A Caelo Ad Terram.
For centuries the Protectorate have been the stalwart defenders of humanity’s ventures through the Orion Arm, guarding against enemies foreign and domestic of the United Earth Spheres. As humanity’s galactic infrastructure teeters on the brink of collapse over a deficit of the resource “flux,” the Protectorate brings honed tactics and heavy firepower to bear. Field veteran commandos to deep strike enemy positions, or bring the heavy firepower of your mech divisions to break enemy lines.
Grow. Expand. Exterminate.
The Grell are a tide of highly evolved plant-like creatures that spawn sites of raw flux crystals through the galaxy, and humanity’s first contact with alien life. As external powers dive deeper into exploiting flux for faster than light travel, the once passive Grell have begun to flood across worlds, wiping out those who would threaten their biosphere. Expand your blooms by spreading the roots of your biomass across the battlefield, and rip apart your enemies with twisted evolutions from the acidic Harbinger to the rampaging Reaver.
Across a Million Worlds, We March.
The Legion of Truth are a fanatical empire from beyond the reaches of known space, devoted to their Emperor and a pantheon of god-like beings. Their armies crusade across the cosmos, bringing all in their path under the Idals, and purging those unwilling or unable to accept the voice. Drown your enemies with waves of expendable Thralls and Fanatics, and break your enemy under the treads of the titanic Terror Tank, a mobile fortress that can reconfigure with the tide of battle.
For Purpose. For Survival.
The Xol are civilization of autonomous robotic consciousness, brought to the brink of extinction by the dark crusade of the Legion. Though fiercely individualistic, they are united by one imperative: survival. As the tide of annihilation turns against them, the Xol will bring the most advanced robotics technology in the galaxy to bear, wield the accumulated genius of their society, and wipe out all who threaten their future.

I love RTS games, and old school remakes, but I dont like this one much. Why, well: I will try to see past the numerous bugs and glitches, as it is EA after all, but there is plenty of that, some to the point its game breaking such as how the units often dont stop at the position you send a group to, but run around in circles. Weird visually, but also often game breaking because running around like headless chickens means they wont shoot at enemies. So move a group somewhere and maybe 70% of them run around trying to reach a destination thats blocked endlessly, having the enemy eat them alive as they wont defend themselves. But anyway, thats fine, bugs will be handled I suppose. However, the game itself... The main problems is it is not introducing anything substantial new elements, and what it takes from past RTS games are the things I never enjoyed much, while the things I really like they did not include: Negatives - Stupid enemy AI, and they do what all RTS devs who doesnt want to bother solve hard AI problems do to compensate: Flood enemies at you, make the UX itself a obstacle (like lack of tactical zoom so scrolling around like mad or memorizing shortcuts becomes necessary - super outdated and annoying), or refuse to include a tactical pause to overcome the panic mode that compensates for poor AI. - Realtime: yes. Strategic: no. I love RTS games that has that chess element. Here, none of that. its all about rushing tactics and swarming endlessly. Your units are bullets basically. The enemy basically tower defence streaming themselves at u - Story: why did they bother. skip skip skip skip that boring bland dialogue positives: - Well, what other choices do we have? This genre is starved to death. So, uh, good to have an option except remakes of classics I guess, but it does not remotely get close to the quality and polish of the classics like SC and AoE. - Some kind of innovation with something that looks like inspiration from xcom in between games. Like you can interact with some characters and plan your moves on a larger scale. Seems mainly cosmetic though - uh, I dont know, I got thoroughly bored before I could get into the game much further. Particularly fed up with RTS games that zooms so far in that you can see individual straws of grass, like that was ever useful, but refuse to let you zoom out to get a proper tactical overview. Its a scrolling feast. Anyway, not sure this game has any potential. Maybe multiplayer is fun, but then again, just toss a ball to some kids and they have fun, thats the kids making the fun not the ball. I am bored with multiplayer games, was hoping this one had a proper single player experience, but nope. Look at the eyeballs of individual characters on screen while scrolling around in panic. Most likely to be killed by poor UX design that gets in your way and bugs than actual enemies

Great so far, but expect some jank since it's in EA. Only getting better each update, and the devs are working fast, are communicative, and are pretty darn good at the game. It is a breath of fresh air to get an rts with units that feel like they were designed purposefully, with attention to flow, pacing, smoothness, and rhythm. I could talk about the unique mercenary sub-factions, or the perk system, or the meta progression, but putting all that to the side, the units are just fun to control, they have an identity, even if some aren't perfect right now. Pace of the game (in pvp) is slightly higher than sc2 at the moment, but as per the latest update which just came out at the time of this review, plenty of units/researches are having their speed or speed modifiers toned down and I think the pace will generally slow down overall as players get more comfortable with the units. If hearing about a pace faster than sc2 puts you off, then don't worry, it's not a factor in the co-op or campaign at all, which are arguably much larger sections of the game's whole package than the pvp anyways.
promising starcraft 2 vibe
Promising game! Already quite fun, and I am hopeful for this RTS to be eventually better than what we have now!
I just finished the campaign (brutal) and while streaming some people that work for ZS came into the stream and I gave some feedback and they were really receptive on it. Yes the game needs polishing and this n that but so far I've had a wonderful experience playing. ZS has some of everything from every RTS i've played (SC2, SC:BW, WC3, C&C, Tempest Rising, Stormgate etc) and honestly the mechanics + the galactic war really brings a sort of collective front to play. I'm a big helldivers2 player and having that unity really does make the game more enjoyable than sc2 in that coop aspect.
