Enjoy the game!
maybe one day I'll finish it, not the best game ever but I have to credit someone making a free product with this concept. Long live old /b/.
BoxxyQuest has a lot of creativity and effort put into it. Must have taken forever. The story is nice but the gameplay is alright at best, frustrating at worst. I beat the game just to see if I could, but there were so many times that I wanted to quit because it felt like I was being punished for playing; punished for getting as far as I could, and the reward for getting past the platforming was more platforming, and getting past the irritating bosses were more irritating bosses. Don't get me wrong, there were some fun things here and there but the irritation I felt lasted longer than the joy. The platforming was hands down the worst part. You jump with the shift key. You get stuck because the enemies follow you and do not reset. There was a timed part near the platforming segment that needed absolute perfection from the player to get past (Same with the Deep Web Chase segment). The final boss had a upwards-scrolling platforming segment that would repeatedly kill you when you respawn because the checkpoint was put too close to the bottom of the screen. Clearing all of this was required to progress. Constantly I had to question if this was even play tested. Constantly I wondered if anyone outside of the devs actually played this. I got roped in by the TV-Tropes page. "Wow," I thought "this game has such dedicated fans writing a lengthy page for BoxxyQuest. Must be a good game!" Boy was I wrong.
Before I played BoxxyQuest: The Gathering Storm, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
So I don't know what to say about this game so I'll just say this. The story is great. If you want to try it, go ahead and if you feel like the game is getting frustrating, it gets worse at an exponential level. I probably repeated 20 hours just trying to face the same boss or repeating a lot of content due to dying that one time (unskippable dialogue). Also, if you suck at platforming, don't play the game. You won't make it. And dodging those green bullets in the trailer video is harder than it looks. Also, if you plan on doing Alwaysland, watch out for RayWilliamJohnson. If you try to delay his turn through stun or AFK, a bug will happen with his battle line or something like that and you'll have to start the game over again. And Deep Web is hard when you have to escape that giant chest. You need near perfect skills to run away from it. Luckily, that is optional. It has little effect to the ending and doesn't cause a bad ending. I'm recommending it cause I liked it but it's tough.
This has to be the greatest RPGMaker game ever created, right? It's BoxxyQuest. There's no reason to say any more than that.
Aktris ve efsanevi kraliçe Catie "Boxxy" Wayne'in yardımıyla, geçmişin internetine destansı ve hiciv dolu bir geri dönüş.
RPG Maker strikes again! "BoxxyQuest: The Gathering Storm" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This RPG Maker asset flip is, well, pretty typical as once more we have an amateur developer simping hard (but actually got the target of his simping involved apparently) with a backdrop plot that largely seems to have been ripped off from popular anime like Log Horizon. The writing in this one is cringey to the point it's weaponized cringe. The gameplay is of course terrible, even the best developer in the world could only make garbage with RPG Maker because RPG Maker is garbage, and when you combine that with people who probably should not be in the business of developing games, things get real bad, and real cringe, real fast. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher-quality alternatives on Steam.
it sucks
