Experienced on the Oculus Rift
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/V-kG0Uygztk I know this game is in Early Access, but it was released in an unacceptable state. It feels like an alpha build, which is a shame because I enjoyed the original alpha demo for Anderson back in 2018. I thought it was a cool little puzzle game. This is a "story-driven" puzzle adventure game, but honestly there isn't much of a story or much of a game here. The game is barely playable. It's running on the Unity Engine. I finished the game in a little over 1 hour, while having to deal with several game-breaking bugs. You do have full locomotion (although a tad bit too slow) and smooth turning, as well as a teleportation option and a seated or standing mode option. I found the puzzles to be easy and the interactions to be poor. The game ran rather poorly on my 1060 GTX, even on the lowest graphical settings. I saw several graphical glitches as well, on top of some game-breaking bugs. The game just crashed on me at some point and I had to restart the entire level. I spawned in an area blocked by walls on all sides .... I had to restart the game to fix that issue. I had an object not spawn correctly after coming back from the main menu, because I had to leave to the main menu to fix another bug. The game had rather poor lighting and sounds as well. I thought the voice overs were nice though. This game does have promise and the developer seems to be working to fix the game. However, it's nowhere near an acceptable level for me to recommend, even in Early Access. I also think the price is too high given given the quality & the quantity of the content (even the planned one). Rate 4/10. Buy only to support the dev if you truly believe in this project. It may be a good game one or two years from now.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator connect program. I wanted to preface this review by saying I am physically unable to play a large majority of VR games due to nausea. This is not the case with Anderson. Anderson has a plethora of options for movement and its incredibly smooth and playable. The graphics are fantastic and stable (no visual bugs or artifacting). The game doesn't hold your hand but provides adequate indicators to keep you progressing. This has been a wonderful mystery/puzzle experience and I'm glad to have been able to play it. The game is priced fairly for the length of game play and I hope the developer succeeds and puts out more content!
Die K.I. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

 Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
English: --------------------------------------------> ANDERSON by AJRPG is a kind of escaperoom adventure with a story. Anderson begins with a somewhat confused story, which is presented to us cinematically as a cutscene. At the end of this introductory story we find ourselves in a kind of bunker or prison. The first thing we have to do is break out of it. Here we also meet the helpful K.I. ANDERSON, eponym of the game and the large refrigerator in the bunker. With the help of the A.I. we escape relatively easily from the first room and don't go normally through an opened door into the supposed freedom, but teleport through a strange portal. Is this trick supposed to conceal the long loading times that Anderson has to struggle with considerably? Or did I miss a story part? Almost all doors in the game only work as a kind of portal. Well, once we're out of the bunker, we're standing on a fenced-in area on a coast. Complete with a lighthouse, an apartment building, two laboratory buildings and a small grove with a creepy statue. Here we can define each building as an individual escape room, because once we're in, we can't get out until we've solved all the puzzles in the room. After we have freed her, the A.I. Anderson constantly flies around us as an accompanying monitor drone and repeatedly through our heads. If we teleport through a portal door back into the dark rainy night, Anderson also likes to glide through the floor flying in circles until we have moved a few meters further. The story in Anderon is confused and told in documents and tapes, etc., that we find in each building. In the process, we can look around the grounds very slowly in free motion, or beam around via teleportation. The graphics in Anderson are wonderfully done, everything looks very realistic. The objects in the game all have a physical body, so we don't slide through walls, tables or other objects with our hands. I think that's great and should be mandatory in VR games. However, the performance of the game is still terrible. It took me three tries to even get Anderson to run properly. The first time, the walls of the bunker were transparent, and the second time, the entire PC crashed. But when Anderson runs, it's fun and looks really good, even if it's way too dark, in my opinion it could use some more light. Worse and unfortunately a gamebraker is the control of the tablet you find later. It is impossible to operate, at least with the index controllers, responding only sporadically to input commands. Although the game wonderfully supports the index controllers. This problem unfortunately made me cancel the game. I'm only missing two achievements, I think I'm close to the end. And secondly, unfortunately, giving a thumbs down until this problem is solved. Due to control problems at the end (with Knuckles) currently not recommended, unfortunately. 👀Everything from the Dark Coast on my curator page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

 Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
The game is a puzzle kinda escape the room game with a few rooms, and a few things to do in each room. Voice acting is pretty good, puzzles are satisfactory and the story is intriguing. But is pretty buggy, i had to uninstall and reinstall to get the initial computer to "power on" i thought i had to power the monitor but it was a glitch. This is probably my main issue, as i dont know if im supposed to be able to do something or is the game bugged? i felt this a few times during my playthrough, and in a puzzle game, it kinda ruins it. Performance was pretty bad, 60fps on low with a 1080 and a 3600, and it still had dips. Graphics arent bad, but they are pretty basic, and i had to go to LOW quality settings where the textures where pretty ugly looking. Also, the overall environment i felt was way too dark like you cant see your hands dark. You can grabpull items, you point at something, and it comes to your hand, but this causes anything in the way to get knocked off, i had to restart once because a mission item was knocked off and couldnt find it anymore. It lacks polish in a sense of guiding you where to go next, and if you miss the audio you might have to wonder aimlessly until you find your next objective. I understand its an early access game, and it would normally get a positive recommendation because while it lacks polish, and is glitchy and has badish performance, its totally playable (finished it in ~1hr), and i did enjoy the puzzles and story and voice, it totally has potential. But it has not had an updated in over 6 months, so it might be abandoned?, but if its not, currently its too short and too glitchy to recommend.
After fiddling around with making controller bindings for WMR I was finally able to play the game, so lets (me) talk about it. Also for WMR users as of right now theres no official support for it but you can still play it, I've uploaded my configuration to the community bindings (albeit lazy config on my part but I think it mostly works fine) VR setup: Samsung HMD Odyssey + (WMR) Firstly for an early access game I am genuinely surprised on how playable it is despite many things being rough and unpolished (more on that in a bit). At first bat when you launch it you're dropped into this sort of tutorial area with some story thing at the end, very straight-forward (sitting or standing, how to grab/select etc) then you go to the main game after. Right now I don't know much about the plot so I'm not gonna comment on that. The atmosphere here is pretty dark, both visually and storywise (I think). Music and ambience suit each other nicely, in other words you feel completely immersed which is nice. From the starting section when the lights flicker on when you get closer, it gives you some very cool vibes, almost reminding me of a past click-and-point adventure game (maybe a different genre) but I cant remember which. Also in general the island has this near Myst sorta feel to it, that being a small island, buildings that serve as a powerplant or house, which contain puzzles and all. Adding to that the puzzles/challenges feel pretty challenging and will make you think (totally didn't spend 30 minutes on one lol). Now with this game being early access its gonna have its flaws, I'll list what I experienced or thought was weird in dot form: - Can grab objects from a distance without the indicator showing up - Game lags quite a bit, but I've read optimisation is heavily being worked on so I wouldn't worry about it - Some world objects don't seem to have the same visual consistency/fidelity but this could be just placeholder objects etc - Hand doesn't seem to grab onto handles/levers - Smooth locomotion is a tad janky - Hitboxes/collisions are way too large/oversized for some objects - Not much interaction despite objects such as cabinets and drawers placed everywhere (last two might be a little nitpicky but I thought I may as well just point those out) Overall I'm pretty impressed with this game, again despite (x3 lol) it being rough and early access it is very playable, not once did I ever feel like force quitting the game or ripping off my headset even due to the amount of bugs. I'm going to play some more soon and to add to that I really can't wait to see what the future updates are gonna bring us, so all the best to the devs! gameplay vid: https://youtu.be/_0KUAgZZsBY (also please add official WMR support soon pls)
Anderson is a pretty good VR puzzle game. I had a lot of fun with this game, however, it is not without its faults. The graphics and Sound design are pretty good. Voice acting wasn't professional grade, but it seems like they tried. The puzzles are fun, but not very hard. Not being hard is fine by me. Only got stuck a couple times, but even then it wasn't for a frustratingly long time. The puzzles take place in several areas each being like a mini escape room. The story wasn't too deep, but I liked it. It clicked with me (I don't want to give anything away), Really, the only problem were the bugs. None of the bugs I ran into were game-breaking, however, one towards the end held me up for awhile. On that note, the loading screens, when one transitions between areas, are very shaky, which could cause problems for some, I imagine. Once loaded into the area, however, the performance seemed solid.
ANDERSON is a paid story-driven VR game inspired by classic point & click adventures. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Has short in-game tutorial at the start. Hard enough puzzles. Has 6 steam achievements. CONS: Does not work with Index controllers. If you like Escape the Room type games, maybe give this a buy. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. ViVE VR curator group
ANDERSON isn't the most original of games, but from what I've played, it's very well executed, especially so for an early access game. I've seen some gripes about performance in previous reviews, but it runs just as I require on my 8700k, 1070 Ti, 32GB of RAM and original VIVE. It's a little dark in some spots, but otherwise the textures and modelling is really good. I obviously haven't played much, but the tutorials are good and enjoyable to work through. However, the tutorial kind of drops you right in, and while tutorials that hold your hand are super annoying, I do feel it could be slightly more explanatory. There are also some issues with collision, but nothing game breaking. The sound is also pretty good, especially with the voice acting. I would recommend this game to other people.
Really solid VR experience. Everything feels right and more than anything the vibe in the game is coming together very well. You can tell the developers care more than just having one go from point A to point B. They have added a lot of detail to each environment to give it a very particular mood.
