I wish I could recommand it, but this is way too rough. Movement and controls are annoyingly retro. No video game character sjould still jump like that. Map is useless. I didn't hate the story and the humor, but it won't save this Would be a decent shareware in the late 90s, but now keep it for a time you have played all you really wanted to play (and need a break with something really basic, or to support the dev who looks like areally sincere (which made thie review hard to write, I'm sure he's a great guy !)
Bone Appetit is a charming little metroidvania, though it has many annoying flaws. I love its endearingly juvenile sense of humor and its consistently silly pixel art, and even its utterly inappropriate garage-band-like musical score. On the other hand, the game's map is beyond useless, lacking even the most basic information, its bosses are just massive damage sponges you have a better chance of killing by trading damage with than learning the patterns, and its equipment system is super clunky, requiring constant weapon switching just for traversal.

Bad controls, almost useless map (it doesn't even show which parts you've visited, the connexions between rooms or where the save points are), zero hints about where to go next, secret rooms hidden behind fake walls that look exactly the same as true walls... Even with Demajen's maps and infinite HP, it was a chore.
This is a fun, focused romp. It's very oldschool gameplay, inspired by the DOS era of PC gaming - the platforming and object collision is intentionally loose and it suits the gameplay well. The humor is crude and juvenile, but I don't think it's excessive or gross, even though it's not my particular cup of tea. Other reviewers have likely said everything there is to say about this, and I don't have anything unique to add, I just wanted to say that it's a fun little game and I enjoyed my few hours with it.
There's nothing I particularly like about Bone Appetit, but many things that annoy me. I enjoy some retro games, but Bone Appetit took all of the parts I'm not into these days -- awkward jumps and stiff movement, the combat is very simple and the early weapons don't feel great to use, etc. Most importantly, save points seem to be few and far between, and you'll run into enemies that can one or two shot you as you explore, leading to a loss of all progress since the previous save point. A lot of people obviously enjoy this form of difficulty, but I'm not one of them. I'd rather have more of a chance to retreat and heal up, or some sort of mechanic to prevent full loss as in games like Hollow Knight. Add to this sounds effects that I found grating and writing that really wasn't landing for me, and it's time for me to move on. Edit: In response to the dev's comment, I've revised my comment on what I didn't like about my experience with the weapons in the game. I'm not sure if I'd find the later weapons interesting or not, but I don't want to unfairly critique the game. I revised a couple of other wordings that I felt came across as too absolute as well. I want to inform players that may have similar tastes to myself, not insult someone's hard work. Best wishes and apologies for not being as thoughtful as I could have on the initial wording.
I kept dying
Great game, hilarious, great progression system. got some new abilities and spent 30 minutes exploring. Couldn't find a save spot, died and lost all progress. This is a cardinal sin to me so I can't recommend.
There is no way to rebind controls. I really don't like the default controls, so my enjoyment of the game is majorly hampered.
A decent metroidvania. Fun for the most part, but the most frustrating element is that there isn't a way to map the gamepad controls to a d-pad, which leads to some irritating moments when using an analog stick (yes, I ultimately remapped through the Steam control overlay, but to not have that native in a metroidvania seems to be a strange oversight). The in-game map is beyond useless. I was satisfied with the "vanilla" ending and didn't have any desire to keep playing to 100%. For the price of admission, there are certainly worse ways to spend 5 - 7 hours.
The game feels too cheap. The writing is dumb, the controls are not tight and the enemies are annoying. Disappointing, since the level design looks pretty good.
