr. simi sent me into space), but there are some accessibility/quality of life options that i think really need to be implemented, including things that are still a problem from the first game: 1. toggle to use tools instead of hold/repeated clicks: the liker and hoverboard require either repeated clicks or holding the mouse button down to use, which can and does cause real hand strain for many people including myself. 2. scroll wheel to change tools: Q/E and number keys are okay, but it would feel a lot better if we could also use the scroll wheel to change our items. 3. shorten transition in and out of dialogue: especially when you exit dialogue, the camera slowly zooms back to the player's perspective, then there is a surprisingly long pause before you have control over your character again. depending on the character and camera angle, the delay between finishing a conversation and moving around again can last up to 3-4 seconds, which adds up and gets really annoying really quickly. it got to the point that i found myself dreading having to talk to anybody (which is like half of what you do in this game) because it is such a consistent momentum-destroyer. make that zoom back faster, and remove the pause before you can move again! 4. polished controls: for example, using the bow and arrow is pretty irritating because you have to wait for any given animation to finish to toggle the next one. you have to hold the right mouse button down to aim, but if you click the left mouse button to draw before the aiming animation is done, it won't register your click and you have to do it again. the "draw" trigger should detect whether the left mouse button is already being held down, and start the aim immediately instead of ignoring the input. 5. dialogue controls: let us press space bar or E or whatever to progress dialogue instead of having to manually move the mouse cursor to the dialog window every time. 6. the patch to add increased movement speed in the nexus was a great quality of life addition, considering how much empty space that map has and how often you have to navigate it to get anywhere. i could ask for a sprint button in the other maps to let us travel at nexus-speeds whenever we want, but doing so might make the very fast movement provided to us by the hoverboard feel less impactful. 7. there should maybe be some kind of exclamation point, speech bubble, or other kind of aesthetically-appropriate marker over the heads of all NPCs who have quests for you, like the bubbles present over the robots on the second floor of E-world who want you to get them food. for example: i completely missed the NPC who gives you the city pass to grifton, because she's just standing in an empty space not really near anything, and blended into the non-interactible npcs roaming around. when i went to look up how to get the city pass, i found posts by many many other people who had the same issue.

Beautiful 2000s internet aesthetic!
