This program is clean and easy to use for a reasonable price, however I cannot recommend it as it is abandonware, the devs took the money and ran 3 years ago without a word after releasing a 2.0 beta
It's very clear after 4 years of having the software that its completely abaondedware and I never checked the commments my first time around when i got steam so yeah this sucks but it's useable, it just literally has very few options for making stuff, I'd honestly recommend Inkarnate or Talespire (3d maps btw) to make stuff
This is great software for making RPG maps. It is clunky and takes some practice as well as compromise but it works. BUT, it has been abandoned by the dev who is actively working on Dungeon Painter Studio 2. This game is still in EA and they've been working on the sequel now since at least 2020. There is a lot of room to improve this program and it is frustrating that they just moved on.
Hope you like using ugly as heck assets that don't fit the grind because the devs are so greedy and dumb they showed cased they're unfinished sequel project using assets they didn't own, and now all of us fools who stuck using this program have to make trash maps that barely look like what they are meant to express. Just buy dungeon draft, at least you can still use the fa assets with it.
This is abandonware. I have used it off and on for years because I already own it, and it (mostly) functions, but has quite a few bugs and inconsistencies. You are better off paying the extra $5 to get Dungeondraft, a program that does everything this one can and more, with a team of real Devs who do bugfixing and the like. I've decided 20 hours into my current project that after I'm done with the map I'm currently working on I will never be using this program again, and I'll just have to eat the sunk cost of paying for and learning to use this trash fire of a program. The biggest issue for me is when the program decides that some of its basic features just won't work at all until you restart it. There's nothing quite like being in the middle of some detail work overlaying textures to make the floor tiles you're really looking for and suddenly not being able to place down any texture boxes at all. You should also always double check to ensure that the program actually updated the file when you press 'save' because sometimes it just doesn't. It's not very frequent, but every once in awhile you'll go through the entire process of overwriting the file only to find that the file has inexplicably not been updated at all. Keep file explorer open and double check before closing the program. OR JUST USE A PROGRAM THAT ISN'T ABANDONWARE.
While I appreciate the versatility and have used this tool extensively in the past, I can't recommend this over the other available software made for this exact purpose already on Steam, especially for the price tag of 15€ on a 2017 early access piece of software. Nowadays I would recommend for something more modern, like Dungeon Alchemist or Canvas of Kings.
I realizethis is abandoneware, but for what it's designed to do, it does it well. It has a hefty learning curve, but I have been using it for a very long time, and it does it's job, helps visualize for GM's. I have tried other software, dungeon draft and canvas of kings, but this one has got them beat mostly because of the hard working artist community.
While the software is buggy and seems to have been abandoned just after "2.0" was launched -- I still find it better than any subscription service. 1) Pay once and own it forever. 2) Modding community has provided many free assets. 3) Ability to use the original version instead of the broken and non-intuitive 2.0 version
Great for simple map making.
This program is a great ad for Dungeondraft.
