heard about it online in a few spaces, figured id give it a go as it sounded and looked pretty neat. it scratches an itch i didnt know i had, or one i forgotten. its like halo, meets battlefront, and half life, with mechs and space battles. you can even breach hulls of larger ships and jump on with your team. no progression necessary, you get it all your equipment from the start like the old days. back when games were fun for the sake of fun. to top it all off you can play entirely offline with bots, another old school edition that i am super happy to have. it has retro style graphics, and done excellently. for those who dont like that, for whatever reason.... you just dont get it, you dont, and thats okay. go play something that costs 5 times as much and performs a fraction as well, with less content. like COD, or battlefront. you can be nincky minjaj or whatever. *suuuuuper* cool. but in my opinion the return of retro graphics in the face of expensive and ever advancing hardware requirements from the AAA AI slop games that are about to be pumped out by people who look at their player base with contempt like they are dumb consuming cattle, rather than beloved customers, is a nice change. a return to normality, and passion for gaming. no loots boxes, no crashes or burnt out GPUs/CPUs, low cost, engaging and varied gameplay, and simply fun. play with friends, or by yourself, or make new ones online. its a great time. and the best part is the fact that its feature complete, not early access. anything we get after this is a gift, honestly. these devs love their game, and games in general, and it shows.
It's a pretty good game, not gonna lie. You want space battles? It has it Capital ships? You got it Combined arms on the ground? Yep, absolutely! Do the devs listen to the community? Hell, they frequently talk to us too!
US servers are dead. Seen one EU server at 32/32 but the ping was 120+. I had no PVP experiences as I tried to find a decent server for this advertised multiplayer PVP game. If you enjoy controlling bots and playing against bots maybe give it a try.
Not in a good state yet. I wouldn't recommend this until several more QoL updates come out. Settings menu is in a completely anemic state. Not all crucial keybinds can be rebound (example I noticed just in my short time playing was the vehicle countermeasures keybind). Graphics menu could do with more customizable settings than *just* antialiasing. Graphically, there's virtually no visual clarity. It's hard to identify players against background elements, and there's a *lot* of UI clutter making things even more unreadable. It's hard to identify where a bubble shield is, so I'll be magdumping into thin air and not understanding why my shots aren't connecting. It was difficult to understand *where* was out of bounds or why. One part of an open facility that makes for good firefights was perfectly okay to stand in, but a few steps further in an otherwise open area and I'm taking tick damage without understanding why. The UI fails to convey *important* information while overloading you with unimportant info. The gunplay is *okay*. Feels like planetside with more toys (notably leaning around corners). This unfortunately still isn't great as a basis, as it feels just as feels clunky, unfun, and unresponsive. It needs a lot of work to get to a more enjoyable state. I love the concept, and I want to play it, but I just haven't been able to enjoy the execution yet. I'm going to take more time to play it and hope it grows on me, but my first impression of this game was a bad one. It inherits all the flaws of the era in which it was developed that seriously *should* have been ironed out 10 years afterward.
Fun game, but really really rough around the edges. Like, how is there no report feature? Someone dropping racial slurs and there isn't even a way to report that? The vote-to-kick feature didn't even work.
This game is for specific audiences. I'm not the audience. There is ALOT in this game the feel of the gameplay is nice it really is. But its TOO much, its to the point of being bogged down by too many menus and customization. Its overwhelming for a general audience. I really want to like this game but I don't have the ADHD brain for this.
I absolutely love this game! It scratches that Star wars Battlefront II (the old one!) vibe I totally have forgotten about. I am really blasted away by this game. I did not know that I can have soooooo much fun playing with bots. Worlds better than every triple AAA shooter I skipped the last few years, lol. Absolute gem, probably even the game of my year!
Scratches that Planetside 2 itch just right.
This game is the best parts of old Battlefield and Battlefront games put into one.
Battlefront 2 (2005), expanded. That's what this game is. It feels and plays very closely to that game but pretty much everything you can think of has taken a drastic step up. First-person view isn't completely crap, Infantry classes now have customizable loadouts, the tactical squads from Battlefield are here, the singleplayer bots are much, much better at providing a challenge. The ground and air vehicles are also spawned in with a pop-up exactly like the heroes from Battlefront 2 are, whether you're a fan of that or not (I don't mind it that much). However, playing on the space maps was where my will to play Battlefront 2 (2005) died entirely. In that game, space battles were little more than taking off in a ship and bum-rushing to destroy an enemy's cruiser components, and singleplayer battles were essentially just flying around to kill the modules yourself until you were instakilled by an cruiser autoturret (or a fighter, if you're really, really lucky). Angels Fall First went leaps and bounds ahead to make that formula actually fun in too many ways to count. The main cruisers have large and explorable interiors, fighters will now be killing you most of the time, there's extra heavy ships like destroyers and such, and most notably, the AI CAN ACTUALLY USE DROPSHIPS TO LAND ON THE ENEMY CRUISER. This was NOT at all present in 2005 BF2 and I'm so glad that it is here, it's almost hilarious that indie devs were able to make this work in their off time when EA was too chicken to try this with either of their Battlefronts. As one final note, the developers are A+ in responsiveness. I swear they have like 3 or 4 developers who read the discussions AND actively reply to them AND implement changes to the game based on them (most recently with the knife nerfing, also with reported crashes in the past). If enough people start reporting something, it has a much greater chance of being fixed with the AFF devs than any other game. So in short, buy it if you like Battlefront. Their updates are kind of slow but you will be greatly rewarded when they do arrive.
