Not a perfect game but this is the only fighting game I want to play right now out of the 6 other fighters that I own that are still active. Avatar Legends TFG is just my vibe, the gameplay is well done along with the animations it brings the nostalgic feel without feeling gimmicky. The fast movement along with the Flow mechanics are cracked out & I love it. Inputs are strict in this game, not like modern fighters now with long buffer window. That alone makes the game a bit harder for me at least in a good way. Not a lot of characters at launch some would say but every character plays soo different from each other especially with the 3 different assist options. I dont care about no ranked right now the game is really fun playing just to play (imagine that) even though I get stomped online, I will git good eventually! Cons: Training mode options arnt the best IMO. More online options like adding friends so we dont have to do it outside the game ala Discord. Story mode is goofy, they should have made the RPG mode Granblue had in their 1st game with the characters being bosses to fight. Needs survival mode & different party modes like a mode where you have a showdown like when the timer runs out ect.....

The inputs is design by a person who have never played a single fighting game in their entire life. Keyboard have NO REBIND and defaults you to arrow keys for movement and execution. The attack buttons for Light, Medium, Heavy, and Flow are "A, S, D, F" on the keyboard. Using my Hitbox controller (also no rebind), the attack buttons for Light, Medium, Heavy, and Flow is in this order, get this: Circle --> Triangle --> Cross --> Square. Wtf????? This is one of the most ass backwards controls I have ever seen in a fighting game!!! The menus are impossible to navigate because the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ button-prompts are in numbers, like I know I uses a PlayStation controller but could I have at least the Xbox buttons?!?!? Also you press confirm in the main menu using the SQUARE BUTTON button, ♥♥♥♥ YOU.
+Animations are lovely +Faithful representations of the characters +Good voice acting +Seemingly well thought out combat systems* +Diverse character playstyles +Fair price -Its maybe not as flashy as other 2d fighting games that I like. -Most the backgrounds are a little boring. - The story is convoluted and dull and seems to borrow pretty heavily from DBFZ ridiculous story. - The lack of walking animations makes the characters look a little silly when they are exiting the scene during story mode and it makes it kind of feel like a goofy stage play. -Its not casual friendly. Its fast and its really dependent on movement and other complicated mechanics like flow that are really going to ruin your time if your just looking to mash some buttons to see what happens and maybe get lucky. I love fighting games but I suck at them and I know this. I kind of wish they would just build a beat 'em up storymode into every fighting game for casuals like myself. That would really elevate it for me. With that said I can recognize it's a good game. So if you're good at fighting game or a casual like myself who understands online play is gonna test your will to live than i think it's worth supporting the devs.
I wanted so badly to like this game, but it has SO many problems: - There is zero client-side control of the game. You have settings for audio, and button notations. Nothing else. - training mode does not allow any fine controls over the training dummy, making labbing of specific things impossible. The dummy will either attack you with wild abandon or mirror your every move. - the actual controls themselves are garbage. It promised crisp, precise controls. What I got instead was horrendously delayed inputs despite being locked at 60fps and hardwired to my LAN. - No ranked mode. The developers advertised a ranked fighter for its entire development cycle, then had the audacity to launch it without ranked and no actual timeline for when ranked can be expected. To the developers: This is shameful. Do better.
Hard to properly compliment this game without feeling like you're underselling in some aspect. the game is just like a never ending juicy burger of depth where every bite is a fresh flavor and I don't see myself ever getting bored with it. Tl;dr: ITS PEAK The game does not sacrifice depth for the sake of being beginner friendly, but it still has a basic auto combo system that doesn't not step on the toes of the larger combo structure. There are easy and hard characters and even the easy characters have a complex ceiling to reach for. There are not a ton of buttons (4 in total) but I do think the macros for the button combinations are pretty important depending on your character. It has no shoryuken inputs (➔⬇↘) which tbh even as a FG purist I'm happy to see. I've always had trouble landing them depending on what pad i'm using and I'm sure for a brand new player is an unnecessary complexity that doesn't add anything. the difficulty in this game comes from converting hits and manual timings and engaging with the extremely deep defensive mechanics. trust me, i've never once said damn I wish this game was harder lol. The flow system is their "global mechanic" similar to the drive system in street fighter 6 and it is really what ties this entire game together but not in a homogenous way. flow parry is your catch all block mechanic and that's only one use for the flow button. every char has different flow moves, dodges/rolls/counters etc and then a unique movement option tied to the flow button. so it reaches into both offense and defense on an integral level that makes it as important as the health bar itself. The characters are all flushed out and uniquely interesting, and once a character clicks with you I can imagine you are "maining" them for the foreseeable future. I have DREAMS about Zaheer combos/conversions/punishes, it's actually unbelievable that I have almost 60 hours (30 spread out from the various betas) and almost the entire 60 is just me playing one character. that is not typical behavior for me at all. maybe zaheer is just the goat character design (he is) and the other chars don't have this kind of appeal but I seriously doubt it. The art is BEAUTIFUL. it's actually so offensive that people were saying it looks like a flash game, like the amount of beautiful hand drawn frames is staggering. the fact that a handful of characters were released in an unfinished state really put into perspective how good everyone else looks. the supports/stages all look amazing too. like they were lifted STRAIGHT out of the show. Ozai got a lot of frames added to his animations and it's extremely noticeable, and I imagine avatar aang and nightmare korra will look great once they are fully flushed out visually. The netcode is top tier, though I think characters with insane burst speed (azula air dash stands out far above the rest) the rollback interacts really poorly with that at anything above 70-80 ping. but honestly it's really the only thing that stands out. adjustable frame delay means you can adjust it based on what feels good to you. The ranked mode is good, but it launched without it and honestly I think that was good for the game. I was just running first to 20's with strangers in casuals and taking my time experimenting and learning matchups organically. if i was trapped in a first to three simulator when I started playing a lot I wouldn't have learned as much. Balance is great. and the replay takeover they added has really helped me "get gud" instead of complaining. the fact that my opinion of the tier list is changing daily speaks to how deep the game is, and that's thanks a lot to the freedom of movement and defensive options. that being said NERF KORRA The story mode is better than I expected, but my expectations were on the ground tbh. The pvp is the main course, and I think getting this game expecting the opposite you will be somewhat disappointed. It's def true that the game released in a somewhat unfinished state, but that's very obviously not the fault of the devs. Paramount did their best to ♥♥♥♥ over the avatar IP again but they failed simply because this game is just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good. the first patch did a lot for my faith that this game will have a rich future. 10/10 - I foresee this game staying in my top 3 fighting games of all time - and I have faith this game will receive extremely good patches and character dlcs.
This game surprised me so much. I honestly can't believe how good it is. Lets talk about it. Pros: Visual Style / Graphics - The game literally brings Avatar the series to life. The graphics are so well one and the art style and animation is so well does its nearly mind blowing. I love how smooth everything runs and how it feels like your literally in the animated show playing the characters. They really nailed the style here. Gameplay - The gameplay for Avatar the fighting game is honestly top tier. What i thought was initially a "simple" fighting game quickly became a fun technical fighter that has alot of depth to it. Some characters are more noob friendly than others but ultimately there is so much to discover here it's insane. Music - The game features really good music that is overall satisfying to the experience. Value - Its a $30 retail video game. Considering how much it offers I cant help but mention this. Theres a lot to find here for $30. Cons: Story Mode - The story mode while serviceable, definitely feels tacked out and forgotten about. Going through the story its "okay" to say the least, but your really only going to do it to unlock Nightmare Korra and such. Not much was put into this. Lack of Characters - Ultimately this is a con and not a con, but I am listing it here simply because of the limited amount of characters to play as at the retail of this game. Only two unlockable characters and thjey are just different versions of already available characters. I will say that the characters atleast are very fleshed out which is nice. I would just hope for a little more. Remember though, $30 game still. Lack Of Multiplayer Features - I know they are adding a spectator mode, but their lobby system is bad. Only options for simple 1 vs 1, which again can service the retail release, but for this to really hit, a true lobby system for more than 2 people with a spectator mode would be super beneficial to this game. They are indeed adding a spec mode later on, but its not there at release, which is a problem in my opinion. Overall i REALLY enjoyed the time spent with Avatar. When they release a spectator mode and bigger lobbies I plan to come back to this and stream this some more. Its a super fun technical fighter that will shock you are how in depth it actually is. Thanks for reading.
Very disappointing. The biggest issue is the complete lack of difficulty settings. The default difficulty feels like it's permanently set to "Extreme," making it impossible for me to defeat NPC opponents. Countering attacks is inconsistent. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't, even when the button is pressed at the right time. Combat comes down to whoever spams the most attacks wins. The "story mode," if you can even call it that, is simply a series of fights connected by a few lines of text before each battle, all of which can be skipped. Avatar is an amazing franchise and deserves much better than this. This game has potential, but in its current state it's difficult to recommend.
Should you play Avatar legends?
I swear to god If you people let this game die for tokon I will find you.
Disclaimer: this is my first time getting into a fighting game since Melee, and my first time enjoying an arcade fighter. The emphasis on movement abilities is really great, and they did a fantastic job with the character designs. But this is one of the most buggy full releases I've ever played. If you try to skip through the pre-trial demos then the game will get locked in a black screen state where you can't do anything. Sometimes if you reset a trial or free training the game will just freeze. At one point my dash button (which counts as a 2 button press) just stopped being able to trigger EX special moves in trials, while in free training it worked perfectly fine. On top of all that, the story mode is super bland. IMO story mode would have been a perfect place for new players to get a grip on the fundamentals of the game, but they just kinda throw you into it. I'm fine with the story mode having no difficulty setting, but it doesn't feel like it's teaching anything about the game, and more just throwing you into sequential bot lobbies with a loosely written story. The most polished part of this game is the raw multiplayer versus mode. I have won a single match out of like 60 matches but it was fun to see what is possible in this game with more practice. The actual gameplay of Avatar Legends is peak, although I do wish there was some sort of input buffer to help beginners like myself with combo consistency. The mechanics are super well done. Unfortunately everything outside of the combat in versus mode feels unrefined / unfinished. If they released this in Early Access I'd be leaving a positive review, and will happily change this to a positive review if they focus more on bugfixes and UX stuff
