About
Welcome to the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger.
Set in the fictional world of Eora that was first introduced to players in the Pillars of Eternity franchise, Avowed is a first-person fantasy action RPG from the award-winning team at Obsidian Entertainment.
The Living Lands is an island where the air hums with ancient magic, the flora seems to move with a mind of its own, and the ground beneath your feet shifts with secrets waiting to be unearthed.
Now, the Living Lands faces a dire threat—a mysterious plague that defies nature and reason, spreading chaos across its sprawling wilderness.
As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate, but what begins as a mission of duty soon becomes deeply personal—you feel as though the land recognizes you and is pulling you toward something greater. The choices you make will ripple across the Living Lands, shaping the fates of its people, its creatures, and even yourself. But beware, for every decision carries weight, and the forces you encounter will not hesitate to test your resolve.
Can you navigate the tangled web of intrigue, power, and danger to uncover the truth? Can you save this unknown frontier and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them asunder?
Even more to do in the game! This update brings New Game Plus, a Photo Mode, a brand new weapon type with two-handed staves, the ability to change character appearance whenever you’d like, new character creation presets, additional Godlike presets, custom game difficulty settings, and the addition of three new playable races: Dwarf, Aumaua, and Orlan.
The Living Lands is a place that feels foreign yet somewhat intrinsic to you as it feels the island itself is calling out to you for help. Explore an island home to many different environments and landscapes, each with their own unique ecosystem.
Mix and match swords, spells, guns, and shields to fight your way. Dig into your grimoire for spells to trap, freeze or burn enemies, bash them with your shield, or use range bows to attack from a distance.
Companions from a spread of species will fight alongside you, with their own unique set of abilities. From a former mercenary to an eccentric wizard, they will be part of your journey with your choices shaping them as you help them with their quests.

I wish I liked this game more than I do. Every step of the way, I was rooting for it and in some occasions, the game managed to meet the moment. As a complete package though, I just found myself wanting so much more. Every bit of praise I have to give is immediately countered with a baffling and frustrating design decision. Case in point: The combat is really great. I was always looking forward to situation to fight and would often choose more aggressive dialogue options just to test myself against the game's combat chess. It was really fun! Unfortunately, the borked gear system and level progression damper a lot of the potential here. I did nearly every side quest in Avowed, including bounties and regional/faction quests., but I was never able to stay on gear curve at all. I was also a tier or two behind. Leveling my character was never eventful at all. Just boilerplate number-go-up stat bonuses. The exploration is the BEST part about Avowed. The environments are dense and full of really cleverly hidden dungeons. Emerald Stair and Shatterscarp especially are breathtaking. The draw distance for these maps is vast. Going to a high elevation point and just staring out into the distance never gets old. And even THIS has a flaw embedded in it. The loot you get in some of these cool locations is so trash, man. I'm in a dungeon near the end of the game and I'm getting CRAFTING MATERIALS. Like I can count on one hand the amount of cool weapons I got while looting. Now, I get they would like us to explore and find hidden weapons through our travels. And sure, that's fair. But the fact that they would rather us progress the basic weapons instead of providing more unique weapons is just strange. I can imagine a lot of people not enjoying the process of upgrading their starter weapon into a legendary one. It makes the basic experience of opening a chest feel not interesting at all. One last thing are the cities, man. I really hate the ways Avowed's cities are. Skill Up described it as "a set permanently suspended in the phase before the director says action" and he's absolutely right. They're so boring and lifeless. NPC's don't really move and will stand in the same places throughout the entire game in most cases. It's really immersion-breaking. Seeing how devs create NPC interactions in cities is really cool. I wish they did a better job here. A lot of folks were critical of the "lore-dump" approach Obsidian took with the writing and I don't necessarily mind it. It can sometimes feel like characters are just over the moon to tell you something about their region's subculture, which I dig a lot. It reminded me a lot of the first Mass Effect in that way.
Just a really fun Fantasy FPS. Fluid combat, interesting story, fun exploration, simple to play, yet really deep lore.
A fun game where Garrus Vakarian can be your companion again! But the I'll also say that the map designs in this game is great. The world feels handcraftet and it's a lot of fun to see something cool on the horizon and decide you want to check it out. The combat also feels great, it feels fast and flashy in a way that makes you feel cool. I will also say that my pc is not the best, so at the endgame I started to expirience some technical hiccups and crashes, which is a shame since the early game runs completly fine for me. I'll say the game is worth giving a chance, and having fun exploring and getting to know your character
One of the absolute best obsidian games I have ever played.
It's got guns and magic
