I'm not good at reviews, so I will say that I adore the Fate series, The first Fate was one of the only games I had growing up, and Traitor Soul has to be the best one. Below is information on accessing the first game's content. You can access the town of Grove and basically have the three first games in one. Go to the installation folder and follow the path listed below. FATE The Traitor Soul\REALMS\Grove\REALM\en-US\realms.dat In that realms.dat file, you will see "<LOCKED>:1". Change the 1 to a 0. You will see "<LEVEL>:0" below that. Change the 0 to a 1. You can now access the entirety of the first game's content.
NOTE: ONLY BUY FATE: THE TRAITOR SOUL AND FATE: THE CURSED KING! Fate: The traitor soul has Fate, Fate: Undiscovered Realms, and a new dungeon all connected to each over through the Temple of Fate. The game is much longer then is predecessor with between 32 and 42 hrs of gameplay depending on how quickly you want to finish the game. It should be noted that there are an infinite number of dungeon levels (3.4 billion) across the 5 realms. After the main questline though, its up to you on when you want to retire your character and create a descendant. It fixed all the issues that Fate: Undiscovered Realms had. There are no glitchy areas. All the realms do get difficult, but considering that you can take quests in the different realms, it makes it easy to gain strength at a reasonable pace to keep up with the difficulty. Your pet also has 2.5 times the space of the previous games. This is literally a lifesaver. The new weapons, armor, and monsters also add to the game. Now for the downsides. It's quite hard to get quests for the next floor you need to go to. Plan on taking quests for 2 or 3 floors past the next one. Does get frustrating. At some point, you basically cannot upgrade your weapons and armor until certain fate ranks. This does make the game a little frustrating as you have to rely on leveling up. Rating: 8.7/10 Pros: Average music 100+ different monsters Great weapon selection 5 realms to have fun in great time waster Perfect dungeon crawler for kids (no in-appropriate content) Cons: Not getting quests for the level you need Pet is always fleeing Very hard to get better equipment by the end of the main questline last 2 realms have no town Cannot leave portals in the last two realms at the same time. You must chose one.
Good but you should grab the remake.
This is actually literally the perfected gameplay loop. This is the only Fate game you need because it contains the first 2 and The Cursed King is a downgrade imo. Crashes a lot on win 11 but saving is very fast.
Still one of the best games ever all these years later. I remember it like it was yesterday being 13 years old and getting this game and installing it on my dads crappy work computer. every day after school for a long time this game was my world. Its very much its own game but comparable to diablo and hold up extremely well and has not aged a bit even if you dont have nostalgia for this game you will still love it. Also you can pretty much keep playing it forever grinding for levels and better gear
it crashes a lot so remember to save
Another Fate 2. This game has everything the first two games had, including the very first town and dungeon as optional areas. Unfortunately, the last parts of the game that make up the "Traitor Soul" exclusive stuff really ruined the whole thing for me. The game's story is as non-existent as the previous games, but it treats it like Undiscovered Realms' plot barely existed or just didn't at all, as if this game replaced it. You're going through the same exact dungeons and main quests as Undiscovered Realms, but the new "plot" doesn't reveal as much motivation for doing them. The game plays exactly like the previous two games with some additional features that make the gameplay a little more exciting, like the Rage attack to actually make Stamina a little more relevant, and more magic spells finally. There are now four playable races to choose from with pre-allocated bonus points to very clearly tell you what they naturally specialize in. In sticking to the spirit of the previous game's way of building characters, you can still build them into something else, like, the Half-Orc who's supposed to specialize in certain melee weapons can be a full magic caster instead if you really want. Like before, Hardcore and Legend difficulty get pretty satisfying once you go through the beginning hurdles. They've also made it easier than Undiscovered Realms' insane difficulty spikes in that enemies don't increase in levels as fast as you go down dungeon floor levels in this game. What ruins the game for me though are the final dungeons and general end-game stuff exclusive to this game. You apparently have to fight the final boss of the previous game again, but you can end the game without even having to deal with the "Traitor Soul" part. You have to be around character level 50 to even unlock the "Traitor Soul" quest, but the game does a horrible job of conveying that. When you do get to the "Traitor Soul" part, it again does a horrible job of letting you know that there's a real "Traitor Soul" part, and you apparently have to be at character level 100 to unlock it, which is an insanely horrible grind to reach unless you're on Legend/Hardcore difficulty where the XP gain is at its highest because enemy levels are very high themselves. This game also increased the number of dungeon floors you have to go through in general. That's not exactly a bad thing for the first parts of this game, but the last parts pretty much make you go through more than double the amount of dungeon floors as the first parts of the game altogether, strongly encouraging you to just rush to the descending stairs every floor to finally get to where the quests want. It doesn't help that the horrible map designs the previous games had make a return, too. All that said about the progression and final parts of the game, you don't actually have to care about it all. You can just dive into the semi-infinite dungeons and build your character as usual without even having to worry about the main quests, especially since they're treated like standard quests anyway and you can keep playing the game even after doing them; it's like this for the first two games, too. The final semi-infinite dungeon itself can't be unlocked until you do most of the main quests though. Dungeon diving and character building are the biggest appeals of the game, and if that's all you want to do, then Traitor Soul is probably actually the best Fate game for that with how much dungeon variety and new gameplay mechanics there are compared to the previous two entries. This game has a lot of cool things added, but how they handled the final bits of progression or whatever really keeps me from wanting to touch it again. I'd rather just stick to re-playing the first and second games for their all-around simplicities, which I always thought were their strongest points.
great game for a little chill
