This deserves many more downloads. Want to play Breakout but with a little more depth? This is it. The classes are all interesting and unique providing different play-styles which make different fights more or less difficult. Don't hesitate, just buy it.
The Devs managed to rpg Arkanoid and I'm all for it. Did you grow up in the 90's and appreciate pong and Arkanoid, do you like power options and classes, if that is the case you will like this game.
Brick breaking goodness.
Brick Odyssey combine 'brickbreaking skills' and 'roguelike build' making me feeling this wellknown combo of frustration/addiction when I play. Your Hero attack is triggered by your bricks destruction skill, but you also have to dodge ennemies bolts, forcing you to keep a constant focus on everything. Your gamestyle will be defined by your 'Character' spells AND by your 'build' composed by artefacts and bricks that you will chose and collect over your in-game progression. For my part I have experimented few differents builds, really changing the gameplay from an 'ultra quick aggressive chainburst' to a 'tactical and defensive healing/poisoning' strategy. A very good surprise !
I love this game. One part is due to nostalgia for breakout/arkanoid, but Brick Odyssey shines because of the additional game mechanics built on top. There are 4-5 characters to choose from, and each character has unique abilities/attacks. Then there are the bricks, there are a wide range of brick upgrades - fury, thorn, bombs, rockets (my favorite) and more - to allow you to customize your build for your character. And finally there are the relics that give you different overall abilities. Once you beat the game, you unlock storm levels, which add an extra level of difficulty to the game. And that's not to say this game is easy, it isn't, but it's fun, challenging, charming, and a great overall game.
runs are too short, only complaint
Video Review: https://youtu.be/PZ2Q7a3JOo4 Short version: I highly recommend it. Great use of roguelike elements that make this block breaker one that really stands out from its peers. I really liked Brick Odyssey. Block-Breaking games are a genre that rarely see something innovative and new, and I think the introduction to roguelike elements is a fantastic addition that makes this stand out. I played with the new visual update, and while I did enjoy the original art the new artwork is really an excellent upgrade. Most of my focus was spent on the playable area, but it was cool to look to the top of the screen to see the various enemies walking towards their usually certain death. Gameplay is about what you'd expect. You are a paddle. You hit a ball. You break blocks. That's the primary loop. At the end of each level you have the option of buying block types, healing, etc. These add in an extra layer of strategy to the game with shields, poison, explosives, rockets, and a variety of other blocks that will unlock as you go. Damaging blocks = damaging enemies. You can also recall your ball to the paddle. I never had an issue where I went long without hitting a block, which was great. It's basically non-stop action without too much thought required. The roguelike nature is in the way you choose your levels, the blocks you may have, and relics you pick up. These elements really make the game feel unique each run. Each run typically lasted me about 30 minutes, but I could always quit and continue where I left off if I needed to. My only complaint in the game is how you unlock the additional characters. I wish they'd be unlockable through earning a certain amount of gold, or reaching a certain level/stage - but instead they are locked behind specific requirements that aren't necessarily easy to reach. I get that might be the point, but I do wish it was a bit different. I played as the Paladin and Ranger, but certainly preferred the paladin more.
Nice little game! Worth the price in every way.
Pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a roguelike breakout game. Which isn't a bad thing! I don't see any other breakout roguelikes out there, and this one does a pretty swell job.
