Definitely better than Ayesha, with multiple QOL stuff added, like having all consumable items replenish when you get back to Colseit, and you aren't forced to defeat every super boss to get every achievement. Also, Willbell is back, and she is the BEST character from Ayesha, and you can't convince me otherwise.
Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky DX is a warm, imaginative, and surprisingly introspective entry in the long-running Atelier series, offering a blend of traditional JRPG mechanics, alchemy-driven crafting systems, and a relaxed, character-focused narrative. Developed and published by KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD., the DX edition brings visual refinements, previously released DLC, and quality-of-life upgrades that make this release feel like the definitive way to experience the second chapter of the Dusk trilogy. What sets Escha & Logy apart from earlier Atelier titles is not just its dual-protagonist structure, but the way it balances end-of-the-world melancholy with everyday charm. It presents a world in decline, slowly succumbing to the quiet advance of the “Dusk,” yet chooses to explore it through the hopeful eyes of two young alchemists who believe that small acts—repairs, research, gathering missions, and community support—can still make a meaningful difference. The story begins in the remote frontier town of Colseit, where Escha Malier, a cheerful and intuitive alchemist, works alongside Logix “Logy” Fiscario, a more methodical alchemist newly transferred from the central city. The dual-protagonist approach subtly shapes how the narrative unfolds: Escha’s route leans into character relationships, optimism, and the emotional core of the story, while Logy’s path offers a more analytical, grounded perspective on the mysteries of the world and his own past. Regardless of your chosen lead, the game gradually moves from small municipal projects—fixing windmills, restoring orchards, crafting supplies—to grander undertakings involving ancient technologies, forgotten ruins, and the ominous floating structure looming overhead. This gradual shift from the mundane to the mythic gives the narrative a gentle rise, allowing the player to bond with the cast and understand the fragility of the world before the stakes escalate. Alchemy, as expected, forms the heart of the gameplay, and Escha & Logy elevates the synthesis system with more depth and flexibility than earlier titles. Materials gathered from the field carry detailed properties that can be manipulated through synthesis, letting the player create equipment, consumables, and tools with highly customized traits. Escha’s traditional cauldron-based alchemy and Logy’s disassembly-and-forging approach complement one another, giving synthesis a satisfying variety and encouraging experimentation. The process is layered but approachable, offering a steady sense of mastery as players learn how to craft gear that transforms combat encounters or enables more efficient exploration. The pleasure of discovering new recipes, optimizing traits, and producing powerful items remains one of the franchise’s core strengths, and it shines brightly here. Combat blends classic turn-based structure with light tactical elements and quality-of-life improvements that keep battles brisk and engaging. Parties consist of three active members and three reserve allies, with a dynamic support system allowing for automated follow-up attacks, defensive assists, and chain combos triggered through careful timing and gauge management. Escha and Logy’s “Double Draw” mechanic adds flair by allowing them to unleash enhanced item effects together, transforming crafted tools into strategic powerhouses. While the combat isn’t overly difficult or deeply complex, it remains consistently fun, especially once the player learns how to exploit crafted equipment and elemental synergies to control the pace of encounters. Structurally, the game is built around an assignment system that gives the player long-term goals while subtly guiding progression. Each chapter spans several in-game months, with one major objective supported by optional tasks that reward efficiency, exploration, and synthesis variety. This structure creates a mild sense of time pressure, but never enough to feel restrictive; rather, it nudges players toward balanced play—gathering materials, completing side quests, improving relationships, and strengthening their atelier operations. The flow of planning, adventuring, crafting, and reporting forms a comfortable rhythm that makes the world feel both lived-in and purposefully paced. Where the game truly shines is in its cast of characters and the softness of its worldbuilding. Colseit’s inhabitants, from eccentric inventors to rugged adventurers, form a community that feels interconnected and alive. Their interactions—comedic, heartfelt, awkward, or quietly profound—give shape to a world threatened by decay yet still full of hope and curiosity. Escha and Logy’s contrasting personalities deepen the experience, as their collaborative dynamic blends earnestness with introspection. Side events, character-specific quests, and personal vignettes create a tapestry of small storytelling moments that collectively enrich the overarching narrative, making the impending mystery of the Dusk feel more emotionally resonant. Though polished in many respects, the game is not without its limitations. The opening hours can feel slow, particularly for players unfamiliar with Atelier’s lighter pacing. Combat, while enjoyable, may feel too straightforward for those seeking deep tactical challenge. Exploration areas are relatively compact, and environments sometimes lack ecological variety. Yet these issues rarely detract from the experience as a whole, especially for players who appreciate the series’ emphasis on crafting, relationships, and atmosphere over traditional JRPG spectacle. Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky DX ultimately succeeds by blending melancholy and coziness into a uniquely soothing JRPG journey. It provides a thoughtful narrative progression, a robust alchemy system, charming characters, and a distinctive tone that invites players to savor the world rather than rush through it. As part of the Dusk series or as a standalone introduction to Atelier’s philosophy of gentle storytelling and meticulous crafting, it stands as one of the franchise’s most approachable and emotionally engaging entries. Stunning visuals, amazing story, great gameplay. The different systems, from alchemy to combat to character interactions, fit perfectly together and make the game hard to put down because it simply feels so effortless. The world is wide but full of personality, and the soundtrack wraps every moment in a cozy sense of wonder. What really stands out is how sincere the game feels. It never tries too hard, yet almost every aspect shines because of the care poured into it. This game is truly wonderful and addicting. I love it.

The Track : 🎶The Red Sky - Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky DX OST🎶 ____________ [EN] My first experience with the Atelier series was this game. I wanted to start the year with something new and was eager to try some JRPG series I'd never played before. I wasn't expecting anything in particular, having no preconceived notions about the series, although I was a little skeptical about the somewhat generic anime art style, which didn't particularly appeal to me. But I'm so glad I tried something new, because it was a very enjoyable experience! The game's pacing is surprisingly well-designed: you complete a series of alchemical production requests in a slice-of-life, autumnal atmosphere. You quickly find yourself wanting to fulfill every single request and see that coveted "COMPLETE" stamp on your progress report. Alchemy, while a bit obscure at first, proves to be a deep and quite engaging system when it comes to producing items with specific attributes. I was a little put off by the combat at first, but it's just deep enough to avoid feeling tedious. My biggest surprise was the accessibility and cleverness of the menus for a game released in 2013 (and in a DX version in 2019). This might seem obvious for a game that relies so heavily on its menus, but I don't think it was a given for games of that era. In short, an excellent surprise on all fronts. Furthermore, the soundtrack really grabbed me, and I think I'll be spending a lot of time on 8-hour YouTube compilations like "Atelier Music to do alchemy to." I think this will be my annual treat, with the Ryza trilogy perhaps next year as my next. Thanks to Mage Icia for the thread that introduced me to this game! This was my introduction to series based on many recommendations. I was certainly not disappointed. As someone who absolutely does not love crafting in games, I was hesitant to get into it but it is very nicely done that I didn't mind it. The system has just enough depth and complexity without being too overwhelming. The combat is fairly simple and some side bosses absolutely required good knowledge of alchemy/crafting systems in order to beat as most of the game's scaling comes from crafted items. The story and overall setting is very nice and very grounded in reality (within the scope of game's world) that makes for no complaints. Overall, very solid and enjoyable title
