I picked up BB3 as I have a friend who is showing me how to play the tabletop version in a few weeks. I played all but one of my games offline, everything generally good, no bugs. The campaign against the AI is suitable for a beginner. The reason for my review is the mobile game / fortnite-ified predatory gaming practices. I went online because I couldn't find the Lizardmen team. The steam page does not have any DLC (which I expected it to have because the previous titles do). There you are greeted with a 'battle pass' and 'green gems' their premium currency. You can buy the Lizardmen for 750 or 1250 or 1500 (2nd two options are currently less than they normally are). Okay, so how much is 750 green rocks cost? Well that's another problem, you can't just pay for what you want. You can buy gems in 200, 500, 1050 and so on and so on, the more you spend the better value proposition increases as you are buying at a better rate. So I have to buy the 1050 gems one to pay for the 750 team, which makes the team cost 9.99 euros. Which seems a lot, if I want to purchase all teams that's going to add up, especially when comparing to BB2 where the DLC can be purchased to get more teams for less and much more transparent. I stopped playing triple A slop with battle passes and mobile games because of these shady gaming practices years ago, I didn't expect that a Games Workshop product would have taken this approach. Clearly I was wrong. I expect I'll play more games offline as I want to learn the rules for tabletop play, just be warned about online mode.

Get BB2 Legendary Edition instead of this. Sure, that one's based on older ruleset but all the teams are there from the start, there's no hidden in-game purchase (this one uses the Ubisoft model of buying unlock tokens for real money). This one looks a bit better but that's it. The UI, the on-screen information and the overall atmosphere was done better in BB2.

It unfortunately feels like 1 step forward and 3 steps back. Where every cool new feature comes with a drawbacks. It is also unfortunately still buggy as well, with turns randomly ending, blitz blocks being canceled by the dump off skill, balls glitching out and ending up invisible, AI turns freezing up and never ending and leaving the match auto loses it for you.

Honestly, I regret buying. I tried to refund but was just outside the return window... So I'm still trying to find a way to enjoy it going against friends and online. BUT HEED THIS WARNING!!! IF YOU WANT TO SOLELY PLAY AGAINST AI DO ** NOT** BUY THIS GAME. When the game first came out the AI was incredibly stupid. But now they are unbeatable and this is because of the very unrealistic RNG. The Dice rolls are so absolutely loaded and unrealistic. I failed a 99% check 3 times in one game... And the AI LITERALLY was injuring and KOing my entire team within a single turn even when at -3 stacks. No seriously... an ORC team... with only 1 unit that wasnt either prone, KOed, Seriously injured, or dead. And if you say F it and quit, you do auto lose and your stuck looking at it unless you reset campaign. Not to mention you see all the other teams coming out per season, but you gotta pay for them. They are not free and not just unlockable. I'm trying to get what I can out of the game, but seriously, I rarely make review, and this one is infuriating enough to simply plead to everyone DO NOT BUY. ** DO NOT BUY **

The UI in this game is attrocious. Unintuitive, clunky, and very frustrating. I've played older Blood Bowls before, and this is an unbelieveable downgrade UI-wise.

Played 4 or 5 matches of the new Eternal League update (on PC & Geforce Now on Steam Deck) and happy to recommend it (based on that) as a decent solo experience now. It should also be said that the game is 1000 times better than it was when it launched as well, the updates applied over all that time are excellent (changes to the UI etc). The AI still makes some interesting decisions from time to time, however in the games I have played they have occurred a handful of times, and almost always are the AI choosing to take an action with a player when perhaps there was a better placed player that could have achieved the same thing (i.e. didn't need to dodge twice to get where they wanted to be), however perhaps my puny human brain can't comprehend the high level strategies being utilised :D On the other hand the AI is also doing stuff I have never seen it do, for example it did smash a hole in my defence when on the attack, then poured through the hole they made and caged up behind me which was good. They also marked up a loose ball carrier of mine with open players, before blitzing him with another which is nice. But whether the AI is a tough opponent or not, it has been fun and engaging, and that's all I really want. I suppose I should say you start in the "Rookie" leagues, so dunno if the AI get's harder and more competent as you progress? I guess we'll see, but there are no difficulty levels in BB3, so don't expect to just whack it on "very hard" or something. I had an excellent match against Lizards last night, which went to overtime, and I appreciated it was an unusual team list as well, all skinks and a Kroxigor, not a Saurus in sight, which presented it's own headaches. I am enjoying it enough to say that I have now picked up all the teams DLC, so I can play Eternal League with all the factions available. You can play in Offline mode to hearts content however one glaring ommission is that there is no mid match "save & quit" like we had in BB2, so if you're going to play a game, you need to finish it even in single player. The only good thing is like I say the AI is quick so you aren't sat around waiting, but still, the option to save and quit then come back to it would be most appreciated. Anyway, for those of you who already own the game, it is a free update, so no brainer to just go and try it yourself, and if you don't own it and have been thinking about it for some single player BB fun, then.. I'd say now is the time. So there we have it. If they can add that mid game save option, that would round it off nicely, however regardless I think that finally, 2 and a half years after release, BB3 is now a fun solo experience if you're looking for that kind of thing.
