A great game but only for a limited audience. Anoxia station is a turn-based game that settles somewhere between horror, survival and base building. You lead a mining expedition that drills deep way below the earth's surface to find great riches, but encounters only horror and misery on their way. You can either play the story campaign with multiple connected missions or play a single mission that you can customize to your liking. There are three difficulties and you can choose if you want to have a time limit on your turns for extra pressure. The story campaign comes in rather short and I finished it in roughly 7 hours. The story itself is told between missions as well as in small events that pop up now and again during missions. The writing itself is good but the story will only ever give you small breadcrumbs of a narrative and leaves a lot of things totally ambiguous - though that fits the lovecraftian theme of the game quite well in a way. The story is supported by gorgeous visuals and a hauntingly good sound design. I would say the presentation in combination with the decent writing and the great atmosphere are the biggest selling points of the game. Less great is that the game has no sound options - not even a master volume - at all. There is also a lot of screen shaking and flickering, though these can be turned off. The gameplay is very janky and the game has the sometimes annoying tendency to only give you minimal information about almost anything which sadly includes even the tutorial. Expect a lot of trial and error in the beginning - though it gets better when you get the hang of it. RNG based mechanics also can and will ruin your day probably at least a few times. However, in a way this jank actually synergizes surprisingly nicely with the bleak and weird descent into madness that is this game's narrative. If you don’t mind spending 1 or 2 hours to figure out how this game works and you are into the setting & style of it, this game can be a diamond in the rough. However if you are unsure if you can get over the jank, I would highly recommend waiting for a sale.
very atmospeheric and unusual
A short and original game with decent gameplay time. Although campaign is not too long, it is more than enough. It does not bore you with unnecessary and repetitive content. Sound design, narrative elements (it is pretty limited though), dark atmosphere and simple game design are great. However, it can be hard to understand the game at first, but it should not be too much of a problem, since there isn't too much to learn. Only problem could be the RNG, since sometimes you can encounter multiple enemies with only one movement. So, you may have to repeat a couple times, but it was enjoyable for me. Lastly, the game has a great price at sales.
Entretenido y desafiante.
