This is honestly one of my favourite games of all time. I played it when it came out in the 90s and I don't remember ever finishing it, certainly not without cheating. I am blown away by the beauty of the aesthetic and maturity of the story, particularly compared to the rest of the franchise. A stunning, timeless game. I defy the reader to name me a better game by Activision. I'm begging someone, anyone, please upscale this, but when you do, keep the original video sequences the same. <3
Kann man das spiel auf Deutsch einstellen??
Incredible game. Truly imaginative and mystical. A gem of (and perhaps the best of) 90's puzzle games.
I’m giving this game a positive review, but only just. I would almost give this game a negative review, and here is why: First of all is the image quality of this game. It is bad, real bad. Maybe it is because of image compression or something. The 640x480 screen resolution does not explain how bad the image quality is. I am aware that this game is old, but Zork Nemesis is from 1996, that is 3 years after the release of Myst, and Myst had much better image quality. If I compare this game to another game from 1996, let it be Lighthouse: The Dark Being, then the difference is also enormous. Lighthouse: The Dark Being also had much better image quality. What bothered me even more than the image quality is the sound quality, which is also horrible. In many of the cutscenes I was unable to determine what the actors were saying and there are no subtitles in this DOS version of Zork Nemesis. This made it difficult for me to follow the story. There was one puzzle in the game which involved six talking heads. Of all six talking heads I could not hear what they were saying. All of them, all six, no matter how hard I tried, I could not decipher what they were saying. I could not solve this puzzle on my own. Third thing that bothered me was that this game is hard to beat without a walkthrough, for several different reasons. The difficulty level of the puzzles ranges from very easy to very hard. It is for the hard puzzles that I needed to consult a walkthrough. Also, there was a floor in the game that had a trapdoor, but the trapdoor was barely visible because the image was too dark. And there were also several moments in the game where there were objects in the scene that could be interacted with, but the mouse pointer did not indicate these objects as interactable, which should be a bug. Besides these negatives the game has mostly good sides. The game has some good puzzles with some eureka moments. The exploration of the different worlds is worthwile. The story is well done and some of the acting in the cutscenes was very good. It is clear that they hired professional actors to do the acting. Besides the negatives I still had some fun playing this game and for that reason I give it a thumbs up.
This game brings back so many childhood memories. As a child (with Dutch as first language) I never really understood story, but now I do. The game it self is really old, and runs in a MS DOS box. The cut scenes are poor quality for today's standard, but looking at it from a perspective from the time the game came out it is very well done. If you never played any Zork games in the past, and you are thinking about getting this game, keep in mind it is a game from 1996. If you are already familiar to zork games, go grab a copy. The sound does crack up a bit from time to time, and it restore itself after awhile, but that could probably be due to newer sound hardware. Lastly, since the game is about solving puzzles, and has no replay ability, once you complete the game. Even after 20 years and several play through's the game still gets a 10/10 from me.
Un de mes jeux favoris ! l'ambiance, la musique, l'histoire, les choses marrants et les choses glauques... attention ! le jeu sorti en 1996 n'admet pour résolution que du 800x600 and the mouse is moving too quickly :-S UN JEU UNIQUE. One of my favorite : the atmosphere, the music, the story, the funny and the creepy things... warning! the game released in 1996 only supports 800x600 resolution and the mouse is moving too quickly :-S A UNIQUE GAME.
