TL:DR - Only buy when on sale and only if you really want it because this game has so much forced padding it becomes a chore. It is fun but only for some time. + Cute design + Fun + VS + Level maker - Forced to repeat levels - Online VS is broken - No window mode (Open the game with DXWnd if you want window mode) MAIN STORY -------------- The game is fun I will give it that, I enjoyed the levels however I did not like the path choosing. You are forced to repeat Level 1 every single time you do a set path. There are 4 goals in total so you need to play Level 1 at least 4 times and that is if you don't choose the wrong pathway to a goal you already done! (You cannot view the worldmap so hope you have Google images open) I don't like this type of "padding", I want to choose my levels willingly not be forced to play stage 1 or 2 of the first two levels in each section just to get to a pathway I not done yet. Like to point out the stages do not take long to complete but it is still annoying to force us to do the same level so many times. VS --- I have only played VS with bots, because Online VS is a bit broken to where you cannot connect to anyones port even if you give them the number the game tells you to give them. VS is fun though even with the bots. They tend to mess up a lot but when they have 2x point bonus it canbe challenging. I do find it fun that not only do you need to be fast to get points but need to not get tripped up, stepped on or fall into holes otherwise you lose points. My only issue with it is, when you are too slow or fall off the map you spawn into a bubble above the stage to where bots have done this just before the finish line, popped their bubble and landed on my head, stealing the +1000 points for the final goal, I find this so bloody cheap that if timed correctly anyone can steal it. A few times a bot has fell off the map only for their spawn bubble to put them JUST ahead of the finish line making them automaticly getting the goal points. I wish I could get Online VS to play, not only for the achievements but I can see Online VS being a lot more fun than facing bots specially against players who know what they are doing. I hope someone finds a solution because that would make the game worth buying IMO. For now though, do not buy it full price. This is a port of a mobile game and looks to have been abandoned. No updates, they just stuck it on PC and ignored anyone for the missing/broken features. Heck there is such lack of information the forums tend to be empty with posts from last year being at the top. There is not even any guides for the game by other players, showing how unloved the game is. I really want to give this game a Yes but looking at it from other people's viewpoints, I cannot, they would not enjoy it for long. The achievement rates for this game are this low because people just lose motivation to play the game so quickly.
Angel Express would have been a much more fun game had it worked smoothly for me. To start, Angel Express is a platforming/linear/racing game that you have to race against the clock and do laps or against other players. That is essentially the core of the game. There are powerups, boosts, obstacles, and other things of the sort. Having played Recettear and Chantelise, which this game is related to I think, I appreciated certain aspects of the game, such as the gems to collect. The actual gameplay is relatively fun for some time, especially if you can get some friends to play with you. Now on to the bad. The game crashed on launch the first time I played it, and it will still crash every now and then. However, that isn't as big a problem since it boots relatively fast. The biggest problem for me was that the game was ultra slow. I don't know why, but it was just slow, laggy, and off timing almost always. I even turned all settings to the lowest, which I should have to do, and it still ran slow. This made playing the game quite a bit less fun. Also relating to the slowness, it'd always take around 1 minute for a level to load or end, and this delay was quite frustrating. Overall, not a bad game, but buggy for me. If it wasn't buggy, I would give this a recommend, however, it was quite difficult to play for me so I will not for now. If they change that, I will change my review. Rating: 6.3/10 (higher if they fix the slowness and buggs) Recommend Price: $1.49 or below
If you enjoyed this review, please consider following my Curator Page Nep's Gaming Paradise (Nepiki Gaming) for more reviews!

Nepiki's Stats

Overall length 5-7 hours for the true ending, 20 hours for completion (due to there being a 20 hour playtime achievement).

Overall difficulty Medium difficulty.

Overall score ★★★☆☆

Review
While Angel Express has a very cutesy artstyle, story and a surprisingly good OST, there is nothing else that makes it a must play. The gameplay overall functions and is fun, but it's very easy to lose momentum, which is not helped by multiple unpredictable dead-ends. Of course you can get past them if you have a boost, keyword being if. And to beat the story you have to go through it at least 7 times, starting from the same stage every single time. A single playthrough till one ending doesn't take very long, and when revisiting a stage you are able to play only one of two to continue, but it does get tiresome to go through the same stages over and over. The stage builder is a fun diversion, but online capabilities are limited so don't expect to get too much use out if. Not to mention how buggy the game is when it comes to completion/achievements. I won't deny that I had my fun with this game, but I doubt I'll revisit it any time soon.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/470480/
Awful mario copy, might be good for kids but for most only worth it for the trading cards
Copied from my refund request thread: Online play does not seem to work. Windowed mode doesn't work and the game crashes when alt+tabbing from fullscreen mode Things that I didn't list but that I found irritating: One of the level objectives is "Collect all the gems" but then shown in the objective text on the corner once the level begins is "Key not found" and then collecting all the gems doesn't complete the level. It ends after lap 3 with the message "Failed - Key not found". What is the key? There is no key on the level. What am I supposed to do to get this key? Who knows, I sure don't. Online multiplayer (If it were working) is not done like other games where you type in an IP and Port into the game window, instead you have to make a text file in the game files that it reads data from. This is really inconvenient and I noticed the dev said something [[Edit: almost a year ago from this review]] about making a lobby system but there has been no word in the [[Edit: Year]] since. Honestly the controls were fine and the concept is super fun and the art is cute but the AI is braindead so I really just wanted to play with other people. When that is fixed I might consider a re-purchase. Notes and Links: Link to Dev Statement on online lobbies: http://steamcommunity.com/app/470480/discussions/0/353915309341708636/ Link to original refund thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/470480/discussions/0/217691032441018668/ Note the update log for this product is completely empty. In the year since the dev's last comment in the discussion forum there have been exactly 0 patches.
This is a linear platformer where you're supposed to race through each level several times in a row and try to rack up a high score by collecting items and stomping enemies. The level design is obnoxious and the controls are terrible. The art is nice, but there are so many issues and bugs that reading the dialogue is painful and you don't get to stop and enjoy the setting because you have to run forward constantly to beat the timer on the levels.

Running game with random level design. Graphics are poor, music is ok. About the gameplay... most of the time you don't have the required control over your character, since everybody is jumping on top of each other or map boosters are poorly placed. Jumps are moon-gravity slow. I think no testing at all went on those levels: they don't seem the type where you can learn your way and perfect it, you can even blow some blocks from the level or sabotage yourself with banana peels for the next lap. Story dialogs are just a filler. There is no story, just two characters babbling words. Difficulty: AI is bad, but shadow runs faster than you. Time is too tight when on time limit mode. Luckily, I got this game from a bundle.
