A thousand years had passed since the great battle between the Lord of Chaos and the forces of the Order. Little by little, life returned back to normal. The story begins, when a young neophyte journeys north, to learn from an eccentric wizard, one of the most ancient and powerful Guild’s members.

TLDR: Almost identical to the previous title, with more content, but more issues. Average RTS/RPG blend with average RTS/RPG execution __________________________________________________________________________ Overview: Continuation of Battle Mages, this game is a RTS/RPG blend with stronger emphasis on the RPG side with intensive micro The game has 4 different campaigns, multiplayer mode and supposedly "single levels", but just like in the previous title, there is no way to play singleplayer (instead of the singleplayer button being grayed out, its now just an empty list with no maps. great job) Each campaign has 4 pretty long missions This is a micro intense game, meaning losing your units is heavily discouraged, losing the entire squad is a no-no, you´re encouraged to keep your units alive and upgrade them into their better versions Each unit can go up to 5 ranks, with the possibility of upgrading into the next tier at rank 4 in the corresponding faction town (from tier 1 troop into tier 3) You will never really "own" a town and use workers, it´s just you, and your squads There are towns in the game that you can visit, recruit units from, upgrade units, replenish units, acquire main quests or dynamic random quests to help the town grow and gain some gold You have mana, quick spells and spellbook spells, your quickslot spells are mana-cost free to cast, while spellbook spells need mana to be casted, you can use this to cast multiple of the same spell at once Your mana drains by being too far away from your army with your camera/avatar You can increase your mana regeneration by leaving a magical spirit near a magical energy place, where the spirit wont loose energy and thus wont despawn __________________________________________________________________________ Issues: The pathing, just like in the first game is at times completely horrid. Your units from your squad will get stuck on terrain, be it a hill or a pebble, and if you dont send the rest of the squad back for the units behind, your squad will slow down insanely, even to the point where they can barely move, rendering that squad of units unusable for the rest of the mission Most of the issues from the first game are present here There would be main quests that expect you to bring resources like wood and stone (Prologue 2), but at this point, i´ve already cleared out the entire map and sold all the resources to the town, giving me no choice but to slaughter all the allied goblins (this was an option, but the annoyance comes from the fact that I had no other choice simply because I didn´t predict there would be a wood/stone quest like that) The worst issue ive come by was the last mission of Chapter 1, and that issue was an insanely unbalanced last fight in the Trodd´s castle, where if you didn´t put any of your points into max mana, you would never have enough time to finish this fight before your time runs out (even with animation cancel cheese), so my only option is to either restart the entire campaign (not mission, the whole campaign) and spec my character differently, or cheat. This is the major point of why I can´t reccomend this game over the first one, having an unbeatable mission isn´t really acceptable in my book __________________________________________________________________________ The good bad: Just like in the previous title, you can animation cancel by repeatedly pressing the "stop" button on your units, making your units restart the attacking animation thus increasing their attack speed (you don´t have to finish the attack animation to deal damage) You can speed up the game a tiny bit by pressing "-" or "+" __________________________________________________________________________ Story: The story is even goofier than in the first game, with silly villainery and tomfoolery, enjoyable if you don´t take it too seriously __________________________________________________________________________ Conclusion: It would be a straight improvement to the first game, but due to the fact that the worst issue (pathing glitches) still remain and that there is a mission that you can´t beat because you didn´t spec your character specifically. I don´t know if I can recommend this one Also the fact that the singleplayer still doesn´t work, I really wanted to try out the non-campaign side of the game, shame Otherwise the game is basically the same as the first one in terms of enjoyability, requires alot of patience and saving, so if you do enjoy that kind of stuff, go right ahead This game cost 0.49€ on sale This game is a 4.5/10 for me
Battle Mages i samodzielny dodatek Sign of Darkness były chyba jednymi z moich ulubionych gierek w okresie dzieciństwa. A w czym to zrobili?
This is my favorite game of all time i love it. Never delete it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+ Każdy z magów posiada kombinacje maksymalnie 2 szkół magii, np. chaos i natura. + Różnorodność magów - od ludzkich adeptów szkół magii, po wezwanego demona Szi oraz shamana orków AAAAAAAAARRGGGHH FOR THE GREAT KAHANAT!!!
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
This game was ahead of its time better than cyberpunk graphics 10/10 sequel needed asap
Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness, developed by Targem Games and published by ESDigital Games, is a strategy and role-playing hybrid that feels both ambitious and stubbornly rooted in an older design philosophy. Rather than following the conventions of either genre cleanly, it blends elements of both into a structure that can feel unique but also uneven. The game places you not as a traditional hero on the battlefield, but as an overseeing magical presence, directing units, casting spells, and shaping the outcome of conflicts from a higher level. This perspective immediately separates it from more standard RTS titles and gives it a distinctive identity. The gameplay revolves around managing armies that persist and evolve over time. Units are not disposable resources but long-term investments that gain experience, level up, and can be upgraded into more powerful forms. This creates a sense of attachment that is uncommon in many strategy games, where losses are usually temporary setbacks rather than lasting consequences. Protecting your forces becomes just as important as using them effectively, and this adds a layer of tension to every encounter. At the same time, your role as a battle mage allows for direct intervention through spells, which can turn the tide of combat or support your troops in critical moments. This dual focus on macro-level strategy and magical influence is one of the game’s most interesting aspects. The campaign structure expands on this system by offering multiple storylines that explore different factions within the game’s fantasy setting. Each campaign presents its own perspective on the ongoing conflicts, giving the world a broader sense of scale. However, while the scope is notable, the storytelling itself tends to rely on familiar fantasy themes and does not delve deeply into character development. The narrative functions more as a framework for the gameplay rather than a central highlight, with the player’s experience driven primarily by the mechanics and progression systems. Where the game truly distinguishes itself is in its pacing and level design, though this is also where it becomes most divisive. Missions are often lengthy and require careful planning, with a strong emphasis on resource management, positioning, and long-term decision-making. There are extended periods where progress feels slow, as players move units across large maps or prepare for future engagements. This deliberate pace can be rewarding for those who enjoy methodical strategy, but it can also feel drawn out for players expecting more immediate action. The level of micromanagement required is significant, and keeping track of multiple units, upgrades, and objectives can become overwhelming at times. Visually and technically, the game shows its age. The graphics are functional but lack detail, and the environments, while varied, do not offer much in terms of visual sophistication. The interface can feel clunky, especially by modern standards, and navigating menus or issuing commands is not always as intuitive as it could be. Technical issues, including occasional instability and bugs, further complicate the experience, making it important for players to save frequently to avoid losing progress. These aspects do not completely undermine the game, but they do create friction that can detract from immersion. Despite these challenges, Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness has a certain appeal that comes from its willingness to experiment. The combination of persistent unit progression, large-scale strategy, and magical intervention creates a gameplay loop that is unlike most conventional titles. Environmental factors such as day and night cycles and weather conditions add subtle variations to gameplay, contributing to a sense of a living world, even if these systems are not fully explored. Ultimately, the game feels like a product of ambition constrained by its era. It offers ideas that are still interesting, particularly its approach to blending genres and emphasizing long-term unit development, but it also carries the limitations of older design and technology. It demands patience, adaptability, and a willingness to accept its rough edges in exchange for a deeper, more methodical experience. In the end, Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness is best suited for players who appreciate unconventional strategy games and are willing to engage with a slower, more demanding pace. It is not an easy or polished experience, but it offers something distinct that can be rewarding for those who invest the time to understand it. Rating: 7/10
