Prices
The United States storefront in every case, so this compares stores and not countries.
Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.

Reviews
What can I say? I bought this game in 1999... I'm 50 years old now in 2026, and it's still being patched and improved. It's divine.
What once felt like a good reflection of my childhood now seems like another commercial overreach. Its aoe2, but with a constant stream of not quite true to aoe2 DLC, its starting to feel like pay-to-keep-playing software.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 17: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

The worst version of aoe2 that has ever existed. it was released entirely to backdoor censorship into the chat and the inability to communicate properly for want of endless ***** has been an issue since launch. The dlc's are garbage, poorly thought out and unnecessary. The people who purchased them play the new civs singularly in hopes of being carried by their civ and are always the first to resign in team games- it is to those sorts of players (whales) the future of this 'version' is catered to without exception. But by far the worst change is the match finder: where once upon a time games were hard locked to region, now you will have to suffer the endless projection of every peoples on the earth who barely speak english but use every few words they do grasp to project and rage quit. Add to this the chinese smurfs and it is little wonder the player base is dwindling. anons will notice that in match finder, if the timer reaches beyond 10 minutes and they attempt to leave queue it will auto assign them a match to someone either too high or too low elo. they are not fooling anyone about the pop numbers. they added voice chat for some reason, default enabled for some reason, but to whom is it catering?
**Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition** is one of the best real-time strategy games ever made. Even after so many years, it remains incredibly fun thanks to its excellent gameplay, constant updates, and active community. Whether you're playing against AI, friends, or online opponents, every match feels different and rewarding. What I enjoy the most is the strategic depth. Every civilization has its own unique strengths, technologies, and units, which means there are countless ways to approach a match. Resource management, base building, military production, and timing your attacks all require careful planning. Winning through a well-executed strategy is extremely satisfying. The Definitive Edition also brings major improvements over the original game. The graphics are much sharper, the animations are smoother, and the soundtrack has been beautifully remastered. In addition, the developers continue to release balance updates, new civilizations, and expansions, keeping the game fresh for both new and veteran players. Another great feature is the amount of content available. There are dozens of civilizations, hundreds of historical campaigns, custom scenarios, ranked multiplayer, and an active modding community. Even after hundreds of hours, there's still something new to learn or experience. If I had to mention a downside, it would be the learning curve. Multiplayer can be difficult for beginners because experienced players know optimized build orders and strategies. It takes time and practice to become competitive, but the process of improving is also one of the game's greatest strengths. Overall, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is a masterpiece of the RTS genre. It combines strategy, history, and replayability better than almost any other game. If you enjoy strategy games, this is an essential title that I highly recommend.
the best
AoE II DE is a great game that I love to play in multiplayer with friends. I was super excited to see the release for mac OS so i could finally play on my laptop. But cross play is not supported?! What is even the purpose of releasing the game like this? If I can't play the game with my friends then I can't play AoE... This needs to be fixed ASAP.
Great game but lack of support for multiplayer Mac to PC and other operating systems is really disappointing.
its ♥♥♥♥♥ now. buy civs to win the game slop
Just like the old days BUT QoL and UI upgrades make it 100% better , don't buy the DLC unless you really want to do the missions and extra races.... Content<price when not on any sales
