Bizarre Earthquake, developed and published by Proximity Games, is a narrative-driven point-and-click adventure that attempts to merge scientific mystery with character-focused storytelling. Centered around an unusual seismic event, the game follows Cansu, a determined seismologist, and her assistant Bora as they investigate strange tremors in a rural region. The premise immediately sets a tone of intrigue, positioning the story at the intersection of science and the unexplained. Rather than leaning into action or survival mechanics, the experience unfolds through dialogue, environmental interaction, and puzzle-solving, embracing the traditions of classic adventure games. The structure revolves around exploration and perspective switching. Players alternate between Cansu and Bora, each offering different approaches to certain challenges and narrative moments. This dual-character design adds a layer of variety, as puzzles are occasionally tailored to one character’s skills or viewpoint. While the mechanic introduces the possibility of creative problem-solving, its execution remains fairly straightforward. Most interactions involve examining objects, combining items, or triggering dialogue sequences that gradually reveal clues about the mysterious earthquake. The pacing is slow and deliberate, prioritizing story beats over mechanical complexity. Environmentally, the game presents modestly detailed settings that reflect its indie scale. Locations range from laboratories and offices to outdoor investigative areas, each serving as a backdrop for dialogue-heavy scenes. The visual presentation relies on simple models and static camera angles, creating a functional but not especially dynamic atmosphere. Animations can feel rigid, and character movements sometimes lack fluidity, which can momentarily break immersion. Still, the environments are serviceable enough to support the unfolding mystery, allowing players to focus on the narrative rather than spectacle. The puzzle design leans toward accessibility rather than difficulty. Most challenges are logical in structure but limited in depth, often resolved through straightforward item usage or dialogue progression. While this ensures that players are rarely stuck for extended periods, it can also reduce the sense of accomplishment typically associated with more intricate adventure puzzles. At times, the game’s guidance system may feel inconsistent, leaving objectives somewhat unclear or resolved prematurely. The overall experience emphasizes story continuity over challenging problem-solving. Narratively, the game aspires to weave together scientific investigation and personal drama. Cansu’s determination and Bora’s more reserved demeanor create a subtle dynamic that drives conversations forward. Themes of responsibility, discovery, and skepticism underpin the storyline, though character development remains somewhat restrained. Dialogue occasionally shifts between grounded scientific discussion and more melodramatic exchanges, producing tonal variation that may not resonate equally with all players. The mystery itself unfolds gradually, revealing layers that attempt to blend realism with speculative intrigue. Technically, the game reflects its independent origins. Interface navigation is simple but can feel dated, and certain transitions or camera placements lack refinement. Audio design is understated, with limited music and sound effects supporting the experience. The absence of voice acting means that all narrative weight rests on written dialogue, which places additional pressure on the script to maintain engagement. While not overtly distracting, these elements contribute to a presentation that feels functional rather than polished. Despite its limitations, the game holds a certain charm for players who appreciate slower-paced narrative adventures. Its focus on investigation and character interaction distinguishes it from action-oriented indie titles, offering a contemplative experience that encourages reading and observation. Those who value story over mechanical challenge may find enjoyment in its gradual unraveling of events. However, players seeking high production values, complex puzzles, or dynamic gameplay systems may find the experience lacking in depth and refinement. Ultimately, it stands as an ambitious attempt to deliver a character-driven mystery within the framework of a traditional point-and-click adventure. Its strengths lie in its concept and willingness to center the story on scientific inquiry rather than fantastical tropes. While technical roughness and modest puzzle design hold it back from reaching greater heights, it offers a curious and occasionally engaging narrative journey for those willing to overlook its imperfections. Rating: 6/10
