About
A brutal FPS. One girl. One gun. One recording.
They broke into her life.
They filmed her. They destroyed her.
Now she's back - and she's filming them.
Better Than Dead is a brutal first-person shooter set in the depths of photorealistic Hong Kong.
You play as a survivor who’s done running. She’s got a pistol, a bodycam, and a kill list.
Every level is a raid. And every raid has a rhythm.
You'll die. You'll learn. You'll come back faster - until every run feels like the revenge scene it was meant to be.
Bodycam revenge shooter – Film every step. Every shot. Every death. No mercy.
Learn, adapt, dominate - Each room has a rhythm. Die, read the layout, and come back harder. Every run is faster than the last.
Photorealistic Hong Kong – Fight your way through iconic action-movie settings: neon-lit restaurants, seedy nightclubs, back alleys, rooftop dens.
Raw, aggressive gunplay - Slide into bullet time. Move fast. Hit harder.
Cinematic action style – Inspired by classic Hong Kong action films from the ’80s and ’90s.

Update- Played a few more hours. And I've changed my opinion on the movement, its just sloppy movement at this point. Unresponsive keys, input dropping, moving like mud even if not injured. Easy fixes. Havent played much yet, but Im very excited to see this game grow through early access. The core concept, setting, and play style are a blast. Definitely Recommend. I like the aiming mechanic a lot, but the movement feels a little thick/unresponsive in some places for the pace its meant to go at (maybe its a settings issue, I am a luddite.). Keep the aiming imprecise but let me move the character like someone who is pumped with adrenaline on a revenge quest, not like I'm wearing galoshes in some winter muck. Balance the lore realness with video game suspension of disbelief. The aiming serves the fun of the game and happens to accurate to who the character is. However, I already have unlimited ammo, so if she runs faster and is more athletic than would be lore correct, I'm ok with it because it would serve the fun factor more. Also, many instances in which I've glitched through walls/rails/etc. which have either trapped me and gotten me killed or fallen through the entire map. But thats why its in Early Access, excited to see the tweaks and changes made for the game!

Better Than Dead is a potentially fantastic game that just needs more work and time. There seems a be a huge misunderstanding in the reviews that keeps cropping up over and over again - the aiming and controls are abysmal and people cannot line up shots. That is not what this game is. This is a run and gun and slide simulator. I think perhaps the bodycam aesthetic and the way the character can arc their gun while moving around make this game seem like it should be played differently. Provided you are constantly sliding, triggering slomo, and just making sure you're clicking in the correct direction, gunplay is buttery smooth. I should note, I did drop the mouse sensitivity down to .3, which I found made everything really click for me. Although, I am saying this as someone that has played a whole lotta CS2 and is used to low-sens aiming. But my point is that you should be playing like what you see in the gameplay trailer footage and gifs for the game. The atmosphere and tone are on point. I love the environmental story-telling filling in for the lack of an overt narrative. If I had two major critiques, one would be the overall jank - Animations are only half done for civilians. You'll often seem them sliding away on their feet instead of running. Enemies will clip through environments, and I lost a couple of runs simply because I got stuck on the enemies ragdoll and couldn't move. For a game this visceral, the blood effects are incredibly lacking. Everything just looks like raspberry jam. The other major critique would be the music, which just doesn't fit the genre this game is aiming for. The 80s pop tunes do not mesh well with the grimy, Hong Kong vibe. I'm aware that this game is in early access and will be receiving more content and fixes, so I'm very hopeful for it's future. As of right now, the game is a ton of fun, but janky and short (I'm at the last 3 missions having only played for a little over 2 hours). Still a solid recommend for me. Just needs more time in the oven.
Only about an hour long right now, but it was an insanely fun hour that will most likely stick with me for a while. Hope to see this game hit 1.0 because it could be an amazing experience. If 15 bucks for an hour (assuming you're not willing to replay and go for high ranking on every level) is too much for you to justify, I urge you keep this game on your radar if it ever hits full release.
My only real recommendations: Fix the lighting in the Red level The blood effects are not good Some of the corpse physics get really wacky
good game :)
