I have been looking forward to buying this game literally since release. However I always put it down on my list because it looked so basic. I finally bought it today and... I was right to put it further down on my list. The reason I most commonly hear about why people recommended it is that it's a callback to the rts games of old, that's why I picked it up. The issue? That's an insult to the rts games of old. I remember playing Age of Empire, Impossible Creatures, Age of Mythology, the OG Dawn of War games, Supreme Commander, and Total Annihilation Kingdoms to name a few, I loved those games but the core detail that all of those games did amazingly but this game fumbles the bag on that makes the entire experience so different is Resource gain/management. Literally the bread and butter of an RTS. I'm not going to sugar coat it, this game is a grind and it actively tries to make everything harder for you for taking longer, which you can't not do because it's the grindiest rts I've ever played. I've had 8 hour games of Supreme Commander Forged Alliance that felt shorter than the 1.4 hours I've just spent on one mission, 100% because the game doesn't want me to complete it. It is insanely hard to find a game where you can actually say the reason you're having an issue is because the game is going out of its way to make things harder for you. I know that's a funny sentence because obviously difficulty is meant to be difficult but the reality of the situation is what makes games fun and rewarding is the satisfaction you gain for completing difficult challenges and that requires the game to be fair. This is why games that are difficult for no reason are so hated. Games like Dark Souls balance difficulty, trial and reward to make an experience that has lasted decades and will continue to last decades more. But this game? It genuinely seems that the closer I get to completing the mission the more difficult the mission becomes, and it's not like regular progression. The objective is to clear an island of compsognathus and their nests, this is literally the first mission out of the tutorial and the first time they've introduced the knowledge system. So of course naturally I'm going to check that out. It takes FOREVER to do anything in this game because you gain resources at such a slow rate that I was literally wondering if this was ported from one of those terrible mobile rts games where everything takes too long to do, and you need to pay money to speed it up. I finally feel ready to take down a few nests, got 15 spearmen and I'm working on warriors but I guess I can try those another time. Hold Up, Why has the numbe of compies tripled?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT TAKES THREE COMPIES TO KILL A SPEARMAN!?! WHY ARE THE WATCH TOWERS SO TERRIBLE?!?!?!? WHY DOES THE HEALING STRUCTURE DESTROY ITSELF!!! This game works on real world logic, the healing structure destroys itself because it's a fire, the compies multiply because they're in nesting grounds but the game doesn't tell you any of this, it's very much if you try to play it like an RTS (You know... the genre it's in...) It will quickly become impossible to win. Right now there are 170 Compies on the first map and I don't think it's possible for me to complete the first mission, because the devs want the players to suffer. Nobody told me that in order to play this game I had to play like the Zerg, And honestly that's completely counter intuitive. It's a stone aged RTS against dinosaurs for god sake, The logical thing to do is literaly to build up your defences and make sure you're safe before moving out. Why am I being punished for not jumping around like a Caffein addict who is also a squirrel but has mcguyvered a 'frog pack'?!
Cant rush watch towers because they are OP, spam warriors instead. 10/10
Nerviges Game.

great little RTS game turok mixed with age of empires whats not to love.
Very addictive game and can only hope the programmers add more content and maps.
Cute game. Would love to see it expand more. Great music. It needs more content but for the price I won't complain.
