About
Welcome to the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger.
Set in the fictional world of Eora that was first introduced to players in the Pillars of Eternity franchise, Avowed is a first-person fantasy action RPG from the award-winning team at Obsidian Entertainment.
The Living Lands is an island where the air hums with ancient magic, the flora seems to move with a mind of its own, and the ground beneath your feet shifts with secrets waiting to be unearthed.
Now, the Living Lands faces a dire threat—a mysterious plague that defies nature and reason, spreading chaos across its sprawling wilderness.
As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate, but what begins as a mission of duty soon becomes deeply personal—you feel as though the land recognizes you and is pulling you toward something greater. The choices you make will ripple across the Living Lands, shaping the fates of its people, its creatures, and even yourself. But beware, for every decision carries weight, and the forces you encounter will not hesitate to test your resolve.
Can you navigate the tangled web of intrigue, power, and danger to uncover the truth? Can you save this unknown frontier and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them asunder?
Even more to do in the game! This update brings New Game Plus, a Photo Mode, a brand new weapon type with two-handed staves, the ability to change character appearance whenever you’d like, new character creation presets, additional Godlike presets, custom game difficulty settings, and the addition of three new playable races: Dwarf, Aumaua, and Orlan.
The Living Lands is a place that feels foreign yet somewhat intrinsic to you as it feels the island itself is calling out to you for help. Explore an island home to many different environments and landscapes, each with their own unique ecosystem.
Mix and match swords, spells, guns, and shields to fight your way. Dig into your grimoire for spells to trap, freeze or burn enemies, bash them with your shield, or use range bows to attack from a distance.
Companions from a spread of species will fight alongside you, with their own unique set of abilities. From a former mercenary to an eccentric wizard, they will be part of your journey with your choices shaping them as you help them with their quests.

Reviews
15h in and until now its the best first person RPG ive played since Morrowind. Will update the review when i finished it but damn i wish i didnt listen to all people trashing this game and making me miss out for a year
Honestly, this game is not exactly horrible and perhaps it's worth buying it with a generous discount, BUT The word which describes the game best is "incompleteness". When you play, you will always bump into things that feel incomplete or underwhelming. There is no stealing in the game, you can just pick whatever you want. You can't attack the neutral NPCs. When you open a chest, you don't crack it wide open, the character just leaves it slightly ajar. Combat becomes boring over time (because you either faceroll a pack or you get swarmed by summons) and I straight up dropped the difficulty a notch because the enemies were way too spongy for my taste, not to mention that it's quite important to raise your item level often. Yes, upgrading your gear is important if you don't want to suffer. Dialogue is weak and quite often is there just to have a dialogue. The story could've been quite interesting but it fails to grasp your attention and then stumbles in its own narrative spaghetti, failing to properly set expositions and unravel the important bits step by step. All in all, I went into the game with rather low expectations and I saw exactly why Avowed is not exactly a great game. Not only it's lacking by modern standards, it's even worse than the games which came out 15 years ago. Avowed would've been better if it was an adventure, but as an RPG you'd better play Skyrim or Oblivion. In fact, any other Obsidian RPG is better than this game, and I can't comprehend how a company that made KOTOR 2 and New Vegas made this thing... I finished Star Wars Outlaws recently, and as a game which is also hailed as a failure I found it surprisingly good. Outlaws, despite glaring flaws, isolated them into specific parts of the game and left you with an immersive adventure. I enjoyed it, to my surprise. In Avowed, the essence of the second to second gameplay is flaws. You will meet them constantly. Something will bug you at any moment you play. If you really want to play this game, pick on a generous discount.
Best edition of skyrim they've released!
Fantastic game :)
This will be my last Obsidian purchase. Everytime I give them a try I am met with the same result- over annoying side characters that won't leave, forced pairing with companions that do literally nothing for the fight, slow motion cut frames during a fight that take you out of it, loot that is sub par at best, and overall just VERY clunky fight gameplay.
I tried to like it but I feel like nothing in the game lives up to its trailers. They give the feeling of high impact and varied gameplay. Most of it for me was just spamming my left mouse button. Sometimes a dodge or spell. The companions are there, the story is a thing, the character builder is well it exists. Maybe I'm a bit harsh but even though you can be a sycophant of an evil empire the game kinda feels awkward if you do because of how the companions are all goody twoshoes who aren't of the empire. Honesly if this game had an extra companion that would actually be an empire loyalist and you get them at the start it would likely have felt way better already. If you enjoy 100% exploring a map then this game is a fun 7-8/10. If you don't care for it then it is a 6-7/10 at best. For me it's a 5 since I didn't like the spammy combat nor the companions nor the story direction nor the supposedly tropical setting that never really had an impact on the world. Conclusion: I wanted to like it and expected something like dark messiah mixed with skyrim and the game just never grabbed me. (Stopped playing after act 2)
An excellent RPG with some amazing level design, excellent world building (especially for POE heads). The narrative as a whole is great but gets a bit dry. The quests range from decent to really great, with some very nice reactivity within the world, and the orgainc way you can stumble onto them is really well done. The combat is decent, punchy and fast but gets a bit samey as the game goes along but still not really the main draw for me. Love the art direction of the living lands and the game looks gorgeous throughout.
I've heard people say that this is not a good rpg. Well, maybe not. But, it is a great game. Albeit, probably as much action/adventure as rpg. It's just fun. Every system is polished and has great QoL features. Exploration, crafting, dialogue, combat; all just really enjoyable. The great graphics are a bonus. I've also heard people say the story isn't great. Well, the story may seem odd if you're not familiar with the Pillars of Eternity games. Not that you need to play those. But the problems and concerns in this game follow from those games.
Great game. If you are into a good story RPG then 100% buy this
A sloppy game with unremarkable characters, clunky combat and boring story. yet another game i wish i hadn't bought.
