Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

This is one of the best detective games I've played. Instead of simply following objective markers, the game actually makes you observe crime scenes, interrogate suspects, connect clues, and draw your own conclusions. The deduction system is excellent and gives you the freedom to accuse different suspects based on the evidence you uncover. The cases are varied and engaging, with "Black Peter" being a particular highlight. The game does a great job of making you feel like Sherlock Holmes rather than just a player clicking through a story. Not everything has aged perfectly. Some investigations can be a little obtuse, and there were moments where I got stuck because the game wasn't clear about the next required interaction. A few puzzles also feel more frustrating than challenging. The visuals show their age, but the atmosphere and writing still hold up well. What really sets the game apart is that there isn't always a single "correct" answer. You can interpret the evidence differently and decide whether justice or the law should prevail. If you enjoy detective games that respect your intelligence and don't hold your hand, this is an easy recommendation. 8.5/10

聖書に次ぐ大ヒット作とも言われる推理小説「シャーロック・ホームズ」シリーズを題材とした推理アドベンチャーゲーム。プレイヤーは主人公シャーロック・ホームズとなり、相棒のワトソンと共に、オカルト、科学的手法、人間臭さ、そしてほどよい都合の良さ、のバランスに優れた、バラエティ豊かな6つの事件を解決していく。 本作の最も優れている点は、探偵ものでありながら難しい思考を強制されず、しかし考えれば考えるほど深堀りもできる「事件に対するアプローチの幅広さ」にある。その最たる例が、「犯人をプレイヤーが自由に決めて事件を終わらせることができる」こと。極端な話、「なんかこいつムカつくな」と思えばその容疑者を犯人に仕立て上げて事件を締めくくることができてしまう。もちろん各事件には正解はあるし、それをゲーム内で確認もできる。だがそこに至るまで延々と考察し続けなくても次に進めることができるのだ。 では、一体これの何が優れているのか？もしもただ一つの答えにプレイヤーを導くことが必要となれば、どうしてもヒントを誘導的にせざるをえない。例えばミステリを普段読まない人や科学に疎い人、心情を理解するのに苦労する人でも納得できるような、ある意味で「ありきたり」なトリックや動機を用意しなければならない。しかし、正しい犯人を選択しなくて良い――つまりプレイヤーの持つ信念によって犯人を自由に認定できるのであれば話は変わってくる。様々な解釈ができ、複数の容疑者それぞれに真っ当な動機を持たせた複雑なシナリオが用意できるだろう。プレイヤーの老若男女といった属性や価値観、さらには人生経験によって犯人が変わるゲームなんてどれだけ魅力的だろうか。 そしてそれを支えるユーザー補助やユーザビリティの良さも光る。一般的な推理アドベンチャーでは証拠集めやフラグ立てが煩わしいケースも多く、「あの棚は調べたかな？会話の選択肢をちゃんと全部選んだかな？」とあちこちを走り回った経験が誰しもあるはず。しかし本作ではそういった煩わしさからは解放されており、「シャーロック・ホームズの圧倒的な観察眼を再現」するという名目なのか、情報集めが非常にスムーズになるよう設計されている。例えば人物との会話で必要な情報を集め終わった時、あるいは棚にあるアイテムを全て調べ終わった時には、その名前の横にグリーンライトが表示される。「あそこを調べてフラグが立ったから、また全部調べ直さないといけないのか？」と悩む必要はもうない。グリーンライトがあるか否か、そこだけを注視すれば良いのだ。ありがとうホームズ。 さらに私が強くショックを受けたのがローディング画面。証拠集めや容疑者への尋問のため複数のエリアを行き来することになるのだが、その際に挟まれるローディング画面中になんと資料や推理を整理することができるのだ。簡単に言ってしまえば操作ができてしまう。どんなゲームでもローディングという「ゲーム側の事情」による中断を挟むことは避けられないのだが、本作ではその隙間で世界観が分断されないように探偵業の続きができるように作られているのだ。これはアイデアと技術力の勝利と言っていいだろう。 一方で不満点をあげるなら、それはクラッシュの多さ。環境依存かもしれないが、おおよそ2時間に1回ほどの頻度でクラッシュした。世界観に惹き込まれている時にこれが起き、気持ちがリセットされてしまうのはやはり辛い。幸いそれを見越したかのように非常に細かくオートセーブが入るので数分で復帰できたのは救いだった。 クリアまで13時間ほど。2014年のゲームなのでグラフィック自体には古さを感じるが、圧倒的な作り込みでそれを補って余りあるほどの世界観が構築されている。また、ゲームとしてのインタラクティブ性を高めるために証拠集めや実証実験には簡単なパズルも用意されているが、いずれもスキップ可能で、とくにかくプレイヤーファーストが徹底されているのが印象深かった。会話も含めたシナリオはわかりやすく、読み物も多すぎないし、トリックも難解すぎない。しかしその先にある考察の間口は驚くほど広く、ミステリ初心者から考察大好き人間まで幅広く楽しめる、極めて良質な作品だと言える。

不错的福尔摩斯游戏。但是闪退有点严重，最后一个案件结论简体中文更是出现文字描述完全混乱的情况。

I want to recommend this. I really do. At best, it's /fine/, but more realistically it's /ok at best/. So you want a detective adventure game. You're not caring about actual character development, or likeable characters, or anything: then sure, you are going to get none of that with this. It's not something you'd expect, and you're not going to find yourself crying at the end (see: The Blackwell Quintet). So you want the ability to need to think about your deductions: this seems to hit that point! each of the 6 (4 decently fleshed out + 2 really quick) cases has multiple conclusions which you reach by deciding certain points do or do not hold. This is pretty great - the deduction and mystery in this sort of game quickly fall down when a game is so linear it tells you that your suspicion of some character is clearly unfounded not through analysis, but simply by the game deciding that character is not investigable...but then it falls down: okay, I can suspect this character, but how does anything else I deduced make sense? There is a "correct" option for each case, but at every single one of them I either a) had a rock solid case that someone else could've done it (and I can accuse them, and get an "incorrect" result) or b) it's vague /at best/. Perhaps I only had a single piece of evidence this other person was /even involved/ with the case. Perhaps I had 5 pieces pointing to another character. I sometimes could accuse this other character, but I would be technically wrong. If you've finished the game - the train case, the kew gardens case, even the lord case. God I want a decent detective adventure game, and this is firmly OK at best...it feels like it avoids the linear, singular solution with one singular solution (something e.g. LA Noire, despite all its faults, did manage)...until you finish the case with the "correct" option and then the game goes "wahoo you guessed correct despite every other option being equally likely and there being no explanations of every other thread in the case". That's a hard barrier to cross, and most of the other games solve it by making the characters likeable or the puzzles fun (I rtealise I've not spoken of the puzzles -- they are not at all fun. At best they are okay, at worst tedious to rage inducing).

感觉这作没有太发挥出3D推理的优势，大部分还是根据文本信息推理的（和chapter one相比的话），chapter one场景空间和推理的玩法我感觉结合得更好一些。另外这作视角实在是太晕，玩着玩着胃里泛酸水还以为是玩饿了，结果是快晕吐了… 不过本作也很好玩就是了！！毕竟3D+推理还是太小众了，本着玩一部少一部的心态且玩且珍惜…还是很推荐喜欢这个类别的人来试试的！

If you're a pedantic SH fan, you may find some of the creative divergences irritating. For me, as both an avid gamer and a huge SH fan, this is the best of the game series (admittedly, I have not finished Chapter One yet, but from what I've played, it pales in comparison to C&P). .

It's a fun game, well worth playing on a sale. A warning: the game does have a tendency to crash, but due to the frequent autosaves and the relatively forgiving gameplay, it isn't a particularly big deal.
