Long ago, in a magical town filled with witches... There was one particular witch, Astragalus, who opened an apothecary. Astragalus' magic was good for raising plants. And she had always studied medicine... so this seemed like the natural thing for her to do.
She had no particular interest in running a shop, nor did she have a personality suited to it. But she wanted to distribute her medicine.... and this was the most direct way for her to do just that.

Note: A totally awesome friend gifted me a copy of this game. ^^
Growing plants has never been more relaxing, and there's a story! :o

Introduction
Astra's Garden is a cozy, idling game with visual novel elements developed and published by NomnomNami. You're Astragalus (Astra, for short), the owner of an apothecary who grows plants used for magical, medicinal purposes. As Astra studied medicine, it only seems fitting that she'd run a shop to grow plants and distribute medicine to magical customers. Even though Astra just wants to operate her business quietly, she keeps getting visits from her brother, Cassava (Cass, for short), and a couple of interesting customers with their own sets of problems. Also, Astra keeps getting calls from her mom to come home. What's Astra to do? lol With the gameplay, you grow plants in Astra's shop, making sure to water them. Each unique plant has a certain amount of time before it fully blooms, but you can use charms to make growing plants more convenient. You earn money as you click on fully grown flowers as well as click on random customers who come into the shop. To progress the story, you have to grow a certain number of particular flowers. There's the main story as well as an epilogue. Steam achievements are included, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game".
Review
NomnomNami's games have a lovely charm that warms my heart. Ever since I played and reviewed her tears were my light, I just had a feeling that I would want to play more of this developer's game. (I have quite a bit of catching up to do on that. XD) Anyway, I noticed this latest release, and thanks to a wonderful friend, I got the chance to play it and share my thoughts. ^^
Story and Gameplay
The story gives off a relaxed, laidback atmosphere, which is perfect for this game. I adore Astra as the main character. She just wants to run her business and not worry about family drama. However, the frequent calls from her mom and visits from Cass don't help. Without going too much into spoiler territory, I'll just say that there's quite a big twist in regards to Cass, which blew me away when I found out but it ended up making sense. As I mentioned earlier, there are a couple of noticeable customers, such as Periwinkle, who's constantly trying to find ways to stay awake, and Vinegar, who has the undeath virus. I should note that parts of the story deal with terminal illness and death, so it's understandable to be sensitive of such topics. Personally, I feel like these topics were handled well without forcing certain beliefs on anyone. (Some people could learn from this.) I like how the main story ends and the epilogue feels like a fitting conclusion. It gives off warmth and sweetness, making me feel happy that Astra resolved all her problems. With the gameplay, it's very fun and engaging. Despite it being an idle game, you have to tend to the flowers fairly frequently since the growth time isn't too long. Although flowers need to be watered, you don't get penalized if you're late in doing so. The charms that you can place on flower pots help a lot to speed up the growth and such although they'll require the currency that you earn from growing plants to do so. You can grow flowers without ever using charms, but the charms are very helpful. (Also, a particular Steam achievement requires the use of charms.) As for achievements, they're all obtainable in one playthrough. It took me over an hour to 100% complete the game, but I could have sped up the time if I had used charms more often.
Art and Music
The art style is very cutesy, which is pretty much a signature in all of NomnomNami's games. It feels very appropriate for this game, and I like how cute the sprites are and how beautiful the flowers are. There's just the right combination of colors, and I love the whole magical shop theme that's going on. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3735940366 In regards to the music, a couple of tracks are present, one for when you're growing flowers and another for the story parts. They're very relaxing and soothing to listen to, perfect for a cozy game. Also, they're all instrumental in nature. The music volume can be a bit on the slightly quieter side, but you can increase the volume.
Conclusion
Would I recommend Astra's Garden? If you're looing for a cozy, idling game with a heartwarming, emotional story, you're ok with delving into sensitive topics, you enjoy relaxing gameplay, and/or you just like getting those Steam achievements, then this is totally worth a try. The game is on the short side but very enjoyable. I enjoy NomnomNami's works a lot, so I feel like they're worth the price, but you can choose to wait for a sale. ^^
For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^
As much as I like Nami's previous games, I for once feel underwhelmed by my purchase: there just isn't enough meat on the bone for 5 bucks. The gameplay is really rudimentary and the story, while touching, doesn't offer the depth I found and appreciated in the author's other games. I'm aware the game is available for free on the author's Itch.io page and so are some of the other games purchasable on Steam, but the additional content just isn't worth the spend, and said other games are cheaper and / or have more to offer. Only buy the game if you really wanna support the dev.

Very cute game! I've enjoyed growing the flowers :3 I do wish we could sell the flowers tho, or do something with them once we've grown them, that would have been cool! (unless we can and I've missed it? QwQ) Simple and relaxing, utilise the charms effectively and that should speed up your progress! Otherwise, I've actually been meaning to play it ever since I got it off Itch.io sometime last year, but I forgot about it :sob: Now that it's on Steam I've bought it and finally finished it! Definitely worth the money :3
i wouldn't say the new mechanics make it a "totally different experience than the free version" at all, and i expected so as well from seeing the gameplay trailer. but i bought the game anyways, reset my data, and played through the whole thing again and i dont regret it. i dont think astra's garden has good gameplay or much content but i love this game, and it hit me just as hard on the second playthrough even though i remember the plot from my playthrough a year ago. im happy to support the creator.
I really like how it explores death and illness in such a cute way. 3/4
Nami's games are always a delight to play - this was short & sweet, very nice for spending a cozy afternoon with! I enjoy seeing her experiment a lot with creating functional games in Ren'Py, with very intuitive design for both growing the plants & tending to the customers, having both sides of the screen having something to watch out for keeps engagement so well. I do with we had a few more plants to unlock, as I do love the plant designs in this artstyle, but I will also note that all plants are story relevant in one way or another - a small detail I do appreciate a lot, making it all come together neatly. Speaking of the story - as a chronically ill person, this game heavily resonated with me, and love how carefully it was handled by the narrative. I find a lot of stories of this genre are usually a bit preachy, but this one actually spoke with a certain level-headness of how some chronically ill people might feel like giving up and not demonizing them for it (without spoiling too much). Overall I really liked this game, loved the entire cast, and cannot wait to see what else Nami has cooked for us!
Let's be fair : it's simple, so simple it's pretty close to a graphic novel... but you know what ? The vibe is very soothing for something that talk about a tough subject. I wish there would be more endings, I wish I could have more agency on the story, I wish I had more gameplay and plants... but I have Potionomics for all that xD. Instead THIS, this is a little bubble of story telling with cute art and good vibes. Love it <3
잔잔하게 받아드리는 죽음 혼자서 선택한 안락사는 이기적인 선택인가 딱히 게임성은 없음 근데 부사병 걸린소녀는 어떻게 됐는데
This was not a good game to play while going through a rough time helping mum navigate her chronic illness. Fantastic game though! Very sweet. I love Astragalus (I received this as a key through my girlfriend who had keys from NomnomNami's patreon. I think this sold me on their stories :D)
