For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. This game is very much a chao garden with a few extras added on to make it feel like a game rather than an addition like it was in sonic. The game follows a similar style where you simply feed a chao a fruit and said fruit gives specific buffs. So ideally you want to get a chao to do a specific style of race and then give it fruits that will boost those stats needed for the race. Then race. Now ill start talking about the additions and why they do not work. In order to find a bobo you enter the forest and one will be sitting in the center, you grab it, check its stats, then register it. There is no exploration, no biomes, no caves... Nothing. You just walk in see if there is a bobo, grab and leave. Jet ski, this is something you can do daily which adds something else to do. But in essence all it is, is to travel to a small island, jump on and loot 1/2 boxes, decide if you want them add it to jet ski then move on or leave. It takes less than a minute and is tedious and boring. Eventually you realise you can just buy fruits off the shop and seeds too and that will generally cover all your needs unless your "really" want to find a better fruit. But in reality you can just sleep and give it another fruit asap its not like its a big deal. Races feel unrewarding, finally beating a race you couldn't before is just some cash and a small reward that's it interaction over. Its just a "oh I guess move to next one" feeling. Which now considering you are just sleeping, feeding, buying, racing, repeat. It just all gets a little boring, empty, meaningless. Races being 4 or so a day I see some people saying allow more but to me I think there should be less I think 4 or more days should have no races then you get 2 days of racing because that makes races feel more impactful. You have 4 days to prepare, you dont just keep spamming races for cash, you have to think it through and set up a strategy per say. The game needs things like dungeons that you can clear to train power, fishing to train swimming. Basically anything to get you more involved with the training process and with the bobo rather than just force feed it then move on. If these options existed and you had races less often the loop would feel more unique and fresh. If you add things like fishing, dungeons and other stuff to train they could also give money meaning racing even though only happening twice a weak is now not the only income so spamming races isnt mandatory. Im not sure what breeding is like but the game is kinda slowing me down because I just dont feel too much drive to repeat the same process. I would like to think Ranks are gained through breeding higher trained bobos in order to get a new rank. But I get the feeling its not that deep im sure people further on in the system can tell me otherwise. All in all it feels empty and meaningless. Im sure people who were really in love with the chao garden will be more immune to these flaws or in fact not care about them. But I feel without that nostalgia the game just isnt a game. These are strange creature on a new island but you dont get anything to explore, learn or appreciate the world. You just sleep, eat, race and repeat. I know its a pretty scathing review but the reviews are very bloated right now to one side and people want to see this when deciding on a new game. They have a right to see the reality of the gameplay and not just the emotional attachment to nostalgic game. I'd love to see the creator work on fleshing out the world and adding actual gameplay and rewards. But until then ill sit and wait. This isnt an addition to a game anymore, its a stand alone and deserves more.

As a huge fan of the Chao Gardens, this game has become everything I wished for and more. I can feel the inspiration, but also see and appreciate how the developer goes above and beyond to make this its own game. Bobo Bay has wonderful quality of life improvements, adorable lore, and constant chances for exploration and ways to train and raise the Bobos. If you are someone who likes to be in control and grind to create the optimal critters, you will love this game. If you want to just see cute little critters and name them and have them do cute things you will also love this game. If you liked the Chao Gardens from the past, you will be OBSESSED with this game. Edit: The developer keeps adding new updates and quality of life changes so this game just gets better and better every time I play.
I can't really recommend Bobo Bay as it is. I suffer from a lot of the same issues a lot of the other reviewers have expressed. The gameplay loop gets really samey really fast, and my bobos are coming in dead last in most competitions due to the sheer amount of RNG that goes into the fruit shop and excursions every day. Sure, there's the training school, but one lesson takes most of the money I have and leaves me with barely any to feed my bobos with. The pity stat boosts you get with certain competitions really don't help. It's a cute game and I was really hoping it would tickle the raising sim itch that only the Chao Garden from SA2 was able to scratch, the developer is clearly a fan and wanted to make something like that. But as it is, it's not exactly a good game, either.
I love this game so so much. My only critique is that for someone who hasn't played Chao Gardens (like me) there's a heavy learning curve. Everything is easily learnable through the phone, I just wish some of the tutorials were implemented in the actual gameplay. For example, the brawl games aren't just strength based, it uses *all* of your stats. So maybe if the conversion of what each stat accomplishes in the mode were present when you're looking at it in the stage selection menu, it'd be easier to remember everything. Plus the potential system was a little overwhelming, but not sure what could be done with that lol. Love this game!!
I've been keeping an eye on Bobo Bay for probably over a year. I've played demo v1, and gently kept track of the updates and developer milestones as it progressed. I can say, with my whole chest, that I'm giving it a tentative Positive review, but I won't mince words about what I'm not fond of with the game as well. Positives: I grew up on Chao Garden, and if you're a major fan of that format of game I can recommend taking a peek at this! It definitely has the love for the OG inspiration in it, and you can really feel that in everything about it. Making a whole game out of a side-quest that relied heavily on a main 10+ hour game to pad out was a huge undertaking for the dev, and I really do think they've done amazing work with their concepts! The Bobos are cute (thought also sometimes a bit ugly, though I am deeply picky), and still have quite a bit of that old soft Chao charm. Being able to raise them, dress them, teach them hobbies, and simply sit to watch them on a second monitor is much more soothing than I expected. It's a very feel-good, slow, passive game that I'm hoping to see branch out more and more over time. Negatives: There are quite a few things in the game that seem stilted or strangely added. It feels like the game should still be in Early Access with how empty the world feels. The communication between the main character and NPCs feels odd, and ultimately it is a very Grindy game. That last one may seem antithetical to my claim that the experience is slow and calming, but it's truly a matter of how you choose to play the game overall. I think, overall, that the whole thing would benefit from a few small changes: specifically the addition of more 3D assets in the garden and town to break up the vast emptiness of the areas, the removal of MC dialogue lines in favor of strict CYO Response options, either some more NPCs with less importance than those shown to provide small dialogue lines about their Bobos or hints on certain evolution routes (this would also help remove the need for so many daily letters, as 3 per day in the first week is still strange feeling), or perhaps small dialogue lines for the Bobos that we've seen in the town! I also think it may be cute to receive messages on your cellphone as notifications rather than using letters, but I fear I'm just mildly perturbed by all the letters that are flying out of the mailbox on a daily basis. ULTIMATELY: POSITIVE! Chao Garden fans who really enjoyed the races and karate will love this, and it's such a love letter to it's inspiration as a whole. Thank you, dev, for making such a delightful little game! I hope to see improvement going forward!
As Sega continues to spiral into failure due to recent events at the time of writing this post, one brave indie dev gave us all the project Adventure 2 fans have craved for years on end. countless friends of mine who grew up on Adventure 2 say the same thing: "if they just released a chao garden mobile game, i'd play it." and it fell on deaf ears. until now. Bobo bay is the game we've all been waiting for. no microtransactions, adorable creatures, addictive gameplay loop, and updates that bring this game closer and closer to reliving our childhood. if you didn't grow up on sonic adventure 2, i don't expect you to give a damn about this game. maybe you play it once or twice, call it cute, and move on. but for me? i'm happy to be a father again. my children will throw galaxies. and if you invest in this game, so can yours. (galaxies not included)
For a game inspired by chao garden it's very slow paced and pretty dopamine starved. A good example is stat training can take an incredible amount longer to achieve just to be able to compete at a normal level in events. It can take up to 5x, 10x, or even longer to get to a similar point... that's just silly. Not even one hour in chao, the dopamine is firing, and I feel like I could take on the Finalhazard by chucking my chao at it. One hour in bobo and I'm wondering why my mom and sister have not sent me a letter of disownment.
Everything I could've wanted out of this game, seriously. At first the difficulty curve can be frustrating, but that's because I approached it at first like an rpg where you want to succeed every time off the bat, instead of approaching it more like a roguelike in a way (You're going to lose a bunch, but with each loss you're improving your bobos and your odds). Don't get intimidated or give up. Worst comes to worst, just change your tactics. If you're spreading yourself too thin, try training fewer bobos and giving them more resources, if you find yourself lacking more specialized bobos, then you may have too few and may need to have more bobos so they can specialize in various types of competitions, etc.
It's got the sauce. Racing? Evolving? Yuri? Little Guys doing Kung Fu Battles? Honestly the best entry in this genre in a long while. Truly understanding what fans of the genre want. I cannot recommend this enough. It seems positioned to grow even more into a great game.
Bobo Bay is a delightful life simulation that blends virtual pet care, creature collection, and light town-building into an experience that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. Developed and published by NewFutureKids, the game invites players to raise lovable creatures called Bobos while exploring vibrant islands, discovering rare species, and expanding a growing seaside community. Instead of emphasizing action or complex resource management, the game focuses on creating a relaxing atmosphere where patience, curiosity, and thoughtful care are consistently rewarded. Its cozy design makes it an appealing choice for players who enjoy slower-paced adventures centered on companionship and gradual progression. The game's strongest feature is undoubtedly its extensive creature-raising system. Every Bobo possesses its own appearance, personality, statistics, and behavioral traits, making each companion feel distinct from the last. Players are encouraged to experiment with breeding different Bobos to create new combinations of colors, patterns, body shapes, and inherited characteristics. The sheer number of possible variations gives collecting a satisfying sense of discovery, while the personality system ensures that raising each creature requires slightly different attention and care. Rather than simply accumulating pets, players build meaningful attachments as they watch their Bobos develop over time. Growth is handled through a complete life cycle that gives every creature a clear sense of progression. Bobos evolve through several developmental stages, with their final outcomes influenced by the attention they receive and the statistics they build along the way. Feeding, training, and properly caring for them become important parts of everyday gameplay, making each evolution feel like the result of dedicated effort instead of an automatic milestone. This gradual progression creates a rewarding gameplay loop that encourages long-term investment without ever feeling overly demanding. Competition provides another enjoyable layer without disrupting the game's peaceful tone. Bobos can participate in Daily Trials that test different strengths and abilities, while certain events favor creatures with unique personality types or activity schedules. Beyond these recurring contests, the Saga system offers a much larger objective by challenging players to guide individual Bobos through a series of accomplishments. Completing these longer journeys unlocks additional maps, new species, town upgrades, and valuable rewards that continually expand the overall experience. These progression systems give players meaningful goals while preserving the relaxing nature that defines the game. Exploration complements the creature management mechanics by encouraging players to travel across randomized islands filled with resources, hidden surprises, and unusual Bobos waiting to be discovered. Every expedition offers opportunities to encounter rare variants or legendary creatures, making exploration feel worthwhile throughout the adventure. The inclusion of mysterious Phantom Bobos and special Bobo Stars further adds excitement, ensuring that players always have something new to search for beyond their growing collection. These discoveries naturally feed back into the breeding and progression systems, creating a satisfying cycle of exploration and experimentation. Town development ties everything together by giving players visible evidence of their accomplishments. As more challenges are completed and new Bobos are raised successfully, the once-modest community gradually grows with additional facilities and improvements. This ongoing transformation provides a rewarding sense of achievement because player progress extends beyond individual creatures and positively affects the world itself. Watching the town flourish alongside an expanding collection of Bobos reinforces the feeling that every activity contributes to a larger purpose. Visually, Bobo Bay embraces a colorful and cheerful presentation that perfectly suits its relaxing gameplay. The charming creature designs, expressive animations, and bright environments create a welcoming atmosphere that is easy to enjoy for extended sessions. Combined with calming music and an accessible interface, the game maintains a consistently cozy tone that complements its focus on exploration, collection, and nurturing rather than competition or difficulty. Although players looking for fast-paced gameplay or constant excitement may find its leisurely pacing a bit slow, the deliberate rhythm is one of the game's greatest strengths. Every new creature discovered, every successful evolution, and every improvement made to the town feels meaningful because progress is earned gradually instead of being rushed. The experience rewards dedication, creativity, and careful planning far more than quick reflexes, making it especially appealing to fans of wholesome simulation games. Bobo Bay successfully combines creature collecting, life simulation, exploration, breeding, and community building into an engaging and heartwarming package. NewFutureKids delivers a game filled with personality, variety, and rewarding long-term progression that encourages players to enjoy the journey rather than race toward the finish. Its deep customization systems, lovable creatures, and consistently relaxing atmosphere make it an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys cozy management games with lasting replay value.
