Tags: Tycoon&Simulator&Sim&City Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Its a cool and quirky little game but you are probably better off playing something like Kingsway. http://store.steampowered.com/app/588950/Kingsway/ Review: Game is slow paced and relaxing. Leaving a dungeon using the portal can leave me stuck unable to re-enter it and having to restart from scratch, which in the case of invasions just makes the event disappear and registered as a loss. Invasions have to be turned in at the castle's jester and not at regular city quest givers. The tutorial does not tell you but the graveyard is usually accessed on the Castle screen. The tutorial is lengthy, heavily scripted, cannot be skipped and can be failed which can create a host of problems. The whole game is mouse only with an overland map to select hubs to visit, hubs can be exited by clicking on the roadsigns. Dungeons are a series of connected rooms that you navigate by clicking on screen arrows, a handy diagram is there to show you which forks exist in the road. Objectives are at the top right so you can keep track of what you need done before you can take the portal out. University can teach permanent skills for gold. Great variety of classes. Loot levels up quite high, increasing the base attribute of loot that rarity further modifies. Loot system similar to early Diablo games. The use of fast forward, and management of human ressources and everybody's sechdule becomes micromanagement intensive. Some of the dialogue. Especially for random events when dungeoncrawling and when picking autoquests are obviously being randomly generated and can read to truly bizzare results, often in a bugged out, jarring kind of way. Leveling your relationship with kingdoms seems like a pointless grind that feels a gauge for no apparent benefit. The whole monarch/ruler character seems underdevelopped. Note: Seems like the game is balanced for you to dump in your main classes attribute and then take some ranks of +% to stat as a level up upgrade before picking up active abilities
Too much micro managing ... dont buy it.
EDIT. well this is embarrassing. Decided to give the game one more chance and my adventurers are suddenly back? What sorcery is this?? My Negative review will still stand, though. I can't recommend it because of the grindy aspect. If combat was actually exciting, for a turn-based one, I would change my opinion. But as it is, no matter what kind of class/race/weapon you pick the outcome is either; you hit hard or hit soft. Every combat encounter feels the same. The Enemy have the same classes as you, but they can't buff their own so their skills are limited. I liked this game. I wanted to keep enjoying it, despite it being grindy and sometimes tedious. It has charm and everything on the trailer is what I wanted in a game. But now, 4 years later after I had bought it; a bug that made all my adventurers disappear from the Adventurers Tab. I went to click the Bug report button on the main menu, only to get a browser window load a 404 error on me. I went to the Steam discussions and the bug report section to explain this bug, with added images, and lo and behold; this same bug was reported in 2016. No posts from the developers or anyone with the knowledge to help. Don't buy this game.
A true adventurer manager would have the adventurers do their adventuring without direct interference, but here you must actually do the dungeon crawling yourself. Fail.
Game was fun during early access but some frustrating changes brought the game down. Game had potential too.
Terrible!
Follow our Curator Group for more reviews
Adventurer Manager has a good core idea, but the execution is mediocre. The gameplay feels almost like it should be an idle game, but instead is a dungeon crawler. This stems from the game's biggest flaw, it plays too much like a standard dungeon crawler. You are supposed to be managing these adventurers, but you play the actual missions, ruining that feeling. It would have made more sense for you to have no control over the adventurers once they start their quest. The game also begins to drag on pretty early in the game, and it gets more and more boring the farther you go. It could have been a solid game, but it lacks a hook to keep you playing. 3/10
Visit our website for more in-depth reviews and recommendations
Adventure Manager is a resource management RPG in which you manage teams of adventurers as you attempt to unite a kingdom against an evil sorcerer. The game features simple pixelated art and music which is fairly uninspired. This would be pretty easy to forgive if the gameplay was good, but I’m afraid it isn’t. There is dungeon crawling - both a manual and automated variety, neither of which is particularly gratifying, and also another sort of “menu gameplay” where you’re managing your adventurers, upgrades to your castle, etc… There are tons of little features and intricacies in this game - but I’m afraid that without a more fun way to access them and receive feedback, the game just falls flat. The controls and UI are awful in this regard - things are hard to find and unwieldy to access, and I believe that with an overhaul to how the game is presented it would be a lot better. Conceptually, I like the premise of this game - let’s cut out the dungeon crawling and make a sort of meta-game about adventuring. But there still needs to be gameplay and it still needs to be fun and not tedious. On an opposite sort of extreme - Cookie Clicker is a more fun game than this (despite the obviously higher promise of this game). It is interesting to me how some of the concepts in this game are now seen in Riot’s Teamfight Tactics (party bonuses for composition, etc…). Full disclosure - I only played the game for a little over 2 hours, and just couldn’t get into it enough to justify continuing with it. For those who do get into it, I’m sure you’d get more out of it, but I still can’t recommend it. Recommend?: No Rating/10: 3 Value @ $5 (estimate)? 2 hours/dollar (good) Hours played for review: 2
I had high hopes for this game but to be honest it's kind of boring and slow paced.
