About
Welcome to the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger.
Set in the fictional world of Eora that was first introduced to players in the Pillars of Eternity franchise, Avowed is a first-person fantasy action RPG from the award-winning team at Obsidian Entertainment.
The Living Lands is an island where the air hums with ancient magic, the flora seems to move with a mind of its own, and the ground beneath your feet shifts with secrets waiting to be unearthed.
Now, the Living Lands faces a dire threat—a mysterious plague that defies nature and reason, spreading chaos across its sprawling wilderness.
As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate, but what begins as a mission of duty soon becomes deeply personal—you feel as though the land recognizes you and is pulling you toward something greater. The choices you make will ripple across the Living Lands, shaping the fates of its people, its creatures, and even yourself. But beware, for every decision carries weight, and the forces you encounter will not hesitate to test your resolve.
Can you navigate the tangled web of intrigue, power, and danger to uncover the truth? Can you save this unknown frontier and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them asunder?
Even more to do in the game! This update brings New Game Plus, a Photo Mode, a brand new weapon type with two-handed staves, the ability to change character appearance whenever you’d like, new character creation presets, additional Godlike presets, custom game difficulty settings, and the addition of three new playable races: Dwarf, Aumaua, and Orlan.
The Living Lands is a place that feels foreign yet somewhat intrinsic to you as it feels the island itself is calling out to you for help. Explore an island home to many different environments and landscapes, each with their own unique ecosystem.
Mix and match swords, spells, guns, and shields to fight your way. Dig into your grimoire for spells to trap, freeze or burn enemies, bash them with your shield, or use range bows to attack from a distance.
Companions from a spread of species will fight alongside you, with their own unique set of abilities. From a former mercenary to an eccentric wizard, they will be part of your journey with your choices shaping them as you help them with their quests.

One of the best open world fps rpgs I've ever played. Great story, great combat, great environmental storytelling, great level design, great systems that allow you to play how you want.
Ein großes Abenteuer in beeindruckender Kulisse. Für mich das beste First-Person-Fantasy-Rollenspiel seit Jahren.
НЕ идеальная игра, но в целом было интересно. Боевка плюс.
I'll keep it short and sweet. I found the game to be fine. It didn't quite have the story or lore depth of Pillars of Eternity or Deadfire, but the story was solid enough to keep me invested to keep doing. Combat was actually pretty good. I'm not really interested in doing New Game+ or hunting the last of the achievements. Its a good one and done deal for me.
Excellent Combat and Amazing World
On sale I'd 100% recommend this game, if not on sale I recommend buying only if you're the type to want to see all outcomes. It's loads of fun and worth multiple playthroughs to try all the backgrounds and see the different endings. Each companion has multiple endings/outcomes based on your input. Combat is fluid and engaging. Nothing feels weak or particularly overpowered, although some playstyles are clearly better than others. My main criticism aside from needing to command-line disable raytracing to get it to run at all, is that the game seems incomplete. There are four main zones in the world, but the world map shows room for probably 6-8 with hints that would imply more zones were planned but then cut. The "Living Lands" seem smaller than they should be.
I love avowed, it is one of my "every once a few months" RPGs that I play through.
I REALLY wish the developers kept the initial vision of the game as I think it would have done exceptionally well in the market. There seemed to be universal excitement for this game before the second reveal. I didn't really care for the lore, the characters or the art style in this game as nothing really appealed to me. The story wasn't that bad I guess generally speaking but Sapadal seemed to be a wimpy emotional wreck. The reason I'm giving this game a recommendation is purely for gameplay. Whoever designed these lands did an amazing job. This game is an explorers dream. There are so many areas off the beaten path to explore that I find myself naturally wandering off on my own instead of going to the next quest. That's a good thing!!! Character movement, combat and parkour all felt great as well.
It was ok, the quest and stories were cool, combat too but it became boring after a while, I kinda wanted to be over with it when I reached the last zone tbh.
A much, much better game than its reputation at release gave it credit for. It's not the second coming of Skyrim, but it's an incredibly solid mechanical experience wrapped up in an interesting setting and some surprisingly good writing/dialogue. I played a wizard with book-o-spells in one and hand and a wand or a sword in the other and found it a lot of fun. The combat isn't exactly Dark Souls but does encourage you to be paying attention with dodging/parrying. I played it on medium difficulty and would maybe say it's a bit too generous with resources like potions/food if you're the type to be quite thorough with exploring. The best part of the combat mechanics though I think is the feel of it, in melee or with magic it just feels meaty and satisfying. I think the lore and the world setting were the biggest surprise for me. I don't think the game does a great job of advertising this from the outside with its weird mushroom-based aesthetic, but there's actually some really solid writing and interesting ideas. It's a very high-fantasy setting with the gods being a front-and-centre theme, and without spoiling anything it does some interesting stuff with this. World exploration is great too. It is split into 4 main open-world zones that you progress through in linear order, but each of these zones is packed with detail and heavily incentivises exploration with a wealth of legendary/unique items hidden in nooks and crannies. On this note the game has a surprisingly satisfying and fluid parkour system, and scaling random buildings feels very natural. It can maybe be said that the final zone falls down a bit in this regard, but this might be more down to the normal fatigue with having played the game for a long time by that point. Avowed was a very pleasant surprise for me and I'm keen to see what Obsidian do with the game world through future content.
