About
Overview

The original design of the never-before seen point and click adventure is being brought to life after 30+ years in the vault - Beyond Shadowgate! This new PC game has been created by the designers of the original 8-bit hit Shadowgate and a leading 8-bit adventure studio!
With a world that is over five times larger than Shadowgate, Beyond Shadowgate captures the same look and feel as the 8-bit console version while including modern design sensibilities. Since the memory and color palette limitations are removed, Beyond Shadowgate is a much longer and vibrant game, with both retro and modern gameplay mechanics that give you the feel of the original! For players accustomed to the NES 8-bit version, the game features XInput controller support. The adventure is also completely playable by mouse and key binds.
Get ready for the ultimate, official Shadowgate sequel!
Story
35 years have passed since Jair defeated the Warlock Lord in the caverns beneath the living castle, Shadowgate. In that time, the land of Kal Torlin prospered and the events of Shadowgate were forgotten. But once again evil is stirring, scheming to bring the world to ruin.
In the dungeons of Gwynenthell, the capital city of Kal Torlin, a lowly Fenling by the name of Del Thornburrow awaits his fate. No stranger to a jail cell, Del soon frees himself from the dangers of the dungeon, only to begin a journey that will push him to the edge of his limits.
Lead Del as he travels through Gwynenthell, across the Torlin Forest, over the Gatekeeper Mountains, and beyond! Uncover plots to overthrow kingdoms that threaten to plunge the land into darkness! Interact with old friends and new, while protecting Del from the traps, hazards, monsters, and every other peril that may introduce him to the ever-present Grim Reaper.

shadowgate
Beyond Shadowgate completely blew me away and continues to haunt my thoughts months after its release! This gem breathes new life into the Shadowgate myth with an epic adventure lasting a solid 12 to 15 hours, filled with tricky yet brilliant puzzles, a breathtaking atmosphere and top-notch dark sarcastic humor. The pixel art visuals are stunning, although I sometimes wished they were a bit more detailed. The story develop perfectly as you progress and the time-travel twists, the nods to Uninvited and Déjà Vu, as well as the final section, left me starry-eyed. I honestly loved every second of this game and cannot recommend it enough. A must-have for all adventure fans!
Very nostalgic. And yet, this game is very creative and fun in its own right. A must for any Shadowgate, Deja Vu, and Uninvited fans. (Highly recommend checking out Grahfmetal's other games too on their website.)

Fans of the classic Macventure games that were ported to the NES will feel right at home here. The puzzles are a bit easier than the old games, but the vibe is still there. This game even takes you on a slight journey through re-imagined areas of Deja Vu and Uninvited. Definitely recommend!
Beyond Shadowgate has all of the charm and excellent writing of the original MacVenture games, combined with updated visuals and music. You will love this adventure! 👍
Very well done continuation of the SahadowGate story in a new tale taking place after the first game. Very fun and addictive and draws you into the world and the puzzles incredibly well.
If you enjoyed Shadowgate on the NES, you will love Beyond Shadowgate. This is a true sequel to the original game. Half the fun with any Macventure game is finding all the interesting ways for your character to perish, and this has plenty of fun ways to die. The puzzles are all logical if you take the time to do a bit of reading and apply some common sense. It is a game that is worth getting.
If you're a fan of the NES originals, this is a must. Fantastic love letter to these type of games, retro look and feel with just enough updates to give it some modernization. Thanks for making this happen to all who contributed!
Excellent retro graphics, music and atmosphere. More RPG elements and slightly more linear than the first game with some one-way doors. But already two nights playing in, I am thoroughly immersed and excited for all the lore and puzzles. Jair, the black castle and the Warlock Lord: it's all mentioned. And I also find myself looking for new, creative ways to die: that's the true Shadowgate spirit. We got what we wanted, and more!! Can't wait to get back to it after work.
An amazing love letter/sequel to the old Shadowgate game. Loved every minute of it, even being lost and confused at times stay fun with item and place descriptions to entertain.
