The second game in the series was finished two years after the first game. I completed it one month before the sudden announcement that Black Mirror III would be released. The game continues the story from Darren’s perspective, years after the incident in Black Mirror I.
Black Mirror II is the continuation game of Black Mirror I, or actually the second episode of Black Mirror series. I strongly recommend you to play Black Mirror I beforehand. Although Black Mirror II can be played as an independent game, you won't be able to understand the connections with prior events if you don't play the first game. Black Mirror II begins in small coastal town in Maine, USA and our main character is a young college student Darren Michaels. While he is working part-time in a photoghrapy studio, Darren finds himself in the middle of a dark mystery with the arrival of a woman in the town. Darren slowly and steadily find some clues about himself and his mother's connection to the town of Willow Creek and start a journey to reveal the truth. As to gameplay, Black Mirror II appears to be a traditional point-click game with some advanced mechanics compared to first game. The game gives you the possible interaction points in destinations so pixel hunting isn't a problem. You have a diary that you can see the summary of events. It also shows you what is your latest task, what you mainly need to do and did you complete the task or not. The game even gives you some clues about what you need to do with monologues. Like in the first game, you don't interact with an object second time if you don't need it and it makes your work easier. The game actively helps you to progress but it still don't stop being challenging. Puzzles are all pretty decent, balanced and logical. The most succesfull aspect of the game is the story and its both consistent and shocking turning points and connections with the first game. It makes references to the first game at some points and reveals some secrets, which we couldn't reveal in the first game, about the Gordon Family but still manages to leave some main questions unanswered so it logacally and fluently leads the story to the next part. The game always manages to keep its dark atmosphere and tension alive with a very good mixture of events, graphics and music. It also succesfully display the psychological change of the main character and his reaction to discovery of secrets that he finds it hard to believe. When I judge this game as the continuing part of Black Mirror I (and it should mainly be judged like this compared to being judged as an independent game), I can easily say that it succesfully expands the story, explains some important points we didn't know before and gives way to the final game.
Muy bueno
