About
What a steal! This old virtual pet game from the 90s was almost free at a yard sale two blocks away, and it was just the thing you were looking for!
Now it's time to meet Babette, the cute cat that lives inside this bright little casing. Babette is dying to play with you! If you keep her happy, you might gain a friend for life!

The more you take care of Babette, the more things seem off. Feeding her, playing with her, petting her... it becomes more and more difficult. She seems to be developing a mind of her own.
You hear footsteps outside your house.
Doors opening downstairs.
Eyes in the dark, staring at you.
Who is inside your house? And is this cute kitten trying to break free?

Throughout the game, you will cuddle up in your bedroom and play through five levels, each more difficult than the last. Keep Babette happy by using the unique button combination of the pet egg to perform mini-games:
Pet her!
Feed her!
Play with her!
Blood sacrifice!
Play hide and seek!
Do badly, and Babette will get mad. Balance keeping Babette happy with filling the progress bar to finish the level and make her go 'night night!'

After the events of the main game, you get vivid nightmares. It's like she's there, inside your head. The level begins, but this time it's different. So much more difficult. If you lose to Babette this time, you might lose it all...
Can you keep Babette happy?
Can you keep Babette contained?

Full disclosure: this game was made by a close friend of mine. That said, it's really enjoyable and I highly recommend it. The premise is fun, the spooky atmosphere is immaculate, and the gameplay is full of surprises. Even the elusive nightmare mode, which I didn't think would be my thing, turned out to be incredibly fun to play. The music alone makes it worth giving that one a shot! So yeah, clear bias here, but I think it's a short, but very sweet experience, and especially for this price point well worth it. Give it a try!
I really really like Babette. What I look for in games is usually that ''I just started the game two minutes ago and now an hour has passed" feeling. Babette is exactly that. The game is fun and cute and incredibly scary at some points. Nightmare mode made me scream out loud a few times, and the creepy sounds and visuals put some sweat on my back. The game really invites you to lock in and develop quick reflex (something I did not have before, blame the hours I spent chilling in Animal Crossing), and it made me giddy to see myself getting better and quicker with the controls. Babette is mostly built on playing minigames perfectly fit for a cat. Feeding her kibble, petting her, giving her toys, finding her in rooms and... sacrificing blood? I love how the minigames get more difficult and change over the course of the game. I thought it would be boring to repeat the same actions but I honestly just got excited guessing what minigame would come and cursing Babette for always running to the complete other end of the game. It's simple but effective. The game is short, but it has a nice re-playability factor. There are fun achievements, the aforementioned nightmare mode and I just really like putting a smile on Babette's face (even though it seems like she doesn't feel like returning the favor). I feel like Babette is a great prelude for whatever more this developer has in store. The story of the game got me excited, and I wonder what it all means. When I started looking around, a lot of questions came up. Why is there a dog called Charlie in the booklet?? Why and how is there a knife coming out of this thing?? What is opening my bedroom door?? I love how this game seems to be alluding to more than just a short 'n sweet horror game. Would really already recommend buying the game to watch Babette lick her paws and meow at you. Absolutely love the art.
Babette is a terrible collection of bad mini-games that are not fun to play and are frustrating to execute. Pros + A Haunted Tamagotchi is a fun idea + Visually some cool stuff here Cons - The game starts off fun but rapidly descends into terrible - Core gameplay loop is moving through various screens doing the same 3-4 terrible mini games to stop being killed by Babette - The mini games are poorly executed and it's ridiculously easy to miss-click/click too far and die a few seconds later - Probably one of the most frustrating gameplay experiences I've had this year 4/10 A fun idea, marred by bad execution
Okay, so I love this game. It gets HARD though and there's also a nightmare mode. I reviewed the demo on lunacity7.com/reviews and enjoyed it so much I went and bought it. Later that day, the dev offered me it for free as a thank you but too late - mine now. If you like late 90's/early 2000's nostalgia, horror and frantic gameplay, give Babette a try.
You will finish this game in about 2 hours. In those 2 hours I had alot of fun but holy hell, nightmare mode is not a joke. If you make a mistake in nightmare mode, the game knows how to punish you for it.
I really enjoyed playing through this game! I would've adored it and been a little more engaged with a bit of lore or new mechanics introduced between nights to keep things fresh. For those hunting achievements, it can get a little repetitive, and some mini-games might even wear your wrist out over time. But overall, it's a fun, scary game that’s well worth playing—especially if you have some nostalgic love for Y2K-era Tamagotchis!
