It simply does not work anymore with no fix that I can find. When I launch it, the page is entirely white and what used to be a grey transparent text box is not a solid black so I can't see what I'm writing until I go to the next line. Trying to access the settings just crashes it. Nimble used to be my go to word processor and I would swear by it, but now its entirely unusable
I appreciate this writer for its clean simplicity and the custom features it offers, adding characters and notes is smooth and so is creating chapters. Encryption gives real peace of mind other then to make sure you don't forget what it is or lose all your work. The layout and color customization make the workspace feel personal which I like. I tend to miss the 1990s and 1980s word programs so this brings back the feel of that. The only drawback is that changing fonts and styles can be cluncky. I wish it was more intuitive and not sure why it hasn't be offered with on the fly ability to change without going into settings., and it doesn’t quite streamline the process of preparing longer book style projects. The program is great when you don't want big tech from harvesting your data, cencor you or deciding what you are allowed to write. Which is actually a thing, and rather not have my worked locked up because big tech doesn't like what I have to say, if they can do it governments can. For that reason alone I love this product.

I Mean, it works. But: It lacks very basic things like word search and word replacement. The indent in paragraphs is backwards. It has a finicky spell correct, but each time you click to the next word instead of putting the misspelled word center, it goes to the bottom, just out of view, so you have to scroll down, which then un-highlights the word, so then you have to click the spell check button again and then click the "miss spelled words" button again. These are such basic concepts in any word processor or text program that i can't believe they are missing from this. Grammarly and any other basic spell check doesn't work with it, you have to use the horrible spell check system in the program, or copy past into another program and use it's spell check. Having a Word Count feature sounds nice, except it counts each Space as a word. Literally if you put two spaces between sentences it counts it as 2 extra words each time, making the word count feature basically worthless. "The man saw a cow. The cow was in a field." 11 words right? Nope, 22!?!? Another small touch like, Not allowing you to name the first chapter "prologue" instead of 1, also is infuriating. While it's nice that it even has a Chapter option, that slight missing detail can really throw you off. At least it loads and doesn't crash, but i wouldn't recommend anyone use this as opposed to anything else. Basically every feature is either ugly, broken, or half finished.
When I first tried Nimble Writer, I loved it. I didn't know of anything else like it, and it's still probably the most affordable software of its type. That said, I can't recommend it anymore. It breaks during things like modifying themes. I can't switch fonts - or search for a font - without the program completely crashing. I've also lost large files somehow, and, while I'm sure this is my fault, the encryption process is too complicated and easy to F* up (as I did). Now, when I try to open a large document that I saved on the Steam Cloud, it says it's encrypted and I can't touch it or view it. I think I last opened it on a laptop I haven't used in a long time, and I could probably try to fix it if I really wanted to put some time and effort into it right now, but it's just frustrating. I like it when stuff like this just works, you know? It's one thing to lose a saved game, but to lose a chapter? Even if it's just "lost" due to an encryption screw up on my own part, it's still way too valuable of something to risk. And the UI used to look so much better to me. Focus Writer looks a lot better to me now, but I don't think it has the ability to do the split screen stuff. I like Poe Writer (windows) for Markdown-ish journaling/basic writing, Day One for cloud journaling, 4theWords used to be good before they got hella greedy, and the upcoming BYOK writing app looks like it will fulfill all my needs, but this particular program makes me sad because what once I loved is now little more than a hassle I have to try to figure out how to extract and convert stuff away from without making it crash first. What a bummer.
i like this very much i wish they had a mobile app so that i could type directly into nimble when not on the laptop because i really really don't want to have to sort through my old drafts and start importing them and gain achievements from only importing older work for my project. i have a lot of run on sentences so it's going to be a very very big head booboo for me when my time to sit down and look it over comes. please make an app someday if it isn't too selfish to request such a task.
Do NOT use this if you value your writing at all. Computer crashes = Everything gone if you hadn't saved Power outage = Everything gone if you hadn't saved Windows update restart = Everything gone if you hadn't saved You get the point. Lost everything because I had to give my son a bath. Abhorrent.
Lost my cloud save. Total garbage.
simple and easy to use, and the best part for me is it allows me to write on my steam deck at work with my wireless keyboard.
Word doc has more features than this. There is like 3 fonts to choose from and lacks features that most writers would expect. Wouldn't recommend.
For everyone that loves writing Short Stories or even Novels, this software certainly gives you a helping hand. I personally used it years ago for Role Play purposes. It served me well, the pricing is well worth it.
