Alan Wake is a solid 6.5/10 for me. The biggest strength is definitely the narrative. The story is interesting, the worldbuilding is well done, and there is a lot of mystery and background lore that kept me invested until the end. The characters are also pretty good, with some memorable ones, and there are quite a few really cool gameplay moments that make the journey worthwhile. The gameplay itself is enjoyable, especially when the game starts combining light, weapons and environmental elements in more creative ways. However, the combat can become frustrating when the game throws way too many enemies at you. Some encounters feel more tedious than challenging, especially when enemies keep coming from every direction. The driving sections are also not particularly good. The controls feel awkward and these sections never really add much to the experience. On top of that, the game definitely shows its age in several areas, from the animations and visuals to some of its gameplay systems and level design. Still, the atmosphere, narrative and worldbuilding carry the game pretty well. It is far from perfect, but there is something genuinely interesting about Remedy's universe and the story they are setting up here. If it was for story alone I would have given it a higher score, but some parts are just extremely tedious and frustrating, really showing that it is a early 2010's videogame. I'm definitely anxious to play Alan Wake 2 and see where this story goes next. It's suitable for one time play. The Chapter III length is too long to feel enjoyable. But the story is really interesting and unique, so definitely recommended to try.
