About
You are the Viceroy – a leader charged by the Scorched Queen to reclaim the wilderness and discover lost riches for the Smoldering City, civilization's last bastion against the Blightstorm that destroyed the old world. Unlike most survival city builders where your focus is on a single city, in Against the Storm you must build a vast, prosperous network of settlements populated by diverse fantasy races, each with their own specializations and needs.
The wilderness holds many hidden dangers, and never-ending storms will batter your population into submission. If your settlements should fall, then the expedition may end – but not the game. Against the Storm is a roguelite city builder, meaning you will carry forward the resources, upgrades, and experience of your past expeditions each time you set off for a new journey into the wild.

Foxes, beavers, and lizards stand alongside humans and harpies in the struggle to survive. Utilize each group's strengths as you balance their varying needs, from housing and culinary preferences to taste in luxuries and recreation. Will you manufacture raincoats, brew ale, and bake pies to boost morale in the face of the oppressive hostility of the forest, or will you prioritize the needs of one species over another to operate more swiftly for the Scorched Queen?

Experience core city builder gameplay enhanced by roguelite replayability. Build and manage multiple settlements spread out across a large world map, all while collecting valuable meta-progression resources to upgrade the Smoldering City. Feel the pressure of an expectant monarch as the Scorched Queen demands constant progress while recurring Blightstorms pose an inevitable threat to your settlements. Manage your reputation to secure your success at any one settlement before moving on to establish another, constantly seeking new opportunities for growth, taking on unique challenges across multiple biomes, and bracing for the inevitable destruction of everything but the Smoldering City itself. How will you maximize each cycle to not just ensure the best fate for the Smoldering City, but for your career as Viceroy as well?

With hundreds of gameplay modifiers and 6 distinct biomes, every city location presents unique challenges for even the most resourceful Viceroy. Adjust your strategy to changing weather conditions and experiment with rosters of building blueprints and perks that can help your society thrive or bring it to ruin. Will you take on and complete additional objectives and delve deeper into the dangerous forest for potential boons, or will you approach with caution to ensure you operate within your capabilities? All the while, you never know what wares the Trader will bring next year, and the forest holds treasures and resources, but also ancient threats.

Laying the foundations for a new city is one of the most exciting moments in a city-building game. In Against the Storm, you'll have the opportunity to repeatedly experience this by creating new settlements, while still interacting with your network of previously established cities in a growing world.

Really good rogue-lite with a base building mechanic that harkens back to Warcraft's 3 aesthetics.
Wasn't sure if I'd like it but I tried it on a free weekend and I did. As others have said, you can't get too attached to your settlements as you're frequently starting over.
재밌는디??
I greatly enjoyed the game while I was able to play it for free for the weekend. The humans look like pill bugs, I had to zoom in to see who they where. I like the character designs otherwise. I loved the tutorial and explanation of the game items. The complexity of it makes it fun and a bit frustrating. The buildings had such unique designs and bright colors it seemed easy to tell what the buildings were. I was confused a little bit about the curses I was not sure if they affected my whole encampment or if it was just aimed at the characters you send to investigate the events. I was also unsure how long they last. I checked the help guide but did not see an answer to this. The only two things that I can recommend is a way to recall the races back to idle so you can then reorganize them to buildings better suited to there skills. The other is when you are able to pick blueprints if they where aimed more towards your immediate growth instead of something you cannot make/use until later on. This game is brilliant and fun! I would strongly recommend this to others. It is a unforgettable experience!
Игра слишком на любителя, кое-как осилил обучение и хватит, обычные миссии даже пробовать не стал. Единственное только музыка понравилась, что задает неплохую атмосферу темного фэнтези.
Great rogue-lite colony builder
Apparently I have over 150 hours in this so I figure its about time I leave a review. I will say first that my experience is not the technically intended one so take this as you will. I really enjoy the base gameplay, building little towns, exploring and branching out, then starting over with a new town is a lot of fun, but an important part of the gameplay is slowly increasing the difficulty as you go, and high difficulty and stress of it all just isn't something I enjoy. You can always continue to play on lower difficulties, but you won't be able to 100% the game, not even close (I got to maybe 1/3rd the way through). So if you prefer games to be more casual and not stressful than this probably isn't for you unless you will be happy only playing on the lower difficulty levels (and not a completionist like me lol). If you are like me though and still want to play past that point, my own solution was modding. There is a console unlocker mod you can install which essentially lets you modify anything you want in-game, add any map modifier, any status/perk, give yourself items, etc. ie I can happily spend 60 in-game years deforesting the map to a truly ridiculous extent. Absolutely not the intended way to play and not for everyone but I feel I must mention it as its a key part of whats allowed me to continue to enjoy this game! All that said, if you are interested in playing, mods or not, these are some thoughts from my experience, I'll be talking about it in terms of no mods being used as that obviously can considerably change the experience. Gameplay; - I haven't played any other game quite like this so its hard to compare, its a bit rougelike and townbuilder and resource management all at once. Early on it can have a more cozy feel but the stress will definitely be turned up as you progress through the difficulty levels. - Expect it to be repetitive to some extent, there are a lot of changing variables like biome, villager types with different needs and specialties, which buildings you unlock, perks you get, etc. But the base town-building and end goal is the same every time. And of course in rougelike fashion you can upgrade your character to have additional permanent bonuses and unlocks as you progress. - As there is an element of luck to which buildings, perks, resources, etc that you get, especially on later difficulties there is a lot of 'work with what you got', and its probably not going to be ideal, there is a lot of trying to juggle specific needs, finishing timed events that need specific items before they run out, etc. You'll need to micro-manage to some extent depending on the difficulty level, and the game will absolutely punish you for forgetting to handle something (obviously is way more chilled out on low difficulties though). - Not all of the variables are completely randomized, particularly which biome each town is set in is chosen by you, as well as 1-2 of the villager species you start the town with. The overworld map also has map modifiers available in some areas that you can choose to use (or avoid). Its not fully customizable, but you have some control and ability to avoid things you dislike when starting a town. Vibes; - Immaculate, as long as you like rain. - Jokes aside, this game is obviously intended to have a dreary tone, and its very consistent throughout. Not just visually either, the various events you encounter, even in the way the difficulty increases, etc, all adds to the worldbuilding and tone. Its never especially extreme or mean imo (and there are some bright spots), but do not go into this expecting a happy/uplifting game. - I like all of the animal people :) The various species, buildings, biomes, etc are all visually distinct and beautiful, it has its own unique style to it that I find really nice to look at. I also like that the species feel unique to this world and not just a copy-paste from popular media (sorry but I'm tired of generic orcs/goblins/elves/etc). DLC; I've played a decent amount on base game before buying any DLC and sometimes they aren't worth it or feel like they should have been part of the base game, so I wanted to talk about it. I will only be talking about the frog DLC, I've not played on the bats yet. For context, the frog DLC adds 1 new species and 2 new biomes as well as some species/map specific perks, orders, etc. Both the new species and maps have their own quirks to them to mix up the gameplay when using them, as the other species and biome options do, but these have an extra level of difficulty to them (I'd say) compared to the base game. The Coastal Grove in particular I love to play on, but it really forces you to change up your normal gameplay. I would suggest playing on the base game first and if you like the randomization aspects and map modifies and want even more options you'll probably like this. They really feel like considerable thought and effort has been put into them to add some unique spins on the gameplay, but still feel like a logical extension of the game. Overall even if the higher difficulties aren't for me, I can still really enjoy this even on the lower difficulties or with mods. A very solid game and its clear the devs have put a lot of thought and care into it, would certainly recommend giving it a try if it sounds up your alley at all!
Good game. Perfected the city builder formula. The first few hours are always the best ones, and now I can play the first few hours forever.
Truly such an addicting game. Put many more hours into this when it was on Game Pass, but had to buy it here once it left. Having a blast working my way back through the campaign
