Heavily disappointed with the main story. DLC makes it slightly better but the amount of running back and forth required is honestly offputting and a huge waste of time.
Very fun, assuming you have the patience to apply 3000 different community fixes just to get it to run properly. Don't bother with the Enhanced Edition, it has even more issues. Look up the Borderlands SDK mod, which has plugins to fix common bugs, fix the FOV, add quality-of-life features, etc. Also, disable Dynamic Shadows in the graphics settings. The shadows are the single biggest source of performance issues, and the game doesn't even look that bad with them disabled. My GPU usage went from 90%+ to around 45% after disabling shadows. As for the game itself, it's a ton of fun. I love the difficulty level, which is actually quite challenging at times. The loot system is also balanced well. Some games with similar loot systems can get a little overwhelming, but plentiful shops and a decent sized inventory make it reasonable here. Progression feels really natural, and exploring the world is enjoyable. The gunplay feels a little dated, but it's serviceable enough. The animations are a bit stiff, and certain sound effects feel out of place, however the basic act of aiming and shooting feels fine. I also think the world itself feels kind of dead. There are plenty of missions and weapons to keep you busy, but there's a lack of variety in areas like NPCs, enemies, and dialogue. This feels like a solid start to a series, and I'm looking forward to playing more.
i want lilith so bad
Borderlands 1 is old, and it hasn't aged well. Enhanced Edition provides some much needed QoL, but it can also muddy what you might consider the original experience. That being said, this is one of my favourite games of all time. The sheer atmosphere you feel walking around? It is dreary, it is hopeless, and it is dusty, but it is gorgeous. The music, the sounds, the blood, the screams of the psychos, it is just a delight to walk around and cause mayhem. Reading the flavour text of everything you pick up, choosing to walk instead of driving to explore every little shack and hut you see, this is a game that you can really get immersed in. And the loot? Don't even get me started. Play this game slowly, and savour every minute of it, the series hasn't been the same since.

this review is actually for borderlands 3 (who came up with not being able to leave a review for a game you haven't played before??? was it John Steam?? Because you can count your days buddy boy, the snail is coming and I'm bringing salty hell with me!!) anyways, the game was hard to navigate. I couldn't find the border nor the land. and there was supposed to be 3 of them?? anyways my stepson anthony and his vicious HARPE girlfriend (now fiancee) BETHANY came over tonight to watch the family feud. steven James harvey was on and he said something about my review regarding the park bystander 17 from before. I laughed, I cried but most importanly Madam Zeroni needs to be carried up the mountain still
Enhanced edition is better, but Borderlands is Borderlands! Awesomeness!
Borderlands GOTY is still a fun and important looter-shooter, even if it feels a bit dated today. The game’s biggest strength is its intriguing loot system, with tons of crazy weapons to collect and experiment with. The comic-book art style also aged surprisingly well, and the co-op gameplay is where the game is at its best. Also, the atmosphere's unique; it combines sci-fi with post-apocalyptic western elements and even some dark comedy tossed in. The world of Pandora is a harsh, lawless desert planet, with plenty of empty roads, abandoned outposts, rusty metal towns, and endless rocky landscapes that give the world a lonely, dangerous feeling, while enemy camps and random encounters constantly remind you that survival comes first. The characters introduced are memorable (all 4 vault hunters are fun, plus some classic NPCs like Claptrap, Scooter, Mad Moxxi, Dr. Ned, Marcus, and even "T.K." Baha). The soundtrack is fitting and much more minimal than what you get in games nowadays; the game spends a lot of time with ambient sounds: wind, distant creatures, vehicle engines, and radio chatter, and when music does appear, it usually has a subtle industrial, electronic, or western-inspired tone (combat tracks become more energetic and chaotic, but the soundtrack is more focused on supporting the mood rather than grabbing your attention). At the same time, the game can become repetitive because many missions follow the same pattern, and the gunplay is not as smooth as modern shooters. The story is also pretty simple compared to later games in the series, but at least the characters are not cringe-worthy and don't have annoying dialogue. Even with those flaws, Borderlands remains a great experience for players who enjoy grinding for loot, building characters, and playing with friends. It may show its age, but its style, humour, atmosphere, and gameplay loop still make it worth playing.
