Ashen Arrows is a rouge-like wave-defense first-person VR adventure-game, where the player defends their base from continuous waves of varied enemies as an Archer. Use different skills, arrows, modifiers from your roster, and choose different approaches to deal with your foes - the possibilities are endless - every round, every run is different! So go for the "god-run", or just play through the atmospheric, narrated story mode's first maps, introducing the saga of a heroic hunter, and their mighty quest towards the end of the world!
- Saga mode -
With three, narrated, scenic tutorial maps - teaching the basics of movement and combat, game-mechanics and tactics - the players are introduced to the story of a heroic hunter and their mighty quest, soon to be unfold in further updates as the game improves and grows.
- Bastion mode -
This mode currently features 4 maps of different realms from north mythology, but will include much more in further updates - It focuses on infinite replayability, thanks to the roguelike elements incorporated into the gameplay, consisting of randomized skill-pool, loot, enemies, modifiers and so on. Go for the "god-run"!
- CO-OP mode -
The co-op gameplay allows up to three players to join forces and play together, with the option to engage in the Bastion game mode. Playing with friends offers a completely different and enjoyable experience, because it adds an element of teamwork and coordination that can make the gameplay more exciting.
The Saga mode has been designed to be a single-player experience only.
- Player customization -
The players are able to customize their banners, by selecting from a range of colors, icons, and borders. Additionally, the appearance of players is customizable as well. This allows you to showcase to your co-op teammates what kind of Viking you truly are!
- Varied options for gameplay -
Different skills and modifiers for your bow help achieve a different play-style every run!
Utilize passive defense like barricades, traps, and base-repairing skills to stabilize your progress.
Ask the Gods for their favor, and they shall aid you in form of blessings and effects based on chance, potentially giving the upper edge in tight situations.
Alter the battleground with environmentals like barrels, fire or lightning for your advantage - this range of reactive environments might also be expanded in the future!
Different maps feature different enemies - discover and use counter-tactics against them, to adapt best to the current situation!
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & review here: https://youtu.be/akYWqwDdyi8 Well, I have to admit that I am not happy with what was done in Steam Early Access in this case. It seems the developer took Steam Early Access to mean that it was Meta Quest Port time versus adding new content to the game. I do have to give credit to the devs though, they did a small update for the final release (the first one since 2023). I think the update added a cat hunt mini-game and some tweaks to the gameplay. The story mode still only has the prologue and the first chapter. If you look at the UI of story mode "saga mode" then you'll see two empty spots where Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 should be. Promises made, promises not kept. The sad part is that I think story mode, while not great, gave the game some personality. The other mode is the tower defense mode. If you're a PCVR veteran, then you've probably played a dozen of these. This version of the archery TD game is simply a competent arcade version with low production values. It's got those Synty- looking Humble Bundle 3D low polygon type generic assets. Although, I have to admit, the environments / maps of the different parts of this game do actually look good. So the devs did a nice job of putting them together. At the end of the day though, the quality and quantity of the content, do not match the retail price. This should be at most, a $9.99 USD game. Why would you play this when games like Elven Assassin or QuiVR did it better back in 2016/2017 PCVR? Sometimes I feel like Steam VR is going backwards in quality and I'm an old man yelling at the sky with these subpar Steam VR releases out of Early Access. Rate 5.5/10. Buy on deep sale only recommendation!
I bought this game! [Reviewed using a Reverb G2] My favourite games tend to trend toward co-op and PvE and the ideal is when I can be fully loaded-in and playing a game-- all within 60 seconds of booting it. With Ashen Arrows, it takes less than 30 seconds. This game is a great time, solo or with friends! It boots quickly, supports drop-in/out multiplayer for groups of three, has a story mode solo campaign, is fully ambidextrous and it has a LOT of character. There's already a sizeable amount of unique skills and enemies spread across multiple multiplayer maps with optional Hardcore modifiers to keep things interesting for veterans while new content is developed. There's more that I didn't mention, but it's worth checking out the demo and then trying the full game if you find the gameplay mechanics to your liking. I'd definitely say this is worth picking up while it's in Early Access because you'll have plenty to keep you and your friends entertained while more content is released. Full Disclosure:: I answered an open-call for Beta Testers on the Discord, which is how I received my key for free. I had a lot of fun helping the team playtest/locate/log/recreate/squash bugs in the weeks leading up to release. I had over 8hrs logged on the demo when I applied to playtest, now currently sitting at somewhere over 46hrs on the full game because I enjoy playing it even when I'm not testing, loll. ^_^
Ashen Arrows: VR, mitológia, íjászat, coop, roguelike. Mi kell még?
Experienced on the Valve index
The story mode for this game is very good, the level design, audio and narration are all very well done. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are so many unlockable upgrades for your bow and arrow that I lost count, once you finish the story mode, you can play the defence mode solo, or with up to 3 players. Here is my live stream of the defence mode and the full story mode so far, contains spoilers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ_lK_Nmb7w&t=6687s
I loved the demo and so I am very happy that it was finally released. It is addictive, beautiful and no bugs or glitches to be found.
Had to pleasure of working on this gem with the dedicated, small team behind it - lots of work and fun, passion and creativity went into this and I'm proud to recommend it to anyone interested - any feedback is welcome! Good luck, have fun! Skól!
I always wanted to have a VR game like《Ashen Arrows》, the Nordic story of is bitterly fun and full of mystery. The TD + adventure gameplay works so well. Not only can I experience a fully story, but I can also play tower defense strategically. I will definitely spend more time on this game.
Addictive Archery Tower Defence Game!
Its a tower defense game. You are an archer stopping hoards while also upgrading skills to keep them at bay. IF you like how that sounds scoop up the game.
Un jeu très sympa mais dommage qu'il ne soit pas traduit en français car il est difficile pour moi de comprendre à quoi sert chaque item.
