A good start, feels a lot more smooth than the last game in terms of movement and combat. Still feels a bit janky and definitely needs some polish though. I'd recommend the devs to not describe the game as "a complete game featuring all features," because the game is still pretty rough and needs a lot of work. I enjoyed the first game, so I've had fun with my time with this, but you definitely need to like this particular kind of game and be willing to overlook a certain amount of jank to enjoy it. That said, it does have sort of a Vampire the Masqureade: Bloodlines feel with the grunge feeling of Chinatown. Hopefully the devs will continue to update this frequently as they did with the first game and produce a great game for an particular niche that hasn't had a good game in awhile, vampire RPG games.
I wish there was a neutral recommendation button. I'll try to do right by this game and explain why i am refunding and leaving a negative review despite seeing some good in there. First of all, the game has a great concept and to a certain point it executes this concept with some success. It is a vampire dungeon crawler hack 'n' slash loot rpg. There are a lot of different equipments and different qualities of those and it is amazing stacking points by equipping one item that has +X of strenght/charisma/dexterity that allows you to just equip another item that has +X, and so forth. The few npcs i've come to talk to in my short playthrough had a good bit of character in them, it is clear that there is a good story around the journey of your main character that has enough mistery that makes you want to discover more, the game nails down the setting they've made, and i've enjoyed seeing a bit of variety in enemies right from the start, about 3 or 4 some with their own immunities and some interesting traps to spice up your search for loot. Unfortunately that's about all the good i can say about the game, and honestly, if this game wasn't so focused on what it does worst it would be a great buy. The game is of course centered around combat, the hack 'n' slash. While it does have a good variety of skills and i like the stats and dinamic class system, it's the rough and barebone feeling of the actions that is bad. I understand that this is a game made on a strict budget, but every animation feels hugely outdated. It brings you back to the feeling of combat The Elder Scrolls Oblivion had when in 3rd person view. There are no nuances in motion while attacking or taking a hit, just the crude selected few animations while doing so. And that is for the mellee. The casting skills/magic is even worse as you basically just cast a very undetailed projectile, be it a ball of blue light for shock or a ball of yellow light for fire, it just doesnt feel compelling or amazing in 2019. Verdict: If you don't mind paying for a game developed in 2018/2019 with 2006 combat animation dinamics, knowing the game is centered around the combat, Buy the game. If you can get over that the rest is a well satisfying experience. If you can't then don't.
Only an hour in so take what I say with a grain of salt. If you liked Bloodlust 1 you will like Bloodlust 2. Feels like the developer took what he had with BL1 and ran with it. A lot of the original complaints have been addressed, mainly the lack of character customization and graphics. They key to enjoying this game is to get it not expecting a AAA polished game. At its core this game is a dungeon crawler where you fight through dungeons to get loot so you can get deeper into the dungeons. At the moment the game is EA, and there are a few things that could use some polishing. Pros: * Reasonable priced * Great Plot * Good skill system where there are several viable builds * Enthralled minions actually do things for you * Voiced characters * Developer was very active when making BL1, and appears to following the same trend here. Cons * The graphics are what you would expect from a small indie team (nothing high poly. etc) * Can get repetitive if dungeon crawlers are not your thing. Minor Nitpicks which may be resolved as the game goes through EA: * In character creation screen no way to zoom to get a better look at your character and you use a button to rotate instead of just dragging withiyour mouse (as with most other games). EDIT: The character rotate suggestion has been implemented. * The interface requires you to click options. This can be an issue when your quickly trying to interrogate a guard. Suggested fix, allow the player to select options purely using keyboard... maybe disable skills and let them hit a button. * Menu locking, while this does not happen very often, one of my deaths was due to being stuck in a dialog with the merchant. The window would not close and I could not use my attacks or skills. Maybe have esc back you out of any dialog boxes so you can quickly respond. Either that or make the player immune to damage while talking. It is one of those games I go to play for an hour then look down at my watch and wonder where the afternoon went. Why are you still reading this? Its only 15 USD, go buy it.
Great start so far. The way the game was transfered over to the second game was not that bad. I will let you guys know however that if you liked BloodLust 1, it does NOT mean you will like this one. However, I can say that if you like vampire games and or vampire masquerade, then i'm sure you will like this game. Through my playthrough, I have learned a few things that are different than the first BloodLust. First off, controls are slightly better but very DIFFERENT. Instead of using right click for a special power attack, whatever you used your scroll-wheel or 1,2,3,4, etc numbers, then right-click, then you will use that skill. I'm not used to holding a button in order to view my character and I miss my L button for minions. I am not sure as of right now if there is something similar to this. If you want to feed on someone without siring them, you can do so. Just stop the animation before it goes very low. Now for quality and animations. Quality is indeed improved, but only in some areas. In other areas, they are actually worsened. Lighting was decent in BloodLust 1 but to me BloodLust 2's lighting just out right needs work. On my PC, it does not show what they are in the screenshots. Keep in mind, this is me on ultra. The outfit that you first start off with, actually looks like it was made from Paint. The muscle shirt has very noticable fake zig-zags on the shirt and are very pixelated. Face is... just different I guess? I want to say it's slightly worse, but it isn't by much. Then again, you can barely see it. There are some areas in the world were it will look beautiful in a corner and then just bleh in the other. Some small or large irks of mine: - Character at the beginning looks chubby. Not muscles. I miss the BloodLust 1 weight that you had. - Can't zoom in on your character when you're customizing. - He may be a vampire, so I understand if he can jump higher, but it slightly needs to be dimmed down. Just a little. - WRF needs to work on his clan Leader names. [The Giggler? Really?!] I like games that are serious when it comes to Vampires, but once in awhile it's an okay thing to do, but all the leader names have something odd. I think except one. I don't remember. - The Wraith gets on my nerves. If possible, have a switch where you can enable him or not. - I don't like the new skill system when it comes to classes. I hate being restricted on classes like this. Improvements: - Some animations were improved - Voice improvments - Landscape improvements - UI Improvements - Slight swordplay improvement - Strong Interaction improvements - Added Feed punishments - Water improvement Disinprovment: - Chat interaction decline - Lighting poor - Most areas have very poor texture qualities (not all. Some actually MAJORILY improved) - Jumping Animation (Much different than the last one, but to me the first game with the animations actually made sense. Jumping for his prey) - Only one camera type (Should support Legacy mode. Meaning use the original game controls from BloodLust 1) - You can actually see the stuff you equipped. Pros: * Good price * Good skill system where there are several viable builds * Enthralled minions actually do things for you * Voiced characters * Continued story * Can see old characters from the first game Cons * Certain aspects of quality did improve, but the majority did not. * Can get repetitive if dungeon crawlers are not your thing. * Some animations are missing but they are being worked on at least! * I hate to keep saying this, but something is up with the lighting. I may add things to this list as I go on. Friendly help from Chloe to WIlliam: Just thought I might let you in on something. You probably already know this but you are running BloodLust 1 and 2 on a 32-bit .exe. Which means it'll only support up to 4GB of RAM. Perhapes make a 64-bit version with tons better graphics and such for those who can run it? Not sure if that's possible, but just an idea. I also suggest allowing Dx10 for those who want better quality too.
Obviously styled as a spiritual successor to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines/Redemption, this indie title is a solid attempt. Though it is very rough around the edges, it delivers on the experience. I admire the attempts at innovation (classes, skills, etc) it does seem to need a little more quality of life polish ( stuff that isn't as "fun" to do as an indie, but expected in AAA+ titles ). Very promising, very much an example of what's great about indie developers. Hoping this is the second in a LONG LINE of good games!
tl;dr: If you liked the first one, you'll love the second installment. Good indie A-RPG with some obvious budget limitations and some design flaws & bugs. I don't think I can say much about the graphics that you wouldn't get from the videos and screenshots. You won't get AAA graphics, but I find lots of locations in the game, including the randomly generated ones, quite atmospheric. The game's biggest problem is IMO the UI, which is very clunky, as well as some design flaws (e.g. minions attack enemies you are trying to intimidate). There are also a bunch of bugs, from minions spawning into walls to attacks not properly registering, but most of these are relatively small and I didn't have a single crash so far. Other than that, go right ahead. Lots of builds to play around with. Also, you like vampires, right? So...
Good sequel to the first game. It is larger in scope and has more urban scenery and quests. Solid Vampire RPG to pass the time until Vampire the Masquerade 2 comes out. Just don't expect EA or Blizzard here. The graphics aren't going to blow you away. It's not a multimillion dollar budget game. It's just a small indie developer. Its got good atmosphere and dark horror themes throughout a gothic/cyberpunk universe. I have not experienced any of the jank that some of the negative reviews have reported. Considering that most big budget games are glitchy as hell and you are paying a fraction of the price for this game, why complain? The dev is very responsive with updates and takes criticism well.
I bought this game because I thought Vampire the Masquerade was an intelligent game, and I feel as though Bloodlust was inspired by it to a certain extent. For example, they emulated the clunky combat and 2004 era graphics pretty well. The lighting feels like I turned my gamma way down. At the very beginning, it was evident why I wouldn't find myself enjoying this game much. I was told to use my intimidate skill to advance the quest. Any RPG that forces you to learn a specific skill without providing an alternative is not a really good RPG.
If you can stand supreme levels of jank and odd mechanics then sure, give the game a try. But otherwise? Ehhhhhhhhh no. Things are poorly explained, and while the game is insanely ambitious with what its trying to do, it never really sticks the landing on most of its mechanics. Its got voice acting though which surprised the hell outta me.
Most likely a bug - but if the game crashes, your saved games disappear. You have to start over from the beginning. This is not the first time, I believe this is the second time. First time I had only just began playing, which was lucky. Now, I had 20+ hours in and my save disappeared because the game crashed. I really want to finish it, but that might never happen cause I don't want to start all over again. Still, doesn't seem to be a problem for others. So I'll recommend it still. Edit: Flickering screen now instead after gamed crashed. No characters are saving. Making a female character, and the character on the altar is a male. Another issue this game has. Tried to fix it, and it didn't work. Uninstalled, reinstalled. Deleted the entire folder and nothing works. Pity. Wanted to finish it. Seems like others have had similar issues in the past. Making the game absolutely unplayable now. Changing to "not recommend."
