Very simple managment game. It is easy to learn and relaxing to play. There is no challenge in this game so if you want more difficulty then you need play something else. There is some better games like this but this is still not bad and it is cheap. Music and graphics is simple and ok.
I could spend so much time, the game has a nice ambience and is very accessible.
This is a fun game, but it's old and simple. (How old? It lists Windows XP as the minimum spec.) This is not a game about constant micromanagement, but rather, is a game dedicated mostly to having fun expanding. Depending on your desires, this could be a good thing or a bad thing. As long as you halfway manage your money, this will generally be a very easy experience focused mostly on building out with more and more exhibits. Once you research keeping an animal healthy (which goes much faster than researching the animal itself), you don't have to deal with much illness, which is the main "random event" needing micromanaging. The game itself uses an interesting "alternative currency" where you don't actually deal in money, but rather in what is essentially reputation. This is what justifies every customer need (including the bathrooms) generating "income", as well as each individual animal generating income based on how much exposure it gets. Weirdly, though, visitors apparently grade you on your floral displays, as they will eventually get fed up and leave (apparently via teleportation) if you don't have enough decoration, even if they're walking right between two wide open animal exhibits. Care of the animals is taken care of well by the zookeepers you hire, who generally need no micromanaging, especially if you keep enough of them employed. With your rate of income each day, it's generally better to err on the side of redundant and idle keepers than to have too few, especially since dirty pens breed disease. So overall, this is a fairly relaxing game. It doesn't have the depth of one of the Tycoon games, but for $5, what can you really expect? It's some solid fun for at least a few hours, and especially if you dislike other simulators forcing you to constantly micromanage everything and bombard you with random events, this is a nice, slow breath of fresh air.
A simulator game where you get to build your own zoo. The graphics are outdated and there is no easy way to keep track of your animals health (and they do get ill a lot) but it was good enough to keep me entertained for a few hours.
PROS: * The inclusion of conservation efforts is a nice touch, though it could have been more detailed. CONS: * Seriously outdated and clunky. There’s no reason to buy this game when there are far more detailed and modern zoo management games available. * No option to turn off trees, making it frustrating to find and heal sick animals hiding in bushes. * Crashes occasionally when the zoo grows too big due to the number of visitors.
If I remember correctly, it was just not good.
Since I can't find the original Zoo Tycoon, I was hoping this would scratch the same itch, but it's far from it. It's not intuitive, yet is somehow also incredibly bland. Thankfully I got it on sale and only wasted less than $2 on it.
I'll keep it short: as much as you think it will be tolerable so you can finally play bootleg Zoo Tycoon on Steam, it's not worth it. I paid $1.69 for this and I'm going to refund it. I get it -- I love ZTCC and this looks uncannily similar. That is a deliberate choice in order to get those of us blinded by nostalgia to take a chance. I took the chance. Don't take the chance. The majority of this gameplay is truly just waiting for things to unlock -- and having access to everything in freeplay? That's not fun either. It all feels very... pointless. There are no challenges to overcome, there is no reward for building things, it is truly "Do this. Okay. Now do this," the game. My standards are not high but they do exist. If you want a cute lil management sim to fidget with, literally anything from Kairosoft will be there for you and far more engaging -- they even have their own take on a zoo game in Zoo Park Story. If you want a good zoo game, Planet Zoo is as good as it's gonna get, especially with the amazing turnout from the modding community over the years. If you want an isometric zoo-esque game, Megaquarium is right there. Or Parkasaurus! We have options now, it's 2024! Take that two dollars and treat yourself to essentially anything else... and definitely don't try it if it's not on sale.
