About

Do you miss running your finger along the spines of all your game boxes, deciding what you might be in the mood to play? Do you long for instruction manuals, inlays, and that intoxicating plasticky smell when you crack open a new box and bury your nose inside. Ahhh.
BOXROOM is a shrine to all of that; a little space to call your own, and a way to explore and interact with your game library in a more meaningful way.
It's a throwback to the bedrooms and game-spaces of yesteryear - a place for shelves, cabinets and curated displays, for posters, figurines and collectors items.
It's also a game, if you want to call it that; a design/decorator-sim giving you the space to put a stamp on your Steam library and game collection. After setting up your room and preferred shelving arrangement, the game will boot your ACTUAL Steam library onto the shelves - giving you space to arrange, curate and explore your collection as you see fit.
Put your feet up! Sit back and soak in the space.
You can then share your room with a friend (or your mortal enemy I suppose) to show off your collection in all its glory.

Build, design and arrange your game room
Populate your shelves with your actual game library, direct from Steam
Search the BoxCo Catalogue for your preferred furniture and furnishings
Secret figures, collector's editions and upgrades based on certain games - how many are hiding in your collection?
Pick up, inspect and re-arrange your game-boxes as you see fit
Boot your games....from BOXROOM!
Share your rooms with friends and show off your collection
Integrate your own items and textures with Steam Workshop functionality.

I would love to recommend this game, but I cannot. Alt + Click does not allow you to change box art despite claiming it can. Lacks basic furniture like flatscreen TVs or modern computer monitors. Doors cannot close. You cannot click on computers to play games. There are like four options for couches, all of which are crazy and garish; there are no options for 'dark brown' or any other standard color. You cannot sort games by your favorites or other categories you select. Instead, you are forced to choose 'all games', which can be massive for some users, and you need to sort through hundreds BY HAND in order to find the ones you want, since many are 'buried' under other games. The catalogs have no button to flip to the front. You can't paint the ceiling. There is no ctrl + z if you mess something up. If you have your own 3D models from blender, like action figures, you can't place them throughout your room. There are so many basic features that are lacking from this experience that prevent it from being playable, let alone enjoyable. It's crushing, because I really feel like I could love this game and launch it practically everyday, if it worked as described. But as it is, it's unplayable. And I'm someone who LOVES Early Access - I was the first in line for Minecraft, Don't Starve, Oxygen Not Included, and dozens more. But this game simply doesn't work. I'll be thrilled to edit this review when more is added.
Let me start by saying, even thoguh I put I reccomond this game, I don't reccomend buying this game right now. I like the idea but needs some fixes. Because it is so new, Id wait it out to see what is done to the game. Here is a more in detail review. I love the idea, that was why I bought it, but the execution could be better. Sometimes I can't place items down even when there is clearly space and nothing blocking it, for example, I couldn't place a stapler on my desk even though the only other item on the desk was a monitor that was at the back of the desk. Also, I wish there were some more items or some more items get added. I wanted to do a kitchen to put some of my games that kind of fit and I wanted to have the microwave and coffee pot to be in a room separate from the bedroom but there was nothing that I could really use as a kitchen counter. More items need to be added. Another issue I had was some pictures I put as the game cover or screenshot for a game to put on the posters and picture frames wouldn't load. Half of the times I had an issue with the pictures I would see the picture on the cover but couldn't put the picture on the 2 big posters/frames but I could on the smaller ones and the other times I couldn't even see the picture on the game cover. The last main issue I had was when I would leave, my progress wouldn't save sometimes or my game cases would get kind of shuffled. Now, I will say, one of the times this happened my game crashed (because I am playing on a crappy laptop) but I still had this happen one time when I just left the game and got back on a few hours later. Because of how new this game is (Not even been out for a month as of writing this), I expect most of these issue I have been having will be fixed and more items will be added in the near future, so maybe don't get the game right now and instead wait a little bit to see what gets added and fixed or see if anything is done at all. Overall, concept is a 10/10 idea but execution is like a 4/10. Just needs bug fixes and more items.
So I really would love to recommend this game, i would, i really would. But at the current moment its still too buggy. If i close the game and reload the save, it cant keep the collection on the shelves. It also cant seem to keep box art on the boxes even if I use the tool they developed, Which also seems odd that its not a part of the game settings, but if they haven't figured out a way to incorporate it at least it exists.
Game is jittery, has constant screen tearing and is nauseating to look at; disabling fish eye lens, increasing fov, enabling vsync and limiting fps does not fix it.
Bad integration. Building a room is increadibly tedious. You need a mod for the core functionality. Just a bad experience.
it is a good idea just need a bit more polishing
This is a great idea, hopefully the execution just becomes better and better over time. At this point, it's decent. They cannot automatically download box art. you have to go to the itch page and download their box art wizard to get box art for your games. I've been seeing a lot of negative reviews about that specifically. It's not hard to get the box art. I'd hesitantly recommend it in it's current state, but if the developers can follow their roadmap I'd definitely recommend it.
