This is a visual novel. Few choices, so mostly linear, with some exceptions. Pros: * Very cool artworks * Lots of animations that bring scenes to life * Very good voice acting * Clearly, a lot of love was put into this game Cons: * The story... maybe it's just me, but I was really bored. It's a messy drama, with lots of pointless arguments between the characters and long stretches without real progress. The plot doesn't make much sense, and the puzzle pieces introduced during the story are never really used properly later on. I've read plenty of visual novels, and while this one is by far the best artistically, it's also the worst story-wise (but again, it could just be me).

[b]Simple Endorsement:[/b] A furry VN with the most content of any VN I've read; The Hayseed Knight develops a unique world and lore, as well as a cast of characters that recall satisfying tropes without feeling caricatured. It holds itself to high standards of writing and visual style while unfolding an epic tale. The sheer amount of quality content makes it an undeniable bargain. [b]Critical Review:[/b] The scope and depth of the VN serves as both its greatest strength and stumbling block. The amount of ground it covers is more akin to a fantasy epic spanning multiple books than the content for a single VN, and the level of depth it explores it in is similar to more elaborate fantasy. To fit in even a longer-than-average VN something has to give, and in this case it is the constancy of the narrative resolution that does. The Hayseed Knight aggressively prioritizes the exploration of specific scenes, interactions, and impressions. This makes much of the rest of the novel, still done to a high standard, feel glossed in comparison. It seems likely that, at some level, the author knows about and has done his best to compensate for this limitation. The framing device helps excuse some inconsistency in pacing and narrative attention. Additionally, the game spent some time in early access, and even recent conversations on the Discord server associated with the game have him treating it less like a finished product than one might expect. I suspect that, were it not a prohibitive load for a solo dev, he would finish the entire game with the same depth as the more intricate portions. It's worth noting that this is [i]not[/i] a case of a specific route being prioritized. While the narrative throughout the story doesn't branch much, there are multiple distinct endings which all seem to have received appropriate attention. Depending on what you're most invested in, some or all of the climaxes can seem abrupt, but the denouements are all very sweet and well-done. The overall effect is that despite being a solid day or two of high-quality content, The Hayseed Knight is potentially less satisfying than a shorter story. That said, it's far better to have a large meal that leaves you hungry for more than one you end up picking at.

I loved this game. I loved the story, loved the characters. I beat the game three days ago and when my mind is free to wander this is all I think about. It's funny, it's serious. It's happy, it's sad. It's so much more than I thought it would be going into it. There are moments that I think back on and it forces a giddy smile onto my face. I have played though the game multiple time now to find all the different scenes and events that i have missed and I know I still haven't seen it all. I know it is it's own complete story, but I am greedy and want more. Eina is the best.

listen, this did something good enough to give me a feeling, just a feeling that the Dev might have seen Revolutionary Girl Utena. I could be wrong about that though, so please take what i say with a grain of salt. i just love the story that this has. If you have a love for interesting stories and characters, please take the time to play this.

Hugely recommend playing this gorgeously crafted game! Tons of likeable characters, endearing and expressive artwork, and an unpredictable story. There wasn't one moment in this game where i truly knew where the story was going, which is pretty rare to run into today! Absolutely looking forward to seeing more from this dev.

Absolutely amazing game! First of all the art is stunning, from the painterly backgrounds to the gorgeous character designs, and even the little things like the "hand sketched journal" look of the game's encyclopedia are given the same level of attention. The art direction also deserves specific mention, as it is well-informed and well-researched to avoid many classic "desert culture" stereotypes while showcasing its Al-Andalus inspirations lovingly and proudly. This also ties into the music, providing a unique and beautiful sound that does an excellent job of setting up every scene. Whether light and fun for the comedic effect, tense and dramatic during the emotional peaks, or quiet and thoughtful for the more somber and intimate moments, each track is a treat. All of this is built on an incredible foundation of good writing, brought to life by a top-notch cast of voice actors. The world building is rich without being overly complicated and the characters are all well-rounded and complex, with dialog and interactions that weave together into an engrossing story so completely that none of them feel unimportant. And a seemingly minor thing, but it's a pleasant surprise that so much consideration has been made in terms of accessibility. Translated into multiple languages, subtitle size, text speed, and auto-forward options mean that even more people will have the chance to play this gem. All in all, the level of craft on display here is incredible. If you love visual novels I'm sure you'll love this one, and if you're normally not a fan I think this one will change your mind!

This is the best VN I have ever played. The story and characters are incredibly well written and very engaging. I could not recommend The Hayseed Knight more. I will be excitedly waiting for a sequel.
