In its current stage, it is objectively broken and I can't recommend it. Also, it does not have a lot of content and is still adding in barely anything more than the demo despite being delayed multiple times. When you lose all of your life, a continue screen is supposed to flash red and then play, saving your score and giving you data points if you decide to not continue. Data points unlock extra credits and skins. The demo's death screen worked flawlessly. This does not work at all in this release, meaning the game keeps soft locking whenever you die until you randomly respawn with the game still playing out everything in the background. This can take upward of two minutes of watching everything go past you or bosses timing themselves out and dying on their own. You can pretty much just walk away from your computer and come back with all the stages having cleared themselves, and it doesn't even give you data points for it. It is 100% replicable and a very common bug. The latest patch that says it fixes it has not fixed it. The game itself? It's very fun. A less ball-busting crimzon clover two-hyper system mixed with blue revolver style sub weapon chaining, where your sub weapon usage clears bullets around you so you have to decide if you want to use it more offensively as often as you can or to save it for sticky situations. Good music, kinda goofy but still charming enough art design, challenging boss patterns, different playstyles and movement between ships, it's got a lot of good things. If you want to play this game, the free demo created over 2 years ago (and also at the same time, the developer on their twitter stated they were "almost done" with the entire game, and then proceeded to make several one-off itch.io games in a row with more priority I guess) is a much more functional experience while you're waiting for the paid version to actually be playable. Assault Shell 1 is also a great game, but my faith in this developer took a big hit from how shoddy this one released as.
It doesn't work! https://youtu.be/UvZYGJHcwJA and https://youtu.be/PoG9lkxApS4 I loved AS1, but I can't say this is a good showing, refunded.
Bought this and refunded cause it was unplayable a while back. However, the devs have updated it and ironed out alot of bugs and it now plays very well IMHO. The game is superb, graphics, sound and above all gameplay. Hope they keep at it.
