I wish I could say I was impressed, but I wasn't. I finished in less than 2 hours. The plot wasn't that well written or great. Secret societies, ancient magic, saving the world from evil, blah blah blah, the usual. But nothing made the game stand out as unique among similar point-and-click games. It's a decent, casual point-and-click, but I wouldn't recommend buying it for full price (which is currently $10). Then again, I can be miserly.
“The Legend of Crystal Valley” gehört m.E. in die Hitliste der schlechtesten Point & Click Adventures aller Zeiten. The Legend of Crystal Valley”.
Hotel Collector's Edition (Brightstone Mysteries: Paranormal Hotel)
Adventure from 2010. Bridget Brightstone, a police officer from New York City, travels to France to investigate the case of a missing necklace in a haunted castle that has been converted into a hotel. But her investigation brings to light much more than she would have thought! When the victim of a robbery suddenly dies, she must hunt down the murderer using clues left by ghosts. Search the dangerous Shadowlands and stop the evil that is trying to free itself from its grave with the help of a powerful artifact! (Publisher) It is a detective adventure as point and click with some mini puzzles. These are not off the shelf and not that difficult either. The graphics are still pretty good even today, I play on a 4K 55" monitor. The videos are worse, though, no wonder the game is from 2010. The voice acting is OK, especially not by an AI. There are three versions: American, International and German. The German version that I played doesn't give out badges, but is well spoken, which adds value to the game. You have almost perfect help available at all times. The game itself is kept fairly simple, so it's a good game for beginners. Especially since it's also very well made from a technical point of view. The script, on the other hand, is very much rooted in the mystical and probably won't be to everyone's taste. Everything that I consider to be good and important in a game like this is there and well implemented. However, this could also be interpreted negatively for those who like it difficult and want to do everything without help. You'll be well entertained for about 4 hours. So I'm giving it a positive rating. So, recommended for friends of the genre. FYI, so players of older versions don't get confused. kspes [Developer] To provide some context, the remastered casual version is basically a completely different version of the game, built in a different engine, hence the differences.
Hotel Collector's Edition (Brightstone Mysteries: Paranormal Hotel)
Hotel - Collector's Edition (Cateia Games, 2010) While playing I planned on writing a recommendation for this game. Now that I've finished it I realise the thing as a whole has little merit and, aside from recommending it to long time adventure gamers, I honestly can't give a thumbsup to what I've experienced here. Why recommend it to long time adventure gamers? Because we'll play anything that is an adventure game, and so if you are one and you havn't yet played Hotel you may as well go and get it over with. The odd thing is that I really love the core concept: you have a fancy hotel somewhere in France, an accident has resulted in a young woman's death. You're a police inspector and your boss believes it was murder. Will you find out the truth? And what's with the weird occult symbology all over the place? And that's how the game starts; for about an hour you feel like you're building up to something interesting, then it all quickly falls apart as the developers, who clearly had no idea where to take the story, slather on layer upon layer of hoodoo and fantasy that ill-suits the tone of what has gone before. In other words, they quickly ruin a good murder mystery with what can only be called nonsense, in the process grasping at various mainstream clichés as regards the supernatural. Note, the game is short. I logged a bit more than two hours, and that includes exploring the collector's edition extras. Regarding those extras, they aren't worth buying the game for, for the simple reason that Hotel takes up less than 300 megabytes, making for an extremely compressed package. That means everything that counts as art assets including audio is incredibly downgraded to fit the meagre file size. This, I presume, was done to make the game better fit portable devices (there's also a version for smartphones and tablets). On PC however, you end up suffering because of the low quality assets being run through much better speakers and a much bigger screen than you're likely to find with your mobile device. In terms of puzzles Hotel is fairly easy. There isn't much to interact with. And oddly enough this creates a nice flow through the game, and I became quite engaged early on, despite the game not really taxing my grey matter. Of course, then the hoodoo starts. SCORES Graphics: 35% Extremely compressed pre-rendered 2D backgrounds. 3D models lack detail. Character designs are fairly generic and lack outstanding features. The game starts off with one of the worst pre-rendered FMV sequences I've ever seen. I mean, straight out of 1992. It really is that terrible. Sound: 45% Not much in terms of atmospheric sound effects. Only one particularly catchy tune. No voice acting outside of the horrible introduction and ending FMV sequences. Execution: 35% As an adventure game, the mediocre first half manages to improve on Cateia's Kaptain Brawe; the second half throws all that away. Addictiveness: 40% First hour, I wanted to see what happens next. Second hour, I wanted to get it over with. Overall: 34% Like I wrote before, if you're an adventure gamer you either already own this game or you were planning on buying it anyway. (Which is how I ended up with it.) For others, forget about it, there are much better adventure games out there if you're only interested in dipping your toes in the adventure game pool. Buy the likes of Culpa Innata, Perry Rhodan (sadly not on Steam), Jack Keane, Lost Horizon, etc. instead. Heck, now I feel like making a list of the best adventure games.
If it's on sale for $1.99, then buy this game. I love a good point and click game because I'm all about a great narrative and interactive story. While Hotel may have soothed my craving for a good PNC, by no means did it satisfy me. Pros: 1.) Graphics are pretty decent (which you love to see in a good PNC). 2.) There are a few unexpected twists. Cons: 1.) The puzzles are so easy that you don't have to think very much, or at all, to pass them. 2.) The story goes from "weird" to "wtf" really quickly. Plus, the character development is very weak and predictable. 3.) This game is SO short. I completed this game is 2 hours and that's with me taking my time. Look at the other reviews, no one takes very long to complete this game. As a rule, I think that PNC games tend to only be worth as much as: (1.) Hours put into the game, (2.) Strength of the storyline. Since this game's story really falls flat, I'd recommend not spending more than $2.00 to play this game because it will not take you more than 2 hours to finish it.
This is a very old Point&Click game so I'm not going to mention how outdated the graphics are even in the remastered version. Hotel game starts off with a young lady, a detective who is on vacation enjoying the beach, but her boss has a plan for her. Brightstone received a phone call which made her cut off her vacation and fly over to a 'hotel' where a robbery happened and the owner of the missing necklace fell into a coma. You'd think this would be a typical investigation but things started to reveal slowly to our young detective, things related to ancient Egypt. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3029194408 I'm not interested in ancient Egypt stories, It was actually a turn-off to me along with all the cult talk but I had to finish the game which thankfully was quite short. I didn't enjoy most of the conversations, it felt.. forced or maybe badly translated, but still, some people might enjoy it in a different language. The puzzles were extremely easy, and one of them didn't show up properly on my screen. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3029194916 I might of have enjoyed it more if it was fully voiced, the remaster seems to be only removing the main character off the screen, there is no upgrade of the character's portraits. There is lots of backtracking and no map or fast traveling although there are only two areas in the whole game but it felt like a chore. The note she carries shows what tasks you must do. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3029194522 Pros: +OK but easy puzzles. +Steam achievements. Cons: -Outdated graphics even in the remastered version. -Midicore story with twists. -Backtracking with no map. -Unlikable characters with no backgrounds or character development. -Looping short soundtracks -Voiceovers only in the first and last cutscenes. I'm sorry but I can't recommend this game, there are many other better Point&Click games that you'll enjoy more than this. More of a mixed rating than an outright downvote. This looks like a hidden-object puzzle adventure game, but it's not. There were no hidden object scenes. The closest was finding 9 parchments in a bookcase and items barely visible in the background. Puzzles were on the easy side but I liked them well enough. Originally, this was known as just "Hotel" and was a standard point-and-click adventure with a visible character you could move around. This was eventually changed to a more casual and faster first-person adventure. Both versions were included. This 3d-rendered game looked like it was made in the 90s for the PS2 instead of 2010 for the PC. I did like the 3d environments of the hotel, not so much outside of it. The story became quite silly, in a bad way, in the last third of the game. The dialogues were kind of awkward but were not orthographically incorrect. I liked that you could combine items in the inventory which is not a given in this type of game. I liked the list of tasks and integrated hint system. I finished in around 2 hours on the intermediate difficulty. If you like adventures and can get this very cheap, there are worse alternatives. Much better ones too.
Damn, I did not expect all that paranormal crap. The game is not what it looks like it wold be. I still hated the plot; it goes totally crazy like a total 180 of a normal detective game. The game wasn't entirely that bad imo, but still insane. Maybe worth if you're a hardcore fan of clickers and solvers.
If you like PNC adventure games, you might like this. It is mostly in 2.5D. The puzzles were just right: hard enough to be amusing but easy enough to avoid frustrating you. The story is a little slow at first, but gets interesting about half-way through. There are bits of voice acting at the beginning and at the end, but for most of the game you get the dialog by reading text. I got it on sale for about $3 and I feel I got my money's worth in entertainment.
it sucks and thats all i have to say
