About
Apoapsis is a passion project developed in 18 days.
Traverse a large alien world and destroy aliens, bosses, collect items, and [soon to come, more things to do]. I would love to expand on Apoapsis to make it a more complete game, and polish it further. The pricing doesn't reflect the current game, but a larger game in mind.
This can be considered a 15 minute Metroidvania. It is designed so you can rush through it, yet why wouldn't you want to upgrade your health and stamina along the way? The graphics, coding, music and everything is all made by me, XPI Sigma Art.
What to expect: 4 hidden hp upgrades. 10 hidden stamina upgrades, 3 bosses
Known bugs:
-Collision issues while player gets hurt
-Monitors with a refresh rate over 60 makes game appear too fast (Fixed!)
-Game slowdown (displays 60fps, yet doesn't reflect it)
This game won't receive any further support from me, but feel free to follow my itch.io page (search XPISigmaArt)

If I were using a different standard, such as “Most impressive game made in 18 days” I’d probably be a lot more favorable in my judgment; for what it is, Apoapsis is very impressive. Looking at it as a Mini-Metroidvania with a $5 price tag though, it’s still a fun game – in fact it barely has time to become boring. It’s still kind of a broken game however, and that’s a much harder sell to me. At the start, you’re immediately thrown into the action on a quest to find out where you’re supposed to go. You’re given two types of laser – a short ranged burst and a long range attack that can only be fired on the ground. As far as I can tell they both deal the same amount of damage, so really the only thing stopping you from using the long ranged attack is the ground restriction and the energy bar. Every attack takes up energy, preventing you from spamming attacks. It’s a good system, and if the enemies were more complex the combat system in Apoapsis could be developed to be very dynamic. You can also use this energy to fly for a brief amount of time, and if you find more energy elements within the game’s world, you can get some great height out of it. Once you find power ups that let you progress further in the game, it’s a little difficult to find out where to apply them since the game does not provide any map system. Also, because the game has only one tileset everything looks pretty samey. While the game is advertised as a 15 minute game, I spent a good 20 minutes wandering in circles going into it blind. Eventually I found my way to each of the game’s bosses, and two of the three were pretty easily cheesed by the ranged attack. This is especially disappointing for the game’s final boss, but then maybe it's for the better that it was too easy. The loop of death and trying again which is usually a normal part of challenging gameplay is somewhat stunted by how the game shut down to my desktop every time it had to load – making it more frustrating than it probably would be otherwise. In the current build, loading transitions in general are handled with little grace. Even if technical issues weren’t forcing the image to fail each time, there was no clear indication that I would be transitioning to another area – you just sort of teleport where the game wants you to be next. It can be somewhat confusing in the endgame. Even with the technical issues and lack of meaningful content though, Apoapsis is still a fun little game. I can’t really judge the amount of effort that went into it because the developer clearly discloses that it wasn’t given enough time to make it anything more than it is on both its store page and in the opening loading screens of the game. The fact that the level design and bosses are as good as they are is a testament that the developer clearly has talent. I would just feel bad putting this game up with more polished and complete experiences, and it’s difficult to recommend at a $5 price point (Or even with the game’s launch discount.) 2 out of 5

Two years ago — H-content will be there later. @ One year — Still thinking about new features. @ Somewhere later — "Jiggle animations; Suggestive artwork". No this is not an excuse to act like content is here, or it's coming soon. Yeah, it's cheap af, but as the game itself it generally not even close to be decent, whole sell-point was H-content promised to be later, and two years after it's still not here, dev is probably dead when it comes to any kind of communication. So no, it's not coming, don't buy this.
Note: Paying 4.99, full price for this on itch.io before the Steam release, and then waiting only to find the price is knocked down to 2.99, just angers me because there is no reason to knock down the price, unless the developer knew this game was not worth 4.99 at all! - Although on the itch.io page, there were mentions of extra down-the-road content, that still doesn't justify the current price at 2.99 as of launch. (Link To itch.io page): chrome-cloak-games.itch.io/apoapsis - This game as of launch (Feb. 26, 2019) isn't worthwhile content-wise. It has as much content as many free side-scrolling online flash games you can find on Newgrounds. Yet as stated in the description, it will take a person ONLY about 15 minutes just to get through it. However, there is basically ZERO replayability, and ALMOST nothing was changed from the itch.io release, which was made for the Ludum Dare 43 game jam about 1 month ago. - Considering that there are other games out there, even on Steam that are 2.99 or less that contain more than 15 minutes of content, this game doesn't hold up well comparatively, e.g. Downwell for about 1.00 USD. It's probably in your best interest to spend 2.99 elsewhere until more content for this game comes out. Also, I noticed that the Steam release is somehow more buggy than the itch.io release. The following I noted during my playthrough: -Pressing z while mid-air (in the Steam release, not itch.io) causes the ending screen to show up. I have no idea why this occurs, (maybe some debugging the developer was doing that they forgot to remove?) -Buttons for cheats and other stuff are not locked until the player beats the game. For example, you can get 6 units of HP and 12 units of stamina from pressing a certain key on your keyboard. - The AI in this game is broken, it's not engaging when you easily find how the AI seem to not react or do anything when off-screen or very close to the edge of the screen. - (*Spoilers)
Entering the last boss room is basically the point of no-return, either you have at least 7 to 8 units of stamina to properly do the last part of platforming after the boss fight itself, otherwise you're stuck as you don't have enough stamina to perform 2 boosts, and hover for about 2 - 3 seconds. If you manage to find yourself in this situation, it's best to not waste time and just restart at the save point before the boss fight and do some more exploration, or just use the cheats given to the player.
- Even if this game isn't worthwhile, there is undoubtedly a solid foundation for a much larger and expanded action-packed 2D side-scrolling adventure here, if the developer wants to create a worthwhile experience, he could start off with creating a story, not too complicated, simple yet interesting to move the player through a large variety of environments, along with more power-ups, though these power-ups should have an uniqueness to them to separate the experience from other side-scrolling games.
A short, challenging but fun Metroidvania style shooter! This really tests your skills and doesn't pull any punches, starting you off with very limited resources. However if you're a veteran at these types of games it's not hard to find all the secret power ups to make your sexy space adventurer stronger and more equipped to face this hostile planet filled with strange creatures! Try to expand your HP as soon as possible, otherwise you're going to see the game over screen a lot! If you have 20 minutes to kill this is a great buy for a short burst of fun!
For 0'79 it's a pretty cool minivania, though it definitely lacks a lot of polish. I faced a lot of bugs and an achievement won't pop up, and I would be pretty mad if I paid 5 bucks, as it seems this game did a while ago, but for its price I can't say I wasn't entertained. A pity it seems like it won't receive more support, because if this was polished, refined and expanded we could have a pretty cool metroid-like in our hands.
垃圾玩意也敢妄称「Metroidvania」,千万别上当! 主界面只有new game可用,不能设置不能改键位,默认键位反人类还没提示,按Z就变一幅画然后定住了然后就报错。
