Should've been a DLC
The game has the same map and mechanics as the first game, and is basically copied and pasted for the first half of the game. The "hive" part comes after you beat the main storyline, then you can start building your own hive. However, you can tell that this second half is not polished, with the tutorial help text being so poorly written, you basically have to figure it out yourself. The buildings are purely decorative, and there is no sense of resource management or colony management. The other bees you see in your hive don't do anything, and are basically also decoration. If you already own the first game, I'm sorry, but you're basically buying the same game over again with some content added at the end. If you're thinking about buying this game, don't. Just get the original Bee Simulator for $3 and don't waste your money for this half baked "game".
this should have been a dlc, this is a re-skinned rip off
The post-story hive mode brings resource gathering, building structures, and meaningful perks missing from the main game, though it may not resonate with fans of the original. First of all, this is the exact same title that launched around four years ago. If you were among those who played the original release, you won’t find any changes in the core gameplay or storyline. The narrative is identical, and the mechanics remain untouched for the most part. Aside from enhanced visuals and a newly added “hive” feature that only becomes available after completing the main story, this is largely a repackage of the original game. One particularly frustrating issue affects returning players. If your old save file from the first version still exists, the game will detect it and carry it over automatically. While this might sound convenient, it can lead to significant problems. For example, if you choose to start a fresh game in a new save slot, the system will overwrite all your previous save slots without giving any kind of warning. For newcomers, though, the experience is enjoyable. You take on the role of a young bee who is quickly thrust into the role of a pollen gatherer and later becomes a key figure in protecting and preserving the hive. The control scheme is kept extremely simple and intuitive. Your bee character always faces forward, automatically rotating in sync with the camera. This eliminates the need to manage pitch or roll manually. The main control input is to fly forward, but you can also strafe left or right and fly backward if needed. The main loop revolves around completing missions and collecting pollen, which serves as the game's core resource. Pollen appears in the environment as colorful rings hovering above flowers. You just need to fly through these rings to collect it. Each color represents a different quality of pollen, with higher-value colors yielding better rewards. To help locate them, you can use a special bee vision mode that highlights high-quality flowers. However, since the rings regenerate fairly quickly and you can only carry a limited amount of pollen at a time, the pollen’s quality doesn’t drastically impact your progress. Once your storage is full, you must return to the hive to deposit it, at which point you receive “knowledge points”. The game is set in a large, bustling city park filled with humans, animals, and interesting spots. As you explore and interact with flora and fauna, you’ll unlock entries in your in-game encyclopedia. These entries are informative and well-written, and animals even have 3D models that can be purchased using knowledge points. Fortunately, moving around the map is fairly efficient. You can use fast travel to jump between key areas, including a direct route back to the hive. This is particularly helpful given how flawed the energy boost system is. To replenish your energy and fly faster, you need to pass through several rings of the same color consecutively. But if your pollen capacity is full or if a mission requires collecting only a specific pollen color, you’re unable to accumulate energy. Encounters with the environment are non-threatening because you can bump into objects and characters without taking damage. The only real combat happens during wasp encounters, which are handled through a basic quick-time event (QTE) battle system. You press either the left or right mouse button in time with visual cues to attack or block. Unfortunately, these battles are slow, repetitive, and overly staged. Enemy wasps frequently survive with just a few hit points, forcing unnecessary extra turns that drag out the experience far beyond what’s fun. Most of these battles occur during story missions. In addition to combat, side activities include pollen-collection quests (requiring specific types of pollen), dancing mini-games where you mimic another bee’s movements, flying races through rings, and miscellaneous missions that involve helping animals in the park. Completing these tasks rewards you with more knowledge points or special flower locations that yield higher quantities of pollen. While the main story objectives are clearly marked by waypoints, side missions and optional content only become visible when you're nearby and facing the right direction. The interface helps by displaying icons at the top of your screen that indicate what type of activity is nearby, making it easy to prioritize what you want to do or skip. Once you finish the main story, which doesn’t take very long, you finally unlock the new hive-building feature. From here on, the gameplay shifts toward a resource-management loop. In addition to pollen, you’ll now have to collect eight new types of resources, most of which are obtained the same way as pollen, by flying through matching colored rings and depositing them once your storage is full. These resources each have separate storage capacities, so they don’t interfere with each other. Although the main park map stays the same, including any unfinished missions, you now gain access to a few new areas through portals inside the hive. These new zones are smaller and more densely packed with resources, which helps reduce the grind. The night city area stands out as especially atmospheric and enjoyable. You can also take on side missions in these areas, but they're identical in design to the ones from the base game. The good news is that resource rings reset whenever you travel between the hive and one of these portal areas, allowing for more efficient gathering sessions without having to comb through the entire main park. Hive-building takes place on predetermined hexagonal tiles within your hive. You don’t have free rein to build anywhere, but each hexagon supports specific types of structures based on its size. Your main focus initially should be on building wax and honey production facilities, as these are the only two resources you must generate manually rather than collect. The production is automatic and doesn’t require input once constructed. To minimize tedious trips back to the hive, you can also build outposts that allow you to deposit gathered resources without returning home. One of the best features of the hive system is the perks that can be unlocked by building specific structures. These perks cost a bunch of the new resources to unlock and can be fairly expensive, but they offer tangible gameplay benefits. For example, you can boost the rewards from side missions or increase your damage output during battles. These are welcome additions that improve the balance and reward systems that felt lacking in the original game. In conclusion, this updated version does include some meaningful improvements, especially with the hive system and quality-of-life upgrades. For players who never experienced the original release, this is a charming and relaxing game with simple mechanics, educational tidbits, and colorful visuals. However, for returning players, the offering is far less compelling. If you've already gone through the original game, there’s little reason to play through the same story again just to unlock an endgame hive-building system that leans heavily on resource grinding. The changes, while welcome, don't justify the full price tag for what is essentially the same game with a tacked-on feature. To make matters worse, the original version is still being sold, potentially confusing buyers into thinking this is a sequel. In truth, this release would have made far more sense as downloadable content (DLC) or a smaller-size spinoff.
The game has almost the same feeling as the old one, but there are new mechanics like collecting resources. Unfortunately, when collecting resources you can no longer land the bee. My son is quite annoyed about this — there’s no roleplay anymore, and it also makes it impossible to collect energy from fruits. We continued playing from our old 100% savegame. It allowed us to enter the palm house to collect 40 pollen, which we did, and nearly all resources available. But in it, quests like “collect 4 sticks” (as seen in a video) didn’t appear. Instead, the game only said “go home to deliver the resources to the hive.” After doing that, the delivery quest did not complete and stayed stuck with the same message. Our savegame is now blocked, and my child is very frustrated with the game. It seams we've broken the quest system by collecting something on our way ... A way to reset progress back to 100% would be really helpful.
LG HundelungeVR | Hundebiene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fqa9qpjTcE
Huge money waste if you already played the first game, I played the tutorial and the first few minutes and was so sad that there was nothing new at all. If you didnt play the first game I guess its fine but this game should have been a DLC instead of a new game where you do everything AGAIN
Т.А.Л.К.Е.Р'а
Wasn’t sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised to find a slick little time waster. They undersell it in the description. Turns out this is a bee RPG with all the usual suspects, a story, collecting resources, exploration, side quests, a trophy room to populate, and all supported by various mini games. Filled with info about bees and flowers, and a bit on some animals, and a library of knowledge with 3D images to play with. Gonna be great for kiddos. I had no bugs or other issues so far. The game plays well and flight feels smooth. Mouse control is great and intuitive flight control. I would have quit without it. My only complaint is that we cannot rebind controls – the Q/E flight is backwards to my muscle memory. Maybe to mimic flight controls, but it continually frustrated me. The voice acting is comically terrible - like a couple little kids trying to do every character and accent, but it fits the theme. The art is nicely done and the graphics are good. This was a bored at 2 AM when I can’t sleep and it’s new and on sale purchase. Not mad at it for the $10 I paid. LOL. Although, I would not have even tried it at $25 retail and think that is too much, especially since the game shows me 50% complete in less than 2 hours. Certainly not my usual fare by any stretch, but it's a good game I can recommend at the right price.
