About

What must a chef entrusted with starting a new restaurant in London do? That's right, prepare a menu and come up with a name for the place. Except you've almost missed the deadline. Being out of ideas, you felt super-lucky to see an email offering to solve your exact problem. You clicked on the attached link, and then… Welcome to Wonderland's one and only mobile cafe. A long journey awaits you in the unpleasant company of the smug Cat. Fingers crossed, you'll find a way back home. But firstly, you have to feed the locals. Yet they are eccentric, capricious in their tastes, and tend to interfere in your cooking.

This is yet another case where I wish Steam had a neutral recommendation. I want to love this game, but it's held back enough that I can't recommend it unless you're like me and got it cheap in a bundle. In concept, it's really cool. Similar to games like Cultist Simulator, you're stacking cards with various uses and trying to manage them on the board while enemies can do special effects to those cards and mess things up for you. There are special stages with other ways to play. You can pause and take a breather from the chaos and try to organize your thoughts. The design generally looks good. Soundtrack is pretty solid. However, pausing makes it far too easy (but also somehow doesn't affect putting things away at the end of the day...why is there a timer to put stuff in the fridge in the first place?). There are a couple items I've already seen where I can't tell the difference between a processed and raw food (e.g. asparagus) at a glance. Some of the recipes are unintuitive, such as taking chopped onion to a shredder to dice it because "onion rings", which look diced (or like garlic cloves) and not like rings, requires the knife. You can't lock cards in place for all runs, so you're constantly re-organizing as placement is forgotten or bumped around. Basic things like how a fridge works and whether things keep in your cupboard are not explained and other important things, like the fact you can use ANY oil when frying, are explained in a pause menu tooltip you could end up ignoring by accident. Gameplay does not feel balanced with it being too hard if you play as intended and too easy if you use pausing. You often have to gamble on packs to hope you get the right stuff, which can be annoying at best and stressful and game losing at worst. I don't know. I really wanted to like it, and most of the experience so far was enjoyable, but I got to the 7th(?) level and realized that everything I stocked up and threw in the cupboard was gone and I just didn't want to play anymore. Maybe I go back to it in the future, but honestly? I have so many games I could play instead. Pretty bummed because I see the potential in this game but instead it just frustrates me in a bad way. I play a lot of games that kick my ass (including one that lost me 8 hours of progress) but I enjoy being bad at them. This game just isn't that. It feels half-baked and needs more time in the oven...and I have a feeling it's already plated and served and this is what we get. All the updates are about sales now.
Cultist Simulator type of game, but for cooking. Way more intuitive and fun, at least for me. And well, there's a rude cat, what more do you need? One minus - no achievements. Another - pausing seems to have no drawbacks.
we need cloud save, Ach, thx.
The game is very fun, and the strategy sucked me in right away. A few minor gripes: I spend a lot of time just cycling out sauces trying to get cooking oil. As others have pointed out, some tutorial steps are missing (like selling cards to the cat if you run out of money, or the nuances of cabinets vs. refrigerators). Please add Cloud Save and Steam Achievements. Other aspects of the game seem very well done.
