Why do I have to create a Ubisoft account to play an offline single player game on Steam?
Seriously, Ubisoft, you guys suck. Ubisoft Connect is just a total pain. Go to GOG and get the original version: it works perfectly and is way better than this piece of junk. I'm getting a refund and I'm done with Ubisoft; it's no wonder you're slowly going under, given your total contempt for players.
Beyond Good & Evil, is a classic Action-Adventure from the early 2000s, and is said to be a gem of the genre. Unfortunately, it did not sell super well at launch but it grew a huge fanbase over the years, and now that I finally played it, I can understand why! Story On a planet threatened by mysterious alien attacks, you play as Jade, a photojournalist that gets dragged into a conspiracy, that endangers her entire home world, and who else than her could be the right woman for the job! She is joined by a memorable cast of allies and embarks on a journey that blends exploration, investigation, stealth, and action while fighting to reveal the truth. Gameplay Beyond Good & Evil plays like your classic Action-Adventure game, you explore the different areas, fight enemies, mostly in melee combat, and with one companion following you. The fight system isn’t too in depth, avoiding attacks with a button press, normal attacks and a charged attack, but that is all it really needs. The levels are well designed, and fun to play through and the save points are fair, and each area has its own charm and identity. Beside the level areas, you explore the world with your hovercraft, not only to get from A to B, but also to do some side activities, like races, and some other things. Graphic/Audio The game is over 20yrs olds by now, but in my opinion it still looks great, the comic style is timeless, and the whole world just feels right in the style they choose. The soundtrack is great and the combat sounds, feel punchy and give a good feeling while fighting. Tech I had no issue in my entire playtime. Final Thoughts Beyond Good & Evil is rightfully praised, the game might be old by now, but it still is a lot of fun to play though, the story works, the characters you meet are lovely, there is enough side content and unlockables to keep you busy and the 20th Anniversary editions adds some new content. If you are a fan of Action-Adventure games, and like me, and haven’t played this game yet, I can wholeheartedly recommend to give it a go. I am certain that you will have a good time.
Ubisoft Connect? More like Ubisoft Delete! It's bad enough I have to download ubisoft connect, and create an account, but then everytime you start the game up it takes a minute to even get going because the loader needs to connect and do whatever it does, like I'm loading up an MMO and not a 20 year old game. Then I can't even turn off the ubisoft connect achievements which are large boxes that take up way too much of the screen and ruin the games immersion. This is poor treatment for a classic game. Find other ways to play it instead and boycott ubislop.
The game itself is fine, you know what it is. The negative review is for the Ubisoft Connect misery onm Linux. I came back to game after two months and now this piece of malware of a launcher just wont run. I could bring it to a white rectangle in Heroic but thats it. You can argue that Linux is not officially supported, but I consider Windows a malware, too, so that is that.
Remember when Ubisoft used to make unique games that WEREN'T just far cry 3 reskinned? weird. anyway, I'm a bit biased on this game since it was one that I owned back in the day on my GameCube and played it over and over and over so many times as a kid. I have always loved it. there isnt really any other games like it, its so unique in its world and design and gameplay. Between taking pictures, sneaking around or smacking people with your stick the gameplay is varied. I still hate that 'post credits' scene because I know we will never get a sequel. Even IF and that's a big IF we get the one they are supposedly working on it seems to be a prequel of sorts. The 20th anniversary version updated the graphics a bit and added a few little things here and there-mostly extra lore that seems to be trying to tie it in with the new game that will probably never come out. Maybe I sound jaded (HA! Jade!) but I have been waiting for another Beyond Good & Evil since the mid 2000's sooooo Anyway this was reallllly rambley even for me sorry. I love this game, go play it
Originally played on the Xbox, back in the days of X-Play reviews, Adam Sessler raved about this game enough for me to buy it. And today, Beyond Good & Evil is my all time favorite game, ever. The music, characters and universe are some of the most moving, unique and memorable I have ever experienced. The gameplay might challenge your skills but the story will challenge your perception of the world around you. My life is different because of this game.
Hola Yade! All animals and All pearls, baby! Very fun time, I think it's still got some quirks that couldn't be ironed out however. The camera controls can be a bit finicky in parts, and I think there were some puzzles that were a bit of a stretch, but overall nothing too bad. Beyond Good & Evil (BG&E) is 20+ years old now, and some of that is bound to show. Going into this I thought it would be a lot more heavy on combat, imagine my surprise when playing that it's mainly a puzzle game with some serviceable combat thrown in. I do enjoy the overall journalism aspect however, very fun and unique and it really does feel like you're busting a conspiracy wide open. What do you mean a bunch of Alien higher ups are literally sucking the life out of the regular people of Hillys backed by a controlled military group which requires revolution to overthrow? What do you mean by that, BG&E? The Alpha section are so obviously evil from the second you see them though, it's a wonder people didn't click it earlier. Hearing Pey'j's edited interview after the intro is very funny. Speaking of Pey'j, I'm surprised he's not in the game more, I thought he'd be my main companion. I do however think they could've done more with the whole Jade/mysticism thing though, that feels a bit slapped on at the end and I don't think there's enough build up for it to make it hit like how they wanted to. I imagine it was intended to be bait for a sequel, but look how that turned out... It's not often I wish for more side content, I think BG&E is wonderfully paced, but I do wish there were a few more races with the hovercraft as those were really enjoyable, especially if we're getting bangers like Salud Juanito blasting. Salud Juanito is so good I've actively been listening to it while not playing, a true testament to a banger song. BG&E holds up well enough, and as someone who never played it all those years ago, it's still a fun time.
Certainement l'un voir le meilleur jeu de mon enfance, pouvoir y rejouer m'a rappelé tellement de souvenirs !
One of the favourite games from my youth cleaned up for modern systems. Easiest purchase since C&C Remastered...
