Black Souls is probably one of the most unique RPG Maker games I've ever played. At first glance it looks like another Dark Souls-inspired RPG, but after spending dozens of hours with it, I realized it's so much more than that. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible. Every location feels unsettling, mysterious, and strangely beautiful at the same time. The game constantly makes you wonder what happened to this broken world and why every character seems to be suffering in one way or another. Instead of explaining everything directly, it lets you discover the story yourself through exploration, dialogue, and item descriptions. The combat is simple but surprisingly engaging. It rewards preparation instead of blindly rushing into every fight. Some bosses can completely destroy you if you underestimate them, forcing you to rethink your strategy or improve your equipment. The difficulty feels fair most of the time, and finally defeating a boss after multiple attempts is incredibly satisfying. One of my favorite parts is the cast of characters. Almost everyone you meet has their own tragic story, and many of them are inspired by classic fairy tales and literature. Seeing familiar characters reimagined in such a dark and twisted universe is fascinating. The game constantly surprises you with unexpected encounters and memorable moments. The soundtrack deserves special praise. It perfectly complements every area, making exploration feel lonely, melancholic, or terrifying depending on where you are. Combined with the pixel art, it creates an atmosphere that stays with you long after closing the game. What really impressed me was how much replay value there is. Multiple endings, hidden quests, optional bosses, secrets, and different character builds make each playthrough feel different. Even after finishing the game, I kept discovering things I had completely missed before. Of course, the game isn't perfect. It can be cryptic, progression isn't always obvious, and some mechanics aren't explained very well. It also contains mature and disturbing content that definitely isn't for everyone. But if you're willing to accept that, you'll find one of the most memorable indie RPGs ever made. Black Souls isn't just trying to imitate Dark Souls - it builds its own identity with psychological horror, dark fantasy, fairy tales, and philosophical themes. Pros: Incredible atmosphere. Memorable world and characters. Challenging but rewarding gameplay. Fantastic soundtrack. Huge replay value. Cons: Very obscure at times Some grinding may be required. Mature themes arent suitable fore everyone. Overall: 10/10. One of those rare games that stays in your mind long after you've finished it. P.S. Huge thanks to the person who gifted me this game. I honestly can’t express how grateful I am. Thanks to you, I got to discover and enjoy games I probably wouldn’t have played otherwise. You’re an amazing person!
