Espresso Tycoon

The gameplay is shallow, the writing is bad, the soundtrack is mediocre (except the build track which has terrible parts in it), the graphics aren't special, you're generally dissuaded from making drinks how you want and instead on how to charge as much as possible for a cup of water with 10ml of other things mixed in, the achievements are grindy and dumb, the building/decoration is limited and operates on a grid without free rotation (8 points of rotation, 45 degree angles, no, they don't always line up with the world), I've had one crash where this game just shouldn't have any, it's too expensive and I don't even know what I paid for it because I bought it in a bundle with House Flipper, it tries desperately to have a soul but just doesn't, I've cleared all but the last mission of the campaign (which I will do, it crashed so I decided to write this early) and 8/10ths of it is a tutorial, employee skills are vague and unexplained, the UI isn't very good, what little gameplay you have (buying ingredients and such) can be fully automated so the game is just an idler by the end, which doesn't take that long, especially because you don't need to change your menu for anything but small bonuses and even then your core drink stays the same, and the foam art creation is terribly implemented and difficult to make anything in. It's generally a bad tycoon game and not that great of a cafe game. Also all of the maps are tiny or have parts that I don't like. I genuinely tried to think of one thing this game does well that would justify buying it, but I cannot think of anything, the only reason I've played it as long as I have is because I thought it'd get good once I got far enough in but it just didn't (that and I already played 3 hours by the time I realized it wasn't that good). It's like a 2/10, maybe a 3 if it's on sale and you don't care about anything but the concept of making people drink cups of mayo and ice because that brings you enough joy to warrant a purchase.

It's fun for a while then just becomes repetitive and exhausting

I think this is game looks weird and controls poorly. It's not necessarily that engine is old, it's just poorly done. The first tasks during and after the tutorial made be bored instantly as well. If you like the concept of coffee shop business simulation, look very closely at the screenshots and videos to check if you can deal with the visuals and handling. Me personally, I can't take the creepy looks and bad UI.

Great game, the biggest mistake was using an Ai character/voice tutorial as the forefront for marketing. That kind of water-down your genuine hard work and authenticity behind the gameplay. Now the game just looks cheap.
