«Archamon»
Firstly, this isn't so much a review as it is my first thoughts- which you can see in my video in more detail. https://youtu.be/SQNys-PoT3Y I think it's a real shame that this game doesn't seem to have as much interest from the community as it deserves. So far I am really enjoying it; mix Settlers, Powermonger and Banished together and you will have a reasonable idea of what this game is about- I am only 6 hours in and don't really feel I have scratched the surface. This is a decent village building game with elements of conquest- which might take a little bit of learning for anyone unfamiliar with using the arrow keys to navigate- but I really think it deserves a lot more attention, I hope when I look back here or update my 'review' I find my words here are swamped beneath a ton of other reviews. Thanks for your time and If you try the game I hope you enjoy.
Archamon is a RTS/City builder hybrid where you build an village, micromanage harvesting materials like stone, wood, metals, fend off wild animals and fight enemy villagers with your soldiers. The principle of the game here is quite good, and there's quite some depth with the economic production chains. The graphics are reasonable and the game works in 4K. There's a series of graphics customisability options as well. The key problems are the game is a little clunky and lacks polish. The game mechanics are confusing and it's not laid out well enough to be intuitively playable. The game crashes/freezes if you alt+tab, which is a recommendation killer. Also, the price of $16.95 is a little too high for what we get here. It's close, and I wish there was a "maybe" option, but I have to give this a regretful thumbs down. Edit: The developer had someone contact me and try to bribe me with game keys to give this a positive review. Talk about dodgy. While that does nothing to change the problems with the game, it does show the developer lacks integrity, and prospective buyers should be warned that if they buy products from unethical developers, their money can be at risk.
This 500mg game is way too expensive for what it is. The game run runs poorly. The bright green eye burning colour of the landscape vanish after about 5 seconds of game play and leaves an even more eye burning white void in its place. WSAD keys arnn't a default setting. Game is just annoying from start to the 10 minutes of frustrated finish. Refunded Edit: Apparently the landscape was bugged and is said to be fixed. This is a good thing. It is still a little too expensive in my opinion but maybe with more content or on a steam special I would give it another go.
I can say this game is awesome! I can make tools and weapons and i can recruit siege units. To gather food (Survival) is one of the main core of this game and i can build vegetables, pig farms, bread. i can prospect to find iron stone gold. You need to build keep for your lord to have rank. You can build market and buy/sell goodies to your local trader. I can build well to loadup the fire tower to prevent fires and such. This game have an very clever AI system. This game have gamemodes like.. I can play with strong NPCs/AIs or i can play "Builder Mode" so builder mode is like i can do whatever i want and i can enable an option to have every 2 years to be attacked from barbarians. Another element when it winter comes there is wolfs to attack your people. The only bad is the people is a bit buggy like they have a strange movement... I totally recommend this game and worth its money! And another thing.. The Developers is very friendly and they are active on forums and they can solve your probelms/issues.
An attempt to create a hybrid between Settlers and Crusaders. As often - great idea ruined by poor implementation. Buggy game mechanics and awful unit control and AI makes this game barely playable and its military aspect useless.
What Stronghold 3 could have been.
This game was recommended to me by someone on my Steam friends list and I’m glad that I gave it a chance. Archamon is a city builder which feels like its stuck in the late 90s/early 2000s, for better or worse. It’s also kind of like a budget version of Banished, but a bit more fun. If either of those two things sound bad to you, you might be easily scared away from this game. If you’re willing to give it a shot, though, you might enjoy Archamon. The first thing to address is the graphics. This game looks old and there’s no getting around that. I find it to be kind of charming in a nostalgic sort of way. Larger towns and cities begin to look like controlled chaos straight out of a forgotten city builder or simulation game like Chris Sawyer’s Locomotion. There are also seasons that change the landscape; fall especially looks oddly pretty. The only part that I find truly garish is the winter setting, which is somewhat blinding. I’m not sure how the winter colors could be fixed, but I do think they need work. Archamon really shines in its town building gameplay. There are several different modes, including a builder mode. This mode is surprisingly relaxing; you can let your townspeople gather resources and construct buildings while you sit back and further plan towns. Since you can modify the difficulty to turn off enemies, there isn’t much in the way of micromanaging on lower difficulties. It’s also a great podcast game in that regard, which is fine since the music isn’t really that memorable. If you do want to micromanage your village, building a network of towns and forts is pretty fun. There are tutorials for all the basics and they’re useful. Sometimes the dialogue boxes get a little too full, but overall, this game isn’t too difficult to understand if you finish the tutorials. Other modes focus more on combat, which isn’t particularly engaging. I’m not sure how to improve the combat but it feels like it could use more polish and focus on control groups like in Age of Empires II. Two modes, the barbarian fortress and with enemies modes, rely on combat, seeking out enemy settlements to conquer. Barbarian raids, on the other hand, function more like a tower defense mode, which is an interesting gameplay choice. Unfortunately, the jankiness of the combat makes these modes less fun to play than the far more relaxed builder mode. There’s also a hardcore challenge mode that I didn’t try. As for the option quality, it also feels a little old. The setup menu could also scare you away if you’re playing it for the first time. Every time you complete a tutorial or want to switch to a different save, you’re sent back to a settings launcher outside of the rest of the game. It does offer a variety of graphical options, though, including support for ultrawide monitors. I did have some crashing trouble related to going full screen in game, but I was able to fix that from the launcher menu. I also experienced a crash while using the landscaping tool but thankfully haven’t been able to recreate it. It seems like a lot of the crashing issues others mentioned have possibly been fixed; I didn’t encounter any rendering issues and never experience alt-tab crossing, but I may have just been lucky. Look, if you can get past the eurojank and enjoy city builders, you should try Archamon. Keep in mind that this was developed by a small Czech team and is still actually receiving updates. The last update was apparently released in February 2021, and it’s great to see a nearly four-year-old game still get updates.
