Gameplay: 8/10

Graphics & Sound: 10/10

Narration: 8/10
✔️ Beautiful drawn graphics with a smart mix between 2D and 3D and minimalist animation. ✔️ Cool music! ✔️ Fun and diverse characters, with unique designs. ✔️ Interesting and varied while not overly complex mini games, with fun interaction modes and somewhat of a big importance given to sound and music. 💭 I got stuck at some point because I didn't manage to understand how to progress in the story. It was dumb of me, but the game didn't nudge me in the right direction either. Had to look for a playthrough. 💭 There isn't a whole lot of depth in the narration - it's fun and entertaining, but mostly cool vibes than things to ponder. ❌A few minor glitches, nothing huge, but had to reload the game a pair of times to get unstuck. Cool game to pour a few hours into, a short put complete and entertaining experience. I recommend it to anyone :)
30 Bird’s colorful plumage deservedly takes front and center, but the gameplay can feel just a little bit feather-light. Biggest positives: + A very loose adaptation of ‘The Conference of the Birds.’ The source material gives the game a robust world and well-developed mythology + The glittering, kaleidoscopic color palette is very visually dynamic – much like the game’s namesake Other notes: - Some puzzles are so impenetrably alien in design that it is difficult to grasp them at all ~ Interactions are never a hassle, but they never feel particularly ‘smooth’ either Full review: https://toothbrush.blog/review/30-birds/
I only just started this one so I'll update my review as I progress through the game, but I wanted to give my first impressions. The art looks incredible. It's so beautiful and colourful and the concept of a city on floating lanterns is very creative. Its like nothing else I've seen before. On the other hand I found myself very disappointed with the music and sound design. It's forgettable at best and ear-splitting at worst (at the beginning where we get to the plaza where everyone is there waiting for the goddess to wake up was so loud and jarring it literally made me squirm, I had to lower the volume just to get through it-i thought it was actually a mistake in the game it aounded so terrible). It's really disappointing to see that sound and especially music was not even really thought of, in a game where music is kind of an important theme. I had hoped for some pretty incredible music-i already know what a busy plaza sounds like, show me what a magical lantern city in the sky sounds like. Hopefully the game will improve in this aspect. If it does I'll come back and update my review. For now I still like it and would recommend it. Edit: after finishing the game I stand by what I said above-this game is a mixed bag, and I wish I could give it a sideways thumb. There's a lot to love about it but also a lot that falls flat. The writing is sometimes cringe and annoying and I found myself impatiently trying to skip past a lot of the dialog. Other times I found it quite charming (particularly the part about the bird cult and tattoo shop had me dying of laughter, and was definitely one of my favorite parts dialog-wise) (Spoilers here)One strange choice they made was at the end of the game you are offered a false moral decision- either to release the scientist to Death or lie to Death to save the scientist. This totally came out of nowhere and felt disingenuous because we have no reason to want to protect the scientist. At no point in the game did he do or say anything that made him seem even morally ambiguous or grey or possibly misunderstood. He was just evil and caused problems for everyone, and if I saved him he would surely continue to be a problem. Why even offer us that random choice? It added nothing to the game. Overall I can only mildly recommend this game because it's not bad enough to not recommend. The art style i think is what saved it in my mind, which sucks because I really really wanted to love this game.
Me encanta.
