Pros: Good comedy, interesting story, good characters, decent gameplay. Cons: Gameplay CAN be repetitive at times, story leans too much on knowledge of prior release, REALLY should have mouse input. A solid, if slightly flawed, first RPG for the developer. While the gameplay is solid and easy to pick up and play, the interface would really work better in every way if mouse functionality worked. The plot leans heavily on events of the developer's previous game, Max's Big Bust, in a way that can cause confusion to any who haven't played that game. These flaws do not distract problematically from the game's interesting plot, great humor(which continues and enhances the previous game's approach to hanging lampshades on anime and visual novel tropes), and fun characters - you know you've done well in crafting your "rich ♥♥♥♥♥" character when it makes me want to punch said character through my own monitor. Overall worth your money, but if you haven't already make sure to first buy and play through the developer's previous release -Max's Big Bust: A Captain Nekorai Tale- to prevent yourself from getting confused early on.
It’s like an indie version of Persona, I’m really enjoying it so far. The characters are funny and there’s a lot to do. It took me a little minute to get used to the controls but I’m glad I stuck with it, this game is great.
Lached up games never cease to amaze me, If you like funny story with cute characters, Alluna & Brie is the game for you. The characters are well thought of and have presence of their own. The gameplay seems very good and if you like turn based battle system like final fantasy, phantasy star, then you are in for a treat. The story is a sequel to previous game Max's Big Bust. There are some references to it in the beginning but the game is still enjoyable even if you haven't played the prequel. Pros i) Good story and characters ii) A lot of different choices to make experience different for each run. iii)Engaging and solid turn based battle system Cons i)There is no support for mouse. Suggestion: Although the battle system is very much playable, there should be a combo system like we could combine skills to perform a big spell. This way there would a lot of things to be discovered in the battle other than just leveling up and unlocking skills. Overall, a very good game for RPG lovers.
Overall Score: 8.6 / 10 Quality: 9/10 High quality; minor issues. It is very clear that the developer put a lot of thought into creating this game! Performance: 8/10 I had some minor issues in the startup menu when clicking with mouse causing the game to crash, but this was solved by instead using the arrow keys. Utility: 7/10 all the options you would expect for this style of game, at first I struggled with the movement inside the 'Frakk' but after some playing around it became simple to navigate all aspects of the menu. Sometimes when selecting battle skills i would confuse myself due to the colour of the selected skills (Dark Blue) causing me in haste of battle to not deliver Alluna with a cheese sandwich (dammit!). Controls: 9/10 intuitive and simple Gameplay: 8/10 This is my first visual novel on steam but certainly a breath of fresh air to the format with all of the Australian touches added to it. The battles were extremely enthralling, and all of the different stores and venues you can visit are filled with interesting characters and quips. Challenge: 10/10 Alluna and Brie is not meant to be on levels of difficulty rivaling games such as 'Darkest Dungeon' the core of its gameplay is around the visual novel aspects and the growing of the varied relationships you'll encounter. Content: 9/10 At least ~50 hours to explore most avenues of dialogue, I can certainly see the appeal of more playthroughs as time goes on (is there the possibility of DLC?) Diversity: 7/10 Fight formula is largely the same but the diversity in both enemies and characters made each battle feel fresh, and rewarding. Dialogue was always captivating, and certainly kept you on your toes! Anything could happen at any moment. Immersion: 9/10 Could easily lose days in this game characters were fun and enjoyable to interact with. Design 9/10 What could have been a dry addition to the visual novel genre is made exciting and fresh with the addition of the Australian personality and JRPG elements. Visuals: 10/10 Loved the design of all of the characters, enemies and buildings! All super cute! Sound: 10/10 Great sound effects, music was catchy and fun. Tested with: 1080p at 60 Hz single monitor OS: Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit AMD Ryzen 7 1700; 8 GB DDR4 GTX 1060 (6GB GDDR5X); 960 EVO Corsair K95 Platinum
A fun, zany experience that I would expect from Lached Up Games. For their first attempt at an RPG, I'm enjoying the game greatly.
Bought the game for cute magical girls, stayed for JayBubs.
This game is simply a great deal of fun. It has a wonderful sense of humor and is certainly a must play if you played the previous game in the series. The overall structure of the game is an rpg/life sim in the vein of a persona game. Clear the dungeon, level your personality stats, hang out with your friends. Loved every minute I've spent with the game and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Even though the kickstarter didn't went as expected, Lached Up Games managed to make Alluna & Brie a reality, and that's one pretty good RPG/VN. The art is of the same level than the previous game, Max big bust, which is pretty good, the story and writing is funny and quite entertaining. The mix of old characters and new one is pretty good. The RPG part is fun and makes for a refreshing change in the VN universe. There are still a few downs though : - each chapter is an in-game month long, which is by far too much, halving that would have made it more balanced (there is plenty of content and almost everything is available at the start which is a bit overwhelming, but by the half of the 3rd chapter, I saw everything that wasn't behind a timer wall and spent most of Brie's time sleeping) - only the team members participating in a battle gains XP, so it's almost impossible to change members once you've chosen your "favorite team" I had a very good time during the 35h I played Alluna and Brie, and can't wait to see what comes next :)
Here's a game you don't see everyday; Alluna and Brie is a game that combines the classic interpretation of what Visual Novels are supposed to be with RPG elements in a strange but enticing interlocking of genres. To begin, this game is clearly very packed, with a whole host of content placed throughout, feeling as though many hours in you've hardly scratched the surface. Initially navigating the game takes a bit of learning, with your mouse not functioning as it does for most games, but this is quickly nullified by the actual gameplay itself. Secondly, the character interaction is lighthearted and fun, if you are looking for that sort of a game, this is the title for you. I have to say, it was a nice change of pace compared to a lot of other very heavy Visual Novels. I am working through this title over time, but I can tell already it's going to be a unique and engaging experience in the always expanding world of VNs. Definitely give this title a go if you enjoy games like this.
Dear Dev: Please get an UI designer! This is about the first game I played since the late 80s which does not - repeat - NOT support a mouse. Now there are all those neat boxes which invite the user to klick - after which strange things happen, depending on which window is open behind the game... otherwise: Have not progressed much until now, the UI takes the fun out of the game.
